CHAPTER 40

Y/N'S POV

I was sitting on a bench away from the teams preparing their canoes but with my gaze fixed on Enid's team. The Black Cats canoe was going to be the deadliest by far because my cousin was taking care of building it personally. It seemed funny to me to see how she had Yoko and Enid under her control when actually the weakest in terms of abilities was her. How would a psychic deal with a vampire and a wolf girl? It was impossible, but power was also a matter of attitude. And as for attitude, Wednesday was plenty.

- Xavier: Hello - he said, sitting down next to me - How is that arm going?

-Y/N: At the moment I haven't dropped it to pieces, so I guess fine - I replied without looking at him - What brings you here?

- Xavier: Well, I could be nice and say that I've come to see you because you haven't stopped by the club for a long time... But I'm going to be honest, I came for Wednesday.

-Y/N: That's new - I rolled my eyes and smiled - Do you plan to make any moves regarding your relationship?

-Xavier: I'm trying, but during our last date we were attacked by a hyde and you had to rescue us - he looked at me and smiled - With the arm like that, I don't see you ready for a second round.

-Y/N: Very funny, I'd rather not have to get involved in your personal issues - I sighed and took my hand to the arm bandages - I have enough with mine already.

- Xavier: Problems in paradise with Enid? - he said passing his arm around my shoulders - Or is this a more serious issue? You can tell me about it, we are arch partners as well as friends.

-Y/N: I wouldn't tell you my problems even if being crazy - I laughed and pushed him away - Shouldn't you be preparing your canoe with your team? The Black Cats are going to beat you up.

- Xavier: Nah, everything is under control. Ajax is still in charge...

-Y/N: Your defeat is confirmed - I smiled - Well. Are you going to approach them yes or no?

- Xavier: Yes, as soon as I see that she is left alone... I want to ask her to come to the dance with me.

-Y/N: What dance?

- Xavier: Why don't you ever find out about anything? You come to classes too - he started laughing - You are always in the clouds, it would help you to pay attention in class to stay updated.

-Y/N: Meh, I get distracted by anything - I shrugged - What is that dance?

-Xavier: A dance with a specific theme, every year they choose a different species - he smiled - And well, otherwise it's a normal dance. You invite someone to go with you, you dance, you drink, the normal thing at such events - I got up from my place determined making the guy look at me confused - Where are you going?

-Y/N: To ask Enid to the dance - I said as if it were nothing - I needed an excuse to ask her on a date and not sound too corny, so this situation suits me perfectly - I smirked before approaching to the canoes.

I walked slowly up to the canoes and waited until Wednesday wasn't looking so I could hide behind one and talk secretly to Enid avoiding her to be scolded. I grabbed her by the waist with one hand and covered her mouth with the other to prevent her from screaming and getting the attention of the other two. She calmed down right away because she probably caught my scent and just let herself go until we were both hidden.

- Enid: What's with all the secrecy? - she smiled.

-Y/N: Sorry, I know you're busy and that it's very important to win the Poe Cup. But I've heard that there's going to be a dance-

- Enid: The Raven! - she said excitedly - Last year's didn't end well, and I ended up going with someone pretty random. But I have a feeling that everything will be different this year - she smiled again.

-Y/N: Do you want us to go together? - I asked her directly - I think it's a good preliminary, a good first date.

- Enid: Wait, wait - she turned and made a few quick movements before looking at me again - I don't believe that you are asking me on a date, and also that we are going to go to the dance together. Are you serious? !! I know you don't like such events and after making you meet my family, I wouldn't like to force you to do something you don't want.

-Y/N: - I shook my head - Enid, I want to go to the dance with you - I said totally serious - A lot of things are happening these days and I have realized my own feelings. I want us to meet and we can talk about it calmly because I want to make things right with you.

-Enid: Wow... - she took a breath and smiled before slowly letting it go - You told me that you had never been in a romantic relationship and that you had no idea what to do. But Addams, you're doing damn well - she let out a chuckle - Thanks for taking our thing seriously.

-Y/N: - I nodded and smiled - We are fated to be together, as horribly cheesy as that sounds - I rolled my eyes - So let's do it properly, I will look forward to the dance. Although if I get overwhelmed, I'll leave early - I warned her.

- Enid: Hey, take it easy - she said confidently - I'll take care of you having a good time and you don't want to leave - she left a small kiss on the corner of my lip - I haven't answered you, but yes. I'd love to go to the dance with you, Kit.

-Y/N: Perfect - I smiled - I guess I should go now and let you guys keep working... - I stood up and looked around - Hey, Wenny! Enid said she's tired and doesn't want to paint the canoe black anymore!

-Enid: Ah, you are such a...! - she growled at me and gave me a shove - Go on get out of here, you're the main reason I've stopped painting - she laughed.

It didn't take long for Wednesday to approach Enid and threaten her with twenty different ways in which she would kill her if they didn't have the canoe ready for the day of the competition. Once I had gotten the appointment with Enid, I was able to focus on working on my kitsune skills. So I went to the forest and just tried to create fire in a more relaxed way, without pressuring myself to create big flames.

As usual, I only managed to create a flame of will-o'-the-wisp. I sat on the floor with my legs crossed, and I remained silent merging with all the sounds of the forest. The birds were singing, some rabbits were moving in the bushes, squirrels were jumping from tree to tree, I could feel and notice everything. When I thought I was connected enough to the place, I took a breath and let it out again slowly, gaining total control over my breathing to keep myself relaxed.

Until that moment, I had always tried to create large flares to cope with my enemy. I mean, I've been trying to create fire using my fury and for war purposes, obviously that wasn't going to work because that wasn't my nature. So with patience, I visualized flames of will-o'-the-wisp around me and concentrated on producing them. When I opened my eyes, I was surprised that I had been able to create about seven flames instead of one.

I couldn't believe it... I had succeeded! I started running around the forest while picking up the dry leaves and throwing them into the air euphorically. All this time I had been doing it wrong because I wanted to create attack fire being my nature to protect. I took advantage of the good run to try to create normal fire, and to my surprise, I was able to produce two flames. One in each hand.

Okay, maybe it was still a pretty useless skill and they were nothing compared to the flares that my mother was capable of producing. But I had to start somewhere, not to mention that until then the most I had been able to create was a little flame the size of my thumb. I was proud of the progress I had made, I had definitely taken the right path when it came to training. I just needed to try to control the electricity, so I seriously started rubbing my hands, and when I separated them...

Absolutely nothing happened.

-Y/N: Maybe that will take me a little more time - I said to myself as I practiced my techniques for creating fire again.
