In the Woods Somewhere

Hamish never really saw the point on legends, they are stories made for children who believe in magic. But then magic comes to him, first in his dreams and then in the form of a boy...or a wolf. Hamish knows there's something wrong with the town, he knows there are things being hidden on plan sight, but what he didn't expect was that making a search through the towns past would get him to find out about his own past, about the creatures that hide in the woods and above all: About who he truly is and to whom his heart truly belongs to. Hamish would find out the hard way that sometimes love is the biggest of curses and that he was more afraid of loving a man than becoming a wolf

The boy from my dream

POV: Jake

I was no strange to death, to blood, to the dark, to curses or scary stories. But love, oh, that was something that scared me, more than it should at least. There was a big white house in front of me, I recognized it from pictures, it was the house of LakeVille's Mayor, the town where my family used to live, the town just next to Witchtale. A woman ran passing through me with her hair flying on the wind, at first I thought it could be a beautiful scene for a painting but I soon understood what was happening, when I saw the look on her face followed by the presence of a figure hiding behind a dark cloth and a white mask, holding a gun. It took me more time than it should have, in order to realize who the woman was. It was my aunt, Rosemary Atlas Reynolds, and that was the night when she was killed. I saw the moment when the trigger was pulled, her body started falling to the ground and the blood stained the pearls she had around her neck. I instinctively took my hand to my neck, the pearls had passed on to me, but I couldn't feel them there, though I couldn't remember taking them off. So I tried to ran to her but when I knelt down next to her body she dissapeared, leaving behind a soil wet by blood

"This is what love does" I heard her saying, when I turned to where the voice was coming from I found myself in front of a different scene: Rose was hung in front of the house, the bullet still there, the necklace too, though her neck was now broken as if she was a witch on the inquisition, next to me was the figure in black, looking at me with a knife in hands, I wanted to run but my legs did not allow me. So the figure pulled out the mask tossing it into the floor but it wasn't the original killer, instead it was a boy I didn't know. His face seemed so delicate opposing to the blood that marked his face, his eyes were of a beautiful shade of blue, but there was something dangerous about them, and his hair, I caught myself wanting to ran my hands through his light blonde curls but when I stretched out my hand I could see with more clarity that his hair had blood on it too. My hand was stained with blood as well, not my aunt's though, mine. I looked down and realize with some urgency that he had stabbed me, I could feel my chest going up and down searching for oxygen as if I knew I was going to run out of it, pure prey instinct. But when I looked up and back at him, he smiled, he looked awfully calm "This is what love does" he told me, just like Rose said and touched my face "It's okay, you'll find me" just like that, he twisted the knife and I allowed my eyes to close

When I opened them again I was panting, immediately using my hand to touch my stomach on the search of any kind of wound but there was nothing there. Then I took my hand to my neck, still out of breath, but the notion that my necklace was back in place helped me to calm down, just as my breath start getting steady I heard a knock on the trailer's door that put me back on alert "Jake!" the voice though, was certainly a familiar comfort for me as I made my way to the door "Hello Mon'amour" I greeted the woman of my life: Monalisa Bird. She was my best friend and best part of my days, just the person I would tell about the nightmare. It was a great honor to be the only one, besides her mother, that was allowed to extend the nickname Mona to Mon'amour "You okay?" she asked noticing the sweat that glued some locks of my hair to the back of my neck "I was about to ask you the same thing" I made a gesture with my chin to her slightly blurred eye shadow. Even then she was gorgeous, with her short hair that was mix in between brown and red, and which she had cut at home on her own style, besides of course, her light eyes and golden nose piercing "Wanna come in?" Mona nodded and I stepped away allowing her inside my humble trailer. I loved to be dramatic about it, but if I were to be honest I liked living inside it and besides with all the work dad had to do in the pack he couldn't actually get a stable job to afford much more than that, and it had been hard for him ever since mom left

"Are you going to start or should I?" I made the most important question while I poured her a glass of water "Thank you" Mona grabbed it and took a deep breath, somehow answering my question "I'll go then..." I leaned my body against the sink and took a sip from my cup before staring "I had a very vivid dream about my aunt's death" Mona was one of few persons with whom I felt comfortable talking about the whole Reynolds thing, in fact since dad and I moved we used his last name, Haley. It was better than have the entire town asking about our family, specially now that mom was away, I really missed her and so did dad but no one could blame her. She married Kiam Haley without knowing that he was a werewolf, he didn't told her, not even when she got pregnant. My mother, Ivy Reynolds, only found out when I turned into a wolf for the first time...and...it was a bit too much to handle. The big secret dad kept from her, she didn't knew what to do, so she got a divorce "I am sorry to hear, how do you feel?" I shrugged "I guess it is important to mention that I was also murdered by a very hot guy in the dream" she made a face and raised her cup "I'll drink to that" "You know that's water right?" Mona took a silent sip ignoring my comment "And you?" "Oh, well, Alex left. The little Bird flew away from the nest" I chuckled in front of the joke she made with her family's last name "This must be the fourth or fifth time Alex leaves, he'll be back" I assured sitting next to her. Alexander Bird was kind of an explorer, an adventure seeker, he always found an excuse to go on a trip as if some mission awaited him

"No, it's not like the other times" I brought my eyebrows together waiting for her to explain "He went looking for someone, from our mother's past and I don't think is gonna work out" I placed my arm around her pulling her close, I knew how family could be complicated "Do you wanna talk about it?" Mona shook her head "Not really, I came here to see if I could work with you today...to keep my mind out of it, you know" "Yes, of course" I worked close to the center of Witchtale in a store called 'White Rose' to honor my aunt and the flowers that grew on her tombstone. I sold homemade accessories like rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Also natural stones and incense. By the backs of the store though, I attended some clients who wanted to know about their future, I read palms and cards, tarot to be more specific. I guess I liked to believe that I had some gifts inherited from Rose and the witch, Atlas "I am gonna take a shower real quick and then we can go, make yourself at home" "Oh, I will" I laughed and disappeared into the backs of the trailer where she could no longer see me, but where I could still hear her comment and she, my reply "So...how hot was the guy" "Fuck off Mona" "What happened to Mon'amour?" the answer I gave her was simply the sound of the shower being turned on. And as the hot water got to my skin I couldn't help but wonder if my dream had any meaning...I did saw one thing or another that I would classify as spirits, so why not visions? But what could it mean? Was the story going to repeat itself and on which way?

When Monalisa and I got to the White Rose it was already opened, inside 'Modern Love' by David Bowie was playing louder than it should be and behind the counter was a woman with long waved black hair and rare violet eyes who was testing out the rings we were suppose to be selling "Hi Silas" she raised her eyes at us but didn't bother putting the rings back into place, she was probably going to keep one or two "Well hello" Silas got out of place and walked till she was standing in front of us and put her hands on my shoulders "Tell me Jacob, how did you sleep today?" I froze and I guess so did Mona. Silas had appeared one day on the store, a little after I started studying tarot and saw my aunt Rose for the first time, well kind of. I could swear on my mother's name I had seen a ghost. Then it came Silas, saying that she was demon with a debt to be paid with the Reynolds' family and for that would guide me and help me with everything that I needed. Of course, neither I or dad believed her but she stayed around and actually did help me, though she had always been a little...odd, but I guess every family needs that one crazy aunt "I..." I gulped "Yes" Mona punched my shoulder forcing me forwards, sometimes I didn't know if she forgot being a werewolf made her stronger or if she simply used her strength on purpose "He had a nightmare with a hot guy" Silas grinned "If there's a hot man involved then it wasn't a nightmare at all" she said with simplicity and walked away to lower the song so we could talk "Tell me was it with a Norwood?" "A what now?" she sighed, as if it bothered her that I didn't know everything "Must I explain it all?"

"Atlas was about 25 when her dreams stared-" Mona raised a hand to interrupt Silas "Hold on, it's not mathematically possible for you to have know Atlas Reinwald" "I told you, I am the spawn of Amousdeus, demon of Lust. I am an immortal being, a legend, a walking piece of desire-" she stopped herself when seeing our expressions "Never mind" Silas tossed both hands to the air "There's a curse you see, generations of Reynolds falling in love with Norwoods and it has always ended in blood" I couldn't help but think about the nightmare, could Silas actually be right? Had I seen some sort of prophecy? "The most famous stories are of course, Atlas and Jamie, and then years later Rose and Nancy in 1996...perhaps your mystery boy is one of them, a Norwood" I blinked a couple times, that couldn't be happening "It was just a dream" "But it didn't feel that way, did it?" her violet eyes stared at me as if she dared me to deny it "No" I was saved from that conversation when my cell phone rang on my pocket, with the name of Billie on the screen "I am gonna take this one" I tried to ignore everything Silas had just said but talking to Billie was another pull into the subject. Billie Day was the newest member of our pack, though they tried to take a normal life most of the time, and called to see if I could bring some of Rose's things to the carnival...in a way it was that or keep having that crazy conversation with Silas so I decided to run away...ironically when I got there I found the boy from my dream
