CHAPTER 4: DAMN HAPPY

The room though sparsely furnished had a charm on its own,the simplicity of the decor lent an airy almost serene ambiance to the space. The sunlight streaming in through the open windows filled the room with a warm golden glow illuminating every nook and cranny,the single beds in each corner of the room were neatly made,their quits prestine and inviting and on each bedside a small potted plant added a touch of natural beauty and tranquility to the place.

Alicia was quick to fall in love with the place,it was simple, neat,airy and spacious. As the girl walked Alicia over to her bed side it was then Alicia also noticed the presence of another girl in the room who was smiling at her and she smiled back in response.

Alicia felt quite happy that her roomies seemed quite nice ,she'd read a lot of books in which students were being bullied by roommates in school and she never wanted that.

Upon dropping her bags beside her bed,the girl turned to face Alicia.

"Hi I'm Tammy Roland and " pointing over to the other girl sitted on her bed. " That's Sophia Lu, It's nice to meet you, what's your name"

"Alicia Lawson" she replied still smiling,she was damn happy that her roomies w're nice,what more could she ask for

"O-okay Alicia so whatsupp,what course would you be studying"

"Theatre arts"

" Ok i'm Mass communication 200 level and Sophia over there is....."

"Medicine,200 level." Sophia chipped in not liking that Tammy was introducing her and not letting her speak to the pretty girl

" It's nice to meet you two" Alicia said

"Ok then Alicia,what do you wanna do first,do you wanna rest first or start arranging you things" Tammy asked

" Uhm,I think I'd start arranging my stuffs" she replied as her eyes zeroed in on the wardrobe and provision cupboards close to her bed

" Ok then,if you need anything,I'll be right there" she assured pointing at her bedside

"O-okay". Alicia then dropped her bag on the bed before she immediately started to offload her clothes and shoes to arrange then in the already cleaned up wardrobe.

Just then Sophia received an urgent call and she was quick to exit the room leaving Alicia and Tammy.

Alicia arranged her things perfectly and neatly,and the shoes that the wardrobe couldn't contain,she put them under her bed. 40 minutes later,she was done.

She immediately fell lazily to the bed looking exhausted as fuck,she closed her eyes for a second before a big smile crept on her lips the moment the realization struck her again,she was in the university now and right now she had the opportunity to experience the outside world without restrictions,she felt free and scared at the same time.

Her eyes were still closed when Tammy emerged from he closet already dressed up holding a bag,she seemed to be going out, Alicia opened her eyes and sat up upon hearing noises.

Tammy after putting on her shoes walked towards her. " Uhmmm..." She began tilting her head,it was obvious she was trying to remember her name

"Alicia" she quickly said aiding Tammy

"Oh yes Alicia,sorry I won't forget next time,ha ha ha" she Chuckled

Alicia smiled and then nodded her head

" Well then I'll be going out now and would be back later,so why don't you rest for a bit, tomorrow's gonna be the start up for lectures"

"Ok" Alicia gently replied " but could you please show me where the kitchen is,I'm quite famished" she added looking around

" Oh " Tammy exclaimed " well,the kitchen which is the utility room isn't here,it's on the next floor,well the authorities had prohibited the use of stoves and cookers in the room ever since the explosion of a cylinder last two years instead,they made a utility room available and ours is upstairs but sadly I don't think you'll be able to use it now

" Huh, why"

"That's because it's still under maintenance from last semester's use but don't worry,it would be available for use by tommorow morning" she assured

Alicia bit her lower lip before nodding her head meekly

"A-re you hungry"

"Yeah,kinda" she smiled akwardly

"Well if you're hungry,why don't you start up with your provisions first and then you could start cooking tomorrow" Tammy advised causing Alicia's head to whip up and look at her

'what provision' she asked in her mind,the provisions here wouldn't even last a month if she were to take a little amount daily,her mum just had to take another huge loan to pay off her seemingly heavy hostel accommodation fee which was Hall 3,the cheapest they could find because staying off campus was far more expensive and risky too. After paying her hostel fees,the few money that was left were used to buy some books, materials and other school stuffs hence the money left wasn't really enough to get her much provisions but then her mom had assured her that before the end of the month she would do something as they couldn't ask Mr Richardson anything more,he'd already payed her huge fees and that was enough.

"Uhm , Alicia" Tammy called out waving her hands in front of her pulling her out of her thoughts. " What are you thinking about"

"Mmm, nothing"

Tammy sighed before glancing at her watch. " well Alicia if you're not in the mood for provisions,the school has many cafeterias" she suggested. " If you wanna go I could direct you to the closest one"

"O-okay"

Tammy then went ahead and carefully described the place for her and in less than a minute, Alicia got it

"Okay got it"

"Are you sure"

"Yes I'm sure"

"Ok then let me have your digits in case you get lost ha ha"

Alicia smiled before she fluently called out her phone number. Tammy then saved after dialing it before she looked up at Alicia

"Ok princess,I'll be off now,see you later bye"

"Bye Tammy" she waved and Tammy almost drooled at her meek gestures

As soon as Tammy left and closed the door, Alicia fell back to the bed as her tummy grumbled.
