Chapter 2

It's been a week and everywhere was peaceful like nothing ever happened, making her doubt if those people were really who they claim to be.

Their lives went on peacefully and Charlotte decided to forget about any of that for it might actually be a prank on her by someone who doesn't like her.

She shrugged off the weird thoughts and adjusted her windbreaker while walking through the park.

"Hey, watch it!." A bald-haired man yelled at her when she accidentally brushed her shoulder with his.

"I'm really sorry, Mister, I didn't see you coming." She smiled sweetly and the angry man glared before walking away.

She smiled in her heart while walking away because she'd nabbed his wallet when they had collided.

Sometimes it's just so much fun to be yourself and do things you love doing.

Just when she thought she was free again another police car pulled up In Front of her and two cops came out staring at her sternly.

"Mrs. Charlotte Ross?" One of them asked, showing his badge and Charly had a cold chill run down her spine., she could feel something wasn't right.

"Y…yes how can I help you?" She managed to say and before she could say duck! She'd been handcuffed and was being dragged toward the backseat of the car.

"You're under arrest for the murder of Mr. Fredrickson. You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford one, the state is gonna provide one for you…... " They explained her rights along the way, and that was when she knew she was in deep sh*t.

"Get your f*cking hands off me!! I don't even know who the f*ck is Fredrick sh*t!" She screamed angrily and kept kicking them only to be thrown into the backseat

"You have the right to remain silent or anything you say would be used against you in the court of law."The cop by her left spoke huskily.

"I'm being f*cking set up!! I didn't kill anyone!" She kept yelling at the station.

Charly was kept in the interrogation room by the cops while she awaits her fate.

Turns out the strange man she encountered at the park had been murdered and was being pinned on her. To make matters worse they found his wallet on her.

She knew there was no explaining herself out of this. A small part of her knew this was linked to the mysterious lady who wanted her to do her dirty work.

Charly glanced at the glass separating her from the cops but she had a nagging feeling that someone was actually watching her beyond the glass.

She gulped down nervously, trying not to break down in fear.

After what felt like forever, the door to the interrogation room pulled open. A young beautiful woman in a black two-piece suit walked in with a few documents and a laptop.

"I didn't kill anyone," Charly spoke out in fear and she nodded.

"I know you didn't and you know what to do to clear your name." She spoke quietly as she kept her things on the desk. Charly's hands were handcuffed too.

The Lady looked at the surveillance camera and made a gesture with her fingers, suddenly the cameras were shut down.

"Who are you? I know you are not one of them." Charly stared at her sternly.

She chuckled softly and sat down.

"You're quite the brain I must say, and I'm kinda wondering what's gonna happen to your mom once she finds out you killed someone." She was straightforward, to begin with, and Charly immediately knew who she was working for.

"Leave my mom out of this! And for the f*cking last time I didn't kill anyone."Charly hissed out In anger.

"Fine, you didn't kill anyone. I can make all this go in seconds and this investigation would be swept under the carpet if you do what you're asked to do." She added and Charly knew she'd reached a dead end and she knew there was no going back now.

"You've 30 seconds to decide if you're spending the rest of your life in prison." She smirked mockingly.

Charly kept staring at the unfamiliar lady quietly thinking about the whole thing and a sigh escaped her lips.

"Fine, I'll do it!" She finally gave in and the lady smiled sweetly at Charly but Charly knew they were fake.

"Very well then." She nodded at the person staring at them through the glass and immediately the door opened and a police officer walked in with the keys to the handcuffs.

Charly heaved a sigh of relief and massaged her ankles which had gone sour.

"So what now?" Charly asked.

"You can go home now, you will be meeting Lord Henrysoon, so prepare yourself mentally. Have a nice day, love." She left immediately and Charly cringed at the idea of meeting Lord Henry.

'That beast!' she cursed inwardly while walking out of the station.

Almost immediately a screeching sound came behind her and she almost dropped dead in the middle of the road.

Charlotte almost had a heart attack as a limited edition Maybach almost crushed her bones. She fell to the ground immediately and the car stopped right before her.

Her eyes had become dizzy from the shock.

She'd yet to recover from the shock when the driver came out angrily.

"Miss, watch where you're going, if you want to die, kindly go over to the bridge and jump. Gosh! I could have killed you!" He spat angrily but Charly didn't care about any of that.

She just needed to get away and she'll be fine.

"What's the hold-up, James?" Finally, the person in the backseat spoke and the driver immediately rushed over to his master's side.

"A lady suddenly jumped In Front of the car." He briefly explained.

"Eh. Compensate her and get me out of here.'' The indifference in his voice clearly shows how he didn't care if she died or lived.

The driver nodded and immediately took out a brown envelope from a small compartment beside the driver's seat.

"Here, take this and go treat yourself." He handed the girl seem lost in her thoughts.

But what she did next came as a complete surprise to him…

Charly's dizziness cleared immediately when she caught sight of the envelope, anyone could tell it was money.

"How much is that? Oh don't worry, let me check it out myself." She took the money with greedy-looking eyes from the driver and immediately smelled the envelope.

She could tell how much was in the envelope just by taking a sniff and could tell this was 50k Dollars.

She couldn't help the bright smile that crept on her face.

"Thanks for your generosity and also thank your boss for me." She acted like a child who had just seen money for the first time.

"Sure, step aside please." James the driver cleared his throat and glared at Charly like she was a leech.

Charly nodded happily and stepped away.

"Yeah yeah, sure you can go now okay, bye!." she grinned from ear to ear while securing the money In her bag.

The driver could only shake his head but unknowingly to them all their drama had been listened to by the man in the car.

His lips curved slightly in disdain and amusement as he watched her walk away from the car.

Finally, the driver got rid of the strange lady and got into the car to see his boss staring out the car coldly.

"I'm sorry for delaying you, master." The driver apologized to his boss and turned on the ignition.

"Let's go." Was the only thing he said as he turned his attention back to the laptop on his thigh.

The driver nodded and drove off immediately.

Meanwhile, Charly jogged all the way to her mom happily, forgetting all about her encounter at the police station.

Who cares anyway? She was $50,000 richer and that's what matters.

She stopped by a street ice cream kiosk and bought Emma's favorite flavor and also went over to a restaurant nearby and bought Tamales for her mom.

"Mom!" She called out the moment she stepped into their apartment.

"I'm in here, honey." Her mom half yelled from the kitchen and Charly rushed over happily.

"Hey, mom." She hugged her mom from behind and acted coquettishly.

"You seem happy today little bug. Is there something you want to tell me?" Mrs. Chloe couldn't help but chuckle softly.

"Nothing mom, I got you your favorite. I'll just put Annie's ice cream in the fridge." Charly let go of her mom and took out the things she bought.

Mrs. Chloe smiled happily while staring at her daughter who was doing everything just so they could be happy but she knew she won't be happy yet until she gets married.

" Thanks, honey, just go upstairs and change your clothes while I finish up here." Mrs. Chloeshoo ran away and Charly burst into laughter.

"Okay, mom I'll be down in two minutes." She said rushing upstairs to her room.

Once inside her room she took off her clothes and fixed a warm bath to relax her nerves.

She was gonna tell her mom about the money over dinner but then something crossed her mind and she wondered how she was gonna deliver the news of getting married to her mom without raising suspicion.

"Damn it!" She Slapped the water and cursed inwardly at her misfortune but Immediately her cell phone rang and she got out of the bathtub and wrapped a towel around her chest before walking towards her.

"Hello?" Charly got to the phone right before the call could disconnect and saw it was an unknown number.

"Get ready by 10 am tomorrow a driver will pick you up from your address." The lady spoke without acknowledging her greetings.

"Why are you taking me to?" Charly rolled her eyes at how rich people think.

"You're going on a blind date with your future husband so make sure to look your Best." Was the only thing said and the call got disconnected.

"Did she just hang up on me?" Charly didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
