Chapter 4

Vickson's POV

Five years later,

I had been waiting for what felt like forever in the boardroom; at my office, I wasn't the only one.

A lot of shareholders were also forced to wait for my new investor.

I was getting impatient. The meeting was meant to start at 9 a.m., but it was already 10 a.m.

I was about to stand up and leave when I heard the door opening.

"Good morning, sir. We are sorry for the delay." I heard a feminine voice as I turned to see who it was.

My eyes widened in shock as I began to sweat profusely, despite the air conditioning being on. It felt like my chair was shaking beneath me, and I almost fell off my seat.

"We have been waiting for so long. This is unprofessional. "One of my shareholders didn't waste time showing his anger.

The lady cat walked her way to the center of the room, standing in front of everyone.

It took her a few seconds before her eyes darted to me.

We both looked at each other, shocked to the bones.

Never in the last five years of my life did I expect that I would see Hailey again.

I took a deep breath as I struggled to keep a straight face and looked her straight in the eyes.

I could still feel our mate bond, even though I rejected her years ago.

My heart was pounding in my chest so fast, and my mate was just uncontrollable.

"I'm sorry once again. If it's not a problem, then we can start now," she said, bringing out her laptop and connecting it to the projector.

I was counting on the fact that she would flop this deal. And I wouldn't have to partner with her company, but her presentation was simply flawless.

The same people who called her unprofessional a few minutes ago were busy applauding her, and unfortunately, I had to join them.

After she was congratulated by almost every member of the board, I stood up from my chair and walked out of the room.

I felt so suffocated that I almost couldn't breathe. I made my way to the bathroom and rinsed my face with cold water before cleaning my face with a towel.

"She is even more beautiful than she was five years ago. I want her now." I heard my wolf's voice in my head.

"You can't have her; we rejected her five years ago. Have you forgotten?" I asked my wolf, staring at my reflection in the mirror.

"You rejected her. I never did. I want her!" My wolf craved for Hailey more than any other thing on earth.

And if truth be told, I craved her too, but it was just too late to have her back.

I took a deep breath, ignoring my wolf's voice, as I made my way out of the bathroom.

I was walking towards my assistant's room to get some files from her.

Her office was just at the entrance of the office.

I was so lost in my thoughts when I bumped into a lady. She was about to fall when I caught her just in time.

"I'm sorry," I apologized, without looking at her face.

I placed one of my hands behind her back, with my other hand holding her hand firmly.

"Hailey?" I whispered, feeling drawn to her.

At that moment, the only thing I wanted to do was kiss her everywhere. It felt as though the whole world came to a standstill just for the both of us.

"Put me down. People are staring at us." She swallowed hard and looked around.

She was right; all my employees were staring at us. But I honestly didn't care. I had been yawning to have her for the past five years, and now that she was finally in front of me,

I decided to use that opportunity to my full advantage.

"Vickson!" I heard a familiar feminine voice that sent my heart on a wild race against itself.

Ava walked into the office to find me and Hailey in such an awkward position.

She looked shocked, almost as if she were about to have a heart attack.

She angrily separated the both of us and grabbed me by the wrist. She pulled me away from Hailey, and I felt as though a huge part of me was leaving me again.

Ava dragged me to my office and locked the door behind us.

"What was that about Vickson? Why is she here?!" Ava screamed at me, almost breaking down in tears.

"I have no idea. She is the new investor we have been waiting for," I explained to her, but Ava squinted her eyes and looked at me.

"You don't plan on going back to her after all these years, do you?" She asked me, coming close to me and asking me in the creepiest voice.

I remained silent for a while because, deep down, I knew that I was still in love with Hailey. I never stopped loving her, not even for one second.

"Vickson!! Don't you even dare? Can't you see that I love you?" She asked me, grabbing my shoulders and shaking me roughly.

I became tired of her drama and forced her hand off me.

"I don't care. You were the one who blackmailed me into rejecting your sister and told me all sort of lies that she cannot bear children. You and your mother! At this point, the elders can perish for all I care. I have always loved her, and she is the only one I love. Can't you see that?" I asked, and she gave me a slap across the face.

I was about to return to slap, but I remembered how dramatic she can be and what she was capable of doing to me.

"She is not my sister. That rejected orphan can never be my sister. My parents picked her up by mistake, and you are going to love only me.

Unless you want to see your little, darling sister's dead body," Ava pointed her finger at me.

I swallowed hard and looked at her.

"Ava, why do you keep doing this? When are you going to set my sister free? How long are you going to torture me like this? I have lost my mom and dad; she is the only person I have left. Ava, please, let her go." I felt so helpless, and Ava scoffed.

"For as long as it would take for you to love me and forget about that weak she-wolf, Vickson, I am the one meant for you. You need somebody like me, not her. Just love me," she pleaded, and I turned my face away from her.

If only I knew that Ava would not release my sister, Emily five years ago, then, I would have never divorced Hailey in the first place nor listened to her lies.

I walked over to my window, with Ava fuming behind me. And my jaw dropped open when I saw Hailey with quadruplets. Whose kids, were they? I thought she had problems with her womb and could not bear children.

And why did she have to bring them to work with her? Well, since she left Ava right here has become barren too. I regret leaving Hailey. My greatest mistake.

No! I have to find out who fathered those kids, no matter what.

I know she isn't married yet; there is no ring on her finger. She is still mine; she is my mate.
