You can hear the sound of the bell ringing across the campus. It's signaling the end of another period. I'm currently in the library, staring at my laptop while I figure out how I should go on with my school projects and schedule.
If you were asking what happened after my Christmas break, the answer is nothing. Nothing really happened. Megan and Aurora cut me off like I never even existed. They stopped talking, not just with me but with Casper and Kataniya too. I guess it was bound to happen.
I tried not to get it into me and avoided every moment I had to cross their paths. I always have this bile taste surfacing from my throat, just thinking of them. Right now, I just have to focus on myself and my degree.
I cracked my fingers to loosen it a bit and I let out a sigh. I guess, after how many sleepless nights after my Christmas Break, I get some rest time from all the school work. Or so I thought? Just when I had pressed enter to send my assignments to my professors, my phone buzzed.
I took the phone out of my bag to find a notification from Robert. Robert is our club president, and I think I already have a clear picture of why he was ringing me.
"Andrea, can you go with me to the meeting? I need someone to take down the minutes for the upcoming event this Saturday. Meet me in the club room this 4 PM."
Ah! Good thing I was able to finish all my deadlines this week. At least I can give time for my extracurriculars. I checked the time on my phone, and I realized it's already 5 minutes before 4. I rushed to fix my things because the club building is still far from where I am. I will have to run to get there within the remaining time.
After collecting all my things, I silently ran down the library. I had to be quick, or I would have to hear a mouthful from Robert, who is always the never late type of guy.
When I got to the club building, I had to run to the elevator because it was about to close. Great timing for whoever is inside, the person held the door for me.
I absent-mindedly thanked the guy who was standing behind me as I try to fix myself. Like, damn girl, I looked like a wreck. I roughly brushed my hair using my fingers. The good thing about having short hair is that it's easy to fix compared when I had my long hair. I had to pick the strands of hair that got stuck on my forehead because of the sweat. My glasses were a little foggy because of my heavy breathing, so I wiped the fog out from my specs and placed it back again.
I silently took a deep breath to calm my heartbeat before going out of the elevator. While walking, you can see through the glass doors that the club offices are also full of students who are also having their meetings.
The school is currently busy right now because aside from exam week, the school's foundation day is drawing near. It only means one thing, students are already planning for their events, booths, and decorating the whole campus for the special occasion.
My club is no exception. Our club is connected to the student council's office. That's why we have more work to do as the days come near.
When I got into the front door of our office, I slowly opened it. I want to sneak in because I'm five minutes late already. Just when I was able to put my bag on the sofa next to the door, Robert was already behind me. He was looking at me with a raised brow.
"Hi, Robert!" I screamed the greeting. Hopefully, he gets distracted and then forgets the fact that I was a little late. I was still catching my breath from the marathon earlier.
"Andrea, you're late. But good thing that the others are still not here." He calmly told me and went back again to the meeting area where he was preparing for his presentation. I stuck my tongue out as a joke and followed him.
He was busy writing on the board while I prepare for the projectors that we will be needed later. After setting up, I returned to the sofa to get my meeting notebook from the bag.
Out of nowhere, I suddenly felt like the room darkened. Wait? Who turned off the lights.
"Ro-"
Whatever words that I was about to say, left. When I lifted my head, I saw a boy towering over me. He was beaming with his pearly white smile. I was bewildered and confused as to why he was smiling widely. His almond eyes were also smiling.
Maybe he noticed that I was not moving anymore and was just staring at him.
"Is this the Logistics and Events Management office?" he smiled again. What's with him and smiling?
I'm still astonished as to how tall he was that I wasn't able to answer him. Good thing Robert was quick, and he responded to the guy.
"Ahem. Yes. Come in, Nic."
I gave him a "Hey, don't look at me, he was very tall" look. I mean, he was so tall that I thought the lights were out. I chuckled, took my notebook out, and joined Robert at the meeting table.
I was busy arranging everything that is needed for the meeting while people are getting into the office.
"Okay, guys, let's start?"
Robert called for their attention so we could start.
"We need volunteers for our activity. The student council will be leading this project. We planned to make it a joint project with the sports club as well. We will be visiting an orphanage, called The Faith orphanage. We will then teach recreational sports for the children."
The meeting started with Robert standing in front of everyone. I was busy writing down the minutes. We will be helping an orphanage for a whole month, and we will visit them every Saturday. We have to teach them sports to help them cope with loneliness and anxiety.
"These are what we need for the project." while pointing at the PowerPoint presentation. We need to buy these materials for this Saturday. We also need to prepare for the snacks." Robert continued to explain.
"Andrea here, the Logistics and Events Management secretary will be assigned with the allocation of tasks in buying the needed materials. I hope you'll provide her the help she needs."
I just smiled and stood up to take over the meeting.
"Hello everyone, I'm Andrea. Since Robert already explained most of it, I'll discuss the schedule and when we need to buy the following. We're hoping that you can provide at least one member from your clubs to help us procure."
I flashed the schedule and explained the details. You all know, I'm not a good entertainer. Most of the time, I'm the one laughing at jokes, not the ones telling them. Otherwise, it would not even make sense.
"So, um. I hope you can help me buy these things. I'm not really that strong to carry everything." Shit, that was awkward. I should have shut up and just went on with the formal tone. But, no! You went and tried to tell a joke.
I was awkwardly laughing while smiling at them. Good thing they were also laughing.
"I can help you. Just call me anytime, and I'll come with you."
I gave him a puzzled look. I was busy writing the forms for budgeting earlier that I wasn't paying attention to when they had the introduction part.
"Dominic. Nic for short." He smiled again.
I don't know what's wrong with my brain, but it stopped functioning. I can't even give a reply. I was overwhelmed by his voice. Although I was expecting that it would be big and deep given his stature, I can't still believe it would sound like this.
"I'm the Manager of the Volleyball Team."
"Ah, oh, I'm sorry." I shyly snapped back to reality.
"Yeah, sure. Kindly fill up this form and put your contact details so we can keep in touch." I smiled back and gave him the form so I can continue the meeting.
After that long and tiring meeting, it ended.
They were all having fun and talking with each other while I was returning the things that we used for the meeting. I want to go home right away so I can binge-watch the anime I just downloaded.
"Andrea, don't push yourself too hard. You know you're not allowed to lift heavy objects." I was about to lift the boxes when Robert stopped me. I just smiled at him and let him help me carry it.
When we finished arranging everything, I grabbed my bag as fast as lightning and went out of the office.
Outside of the office on the second floor, you can look down on the hallway and see the ground-floor where most of the booths and events are. Currently, it's the Computer Science week, and they have booths with E-games tournament.
I do play some online games, but I'm not into the competitive ones. I'm scared of getting bullied by other gamers.
"I'm really not good with these kinds of games."
"Really? I like games like that."
I was surprised when I heard a guttural voice coming behind me. I must have been thinking out loud.
