Nightmares of Reality

I opened my eyes and... there was nothing. It wasn't the same room as yesterday's dream. Everything is black. I'm in some kind of box.

"You useless piece of crap!" A voice shouted from behind... when I turned back there was nothing

"Go fetch some more money!" Another voice older women's from behind. The same thing happened again when I turned around

Alright... if I just walk myself into the corner of the box, there can't be anything behind me... right? I backed myself into a corner and for a while, the voice didn't come, but then...

"Brother... help" Behind me was Liz, but it was when she was younger... a lot younger. She was hiding from something, no she was hiding from someone.

"It's okay... big bro's here" Is she alright? I hope she's not harmed. All the adults just wanted to pretend they're an orphanage to get money from the government. I hated it, I never wanna go back. Never again...

No food from their own pockets. No support. We could only get so much... if we had any money left at the end of the day the adults would take it. I tried to hide it from them one time, but naturally, they found it and beat me half to death...

Suddenly, I hear cries for help and it was the other kids in the opposite corner.

We consider ourselves as all we had. We were family, we're the only ones who wouldn't leave the others to die!

That's what I thought... some of us got adopted and lived happy lives. I was one of those lucky few. My new family was quite wealthy and they wanted an heir so I played that part, but I never got loved. Even so, it was heaven compared to that place

"You piece of crap!"

"Even your parents didn't want you"

These messages kept on echoing and echoing inside the box. Till I broke "Shut UP". I hate all of you. I'd be happy if you die! The only reason I never escaped was that I know Liz couldn't. When she was little, she was really fragile and weak. She wasn't the only one.

There were 4 people in our age. Me, Liz, Noah and Violet. Noah... he had a body even weaker than Liz's.

A few years after I was adopted I went back to find the usually cheerful Liz in black, her face was sad... no... it was empty. I heard there was an outbreak of a dangerous decease. There was a cure, but from the new gathered, the adult couldn't care less about if we died or not.

I need to protect her. No one else would. No one else can... I'm the oldest now. Whatever the cost. She's the only family I have left.

The floor crumbled and started to close in. There was a small space that wasn't falling. It was the corners, but only one can stand and the others will fall. I watched as my family fall off. I can't do anything. What can you do when the distance is too wide. Eventually, it got to us. Only one person can stand.

"Well, sorry not sorry. Survival of the fittest" Liz pushed me off with a small smile on her face. What happened to the sweet Lizzy?

Naturally, I fell from the box and saw the sky, but it's desaturated. Some would say black and white. I can't do anything now... the only thing I can do is to spread out my surface area and that would only slow it down. I'll eventually hit the ground anyways.

The moment I touched the ground, I opened my eyes. I woke up.

It was a dream... Lizzy... no Liz... she's still holding on to me. So this isn't a dream... I've never had a dream in a dream before. I don't think this fact would be different if it was a dream.

"Wow, how did you manage to get Liz to do that" Jess pointed at Liz hugging my arms

"We should all know she moves everywhere in her sleep" I countered by pointing at her legs that were on Ara's lap. That dream was weird...

Mokusei... still a mystery. I didn't think about it last time, but Yours Truly is Liz's username. We talked for a bit to catch up and it seems that Delta and Kai arrived a few months ahead of us. Times of people coming into this world is quite inconsistent.

"We're here" The driver shouted

I woke Liz up and we got off and paid for the ride. My back hurts... sleeping while sitting is really uncomfortable. I'm so hungry. The last time I ate was an eternity ago. A normal healthy functioning human being should eat 3 times a day. I ate once in these 3 days.

I'm surprised that I'm the only one that looks this exhausted. Liz and Jack seem a little hungry. Jess doesn't even look hungry at all.

"I'm starving" I complained

"Shelter first. Food second" Jack said. That makes no sense though. Food is more important. Unless you're a fricking elf! T-That's it. Our races are different. So what we eat should also be different... right?

"Everyone, when you eat what, do you feel"

"Like my stomach is full? I mean I still felt hungry or I felt empty, but I thought that it was just because I didn't eat much and it tasted like crap" Liz still looked really tired and it seems like she's switching back to her normal self

"I was full. I just didn't get that hungry after that" Jack's answer was boring

"I was never hungry. I mean I complained about it, but I didn't really feel, just felt like I should've" Jess's one just makes me feel like splitting food money on her is a waste of my food. Why did I pick a human?

I wrote in my bio that I was fallen angel that was cursed to live in a human's body until I learn how much someone's life is worth. It's so cheesy... but I was roleplaying. It's a bio so it doesn't really matter, but wish it does...

We walked around the town, everything seems to be like the last town until we got to the main road. It was selling weird fruits and mythical creature's meat everywhere. There were also tons of book stores and clothing shops. Also, advertisements for ISTA are everywhere. It's been 2 days and the exam will be held tomorrow.

I picked up one of the posters from ISTA and apparently it's length is 3 days to a week. Certainly, a long time to test, but who am I to judge? It starts at noon. So if we leave here by 11 tomorrow everything should be fine. Although, this is just my guess. I can't read the language at all. Numbers seem to be normal though. I'm just guessing for now.

"Yo! Can we tag along?" Kai shouted with Delta, trying to catch up to us

"Sure!" Jess answered for all of us and gaze to Liz. For a whole second, they both had this sinister look to them as if they were planning something with their gazes.

"No problem, half of us has voted, but we're sharing our money" Jack insisted

"That's alright we have 2 whole gold coins left altogether. We'll be fine" Did they just say that 2 gold coins are a lot?

"How much is the average meal here?" I asked

"6 silver's the cheapest. I'm an Aasimar so I thrive from the happiness of others and demi-humans like Kai can stand hunger for about 3 days until he needs to eat again" Delta stated

All the signs are in a weird language. Thankfully there are craved pictures on the signs too. We found one that looked like a bed and went in. It was as expected an in. 1 gold coin each for a night. That's out ragest. Time to do the no game no life style bargain.

"In Domum it's 1 gold for 12 nights!" I yelled

"4 nights that's the most I can do," The front desk dude said

"8 and that's final" I got him hooked and now we either get 7 or 8 nights

It's afternoon and in a few hours, the night will fall I'd rather rest here for today. I'm so tired and my back is still hurting. A little rest now would be nice.
