Confuse, Confuse Not

{MAYA}

They walked to the office and Brent yanked the phone from Maya's hands. Maya looked behind and then at Brent and screamed, "why are people snatching my phone from me today?"

"People what do you mean people?" Brent asked as he unlocked Maya's phone.

Maya looked as Brent opened the messaging app and checked who Maya was texting. He turned to Maya and asked, "Maya, your mother is in town and instead of being with her you came to me, come on I am here and I will be here even tomorrow."

"Oh, Levi and Lewi too."

"What? Oh, they are going to kill me. I am so dead." Brent said dramatically.

"Oh, don't be overdramatic Brent," Maya said and tried to take the phone back from Brent's hand which by the way she didn't manage.

"Give me back my phone, and wait a minute didn't I remove your fingerprint from my phone." Maya asked and Brent smiled at her and informed her, "oh, you did? I can't remember since I always unlock your phone loves."

"Shut up!"

"And password, I remember changing it," Maya said and tried again to take the phone back.

"You did? Didn't you? But I have it." Brent said and unlocked the phone again, he went ahead and received an incoming call.

"Hello, beautiful." Brent began.

Maya knew it was her mother and tried once again to take the phone from Brent's hand, Brent moved and continued talking to Maya's mother. Maya hoped that her mother won't ask him to join them for supper and as if her mother could hear her from her apartment, she told Brent, "why don't you join us?"

Maya shouted, "no, mother."

"Hello there Maya, did you forget to mention to me how handsome Brent has become," Amelia shouted and Maya could feel her face turning red.

"Brent can you open the damn door or I will kick your ass," Maya said through gritted teeth.

Brent scoffed and said to Maya's mother to wait for a minute while he opened the door for the queen. He put the phone far away from Maya's reach and opened the door using his left hand.

"I knew your moment would come," Maya said she was commenting on how gracefully Brent would use both his hands without a problem.

"Yeah, welcome to my humble abode," Brent said and made a bow.

"You are crazy," Maya said and rolled her eyes.

"And you love it."

"Talking about love…" Maya's mother began and Maya knew where her mother was going with that conversation so she cut her off, "mother, not now."

"What about love?" Brent asked as he closed the door. "Nothing," Maya said and Maya's mother said instead, "I am just asking what the two of you think about love."

"Oh, love. Amelia, what is love?" Brent asked with a serious tone and expression and pointed at a seat for Maya to take.

"I just asked you the damn question." Amelia said and Maya could hear Levi and Lewi shouting, 'mother is bad, mother has said the d-word."

"I thought the d word is…" Maya heard one of her brothers shouting and she was sure it was Levi, that boy has a mouth.

"Maya it is not me, it is Lewi." Maya rolled her eyes and lay flat on the couch. "Brent I asked you a question." Amelia could be heard on the phone saying.

Maya stayed quiet as she waited for Brent to answer her mother's question while thinking what had come over her mother, wasn't she supposed to be working or cooking with Levi and Lewi, why did she call and start asking about love.

"Come join us for lunch." Amelia invited Brent, Maya looked at Brent whom he found already looking at her, what was he waiting for Maya to shout, no?

"Really?" Brent asked as he waited for Maya to say something.

Maya closed her eyes and sighed, she came here to talk and not invite him for lunch, not that she didn't want but she really wished she was maybe Brent would tell her what it was that he had called her for.

"Amelia maybe I can…" Brent said and walked to the couch Maya was lying on, he lifted Maya's head, took a seat, and place it on his lap.

"Maya the boss." Amelia said and Maya chuckled, "what is that?" Levi and Lewi shouted and Maya was so sure they were coming to see.

Maya looked at Brent and the eyes meant, "if I take the phone and you don't allow me, I will kill you." Brent hand her the phone and Maya looked at her mother and immediately sat down, "mom, what have you been doing? Fighting with the flour?"

"Yeah, I am cooking you some cakes."

"Mom, I don't want cakes."

"You ungrateful…" Maya's brother asked as his head came into the view. He then asked, "Hello handsome." And winked.

Maya looked behind her and saw Brent winking back. "Hey, you two stop."

"Brent we are in town, would you please come and see us, we are in town. Did I mention that?" Maya's other twin brother said and winked.

They looked at one another and said at the same time, "Brent, you confuse us."

Brent laughed, that was supposed to be his line and not theirs. What did they mean he confuse them? He was the one who kept confusing the two of them, he wouldn't differentiate between Levi and Lewi.

Maya's mother squeezed herself in between her sons, smiled at Brent sweetly, and said, "see, we all miss you, come see us, will you."

Maya tried to relax and found it hard, she needed to talk to Brent and go back home, her twin brothers were in town and they were not going to stay there forever, and her mother too was busy and once she was done she was going back home.

"So, as I was saying you keep on confusing us, love…" One of the twins began and Maya couldn't help but roll her eyes, she said to them, "confuse, confuse not. Bye."

With that, she ended the call and looked at Brent, "Brent?"
