2. Returning

After 10 minutes of straight running without stopping, I finally arrived home.

I opened the door so fast that you could hear a loud bang.

I look up to see the confused faces of my mom and dad. Seeing them for the first time in 15 years hit me harder than I expected.

I stared at them before my tears started to fall again. This was the 5th time I had cried within the last 15 years. Three of those times were just within the last hour.

My parents were very confused when they saw this. I could only hug them both tightly.

"It's been so long; I have missed you guys."

All of the pent-up emotions from 15 years of fighting now burst out.

My parents looked at me, stupefied. Before I left, I was in my rebellious phase, so this side of my character was a surprise for my parents.

I, of course, was no longer the little boy I was.

I was 31 years old, but now I was back in my 16-year-old body.

My parents only consoled me as I hugged them. I then hear footsteps behind me. Coming down the stairs was a small boy with dark brown hair.

He looked a little innocent as he came down.

This was my younger brother Drake. He was a little confused as he looked over. Not caring about his weird stares, I hugged him too.

I was always close to my brother, so it was never weird.

"Brother, why are you crying? Did you not get the new Super Smash Sisters?"

His innocent but concerned face stared at me. I was in shock as memories flooded in. Sh*t, I can believe I forgot that the new Super Smash was coming out.

It's been 15 years since then, so I forgot.

"Yes, It was all out, but it's fine because we can buy it online."

I gave my brother a smile to assure him that it was fine. He nodded before running up the stairs.

"Ok, I'll be waiting upstairs."

After he finally went up, my parents looked at me, concerned.

"What happened? Are you alright?"

I look at my mom's worried face with a warm heart. Of course, I couldn't tell her I had been on a deadly battlefield for the last 15 years.

Even if I did, she would hardly believe me.

"It's nothing. I've just noticed that I would be ruined and alone if I lost you guys."

My mom's eyes reddened as she hugged me again. My dad just patted me on the back with a smile.

After coming home, I went up to my room to change.

The battle gear I wore was dark black. It was too big for me, so I took it off.

I still had my halberd on me, which was a little surprising.

Looking at the halberd, I reminisce about my memories.

I put it in my closet so I could finally move on. Going through the pockets of my gear, I noticed something.

Inside my pocket was a bag. A thick piece of white-looking chalk with blue sparkles was in the bag; on the outside was a note.

I open the note with interest.

"Dear Silas, I hope you make it to your world safely. I know you, so I know that you will do your best no matter what you do in the future. I hope you never forget me. So I secretly put this runic market in your pocket. I hope you aren't too mad at me. I don't know if it would work, but the formation and steps to set up the awakening array are on the back of this note. I could only give you this much, but it should be enough. I don't know if it will work, but if it does, I hope you find me again and become the Hero to save the princess. Love, Juliette"

I turn the note around to see a complicated-looking runic circle engraved on the back. I had learned some stuff on runic arrays when I was there, so this wasn't completely foreign.

But looking at this, I feel complicated. When I decided to return, I also decided to leave behind the world of magic and fighting.

So seeing this made me feel a little weird.

Well, I might as well try it.

If it works, I don't have to use it; I won't have any regrets if it doesn't. I decide to leave that for tomorrow as I finally climb into my old bed.

Although it's only 3 PM, I fall asleep hard. I only awoke when it was 7 AM the next day.

Waking up, I hear my mom coming into my room telling me I have school. What the sh*t. You have to be kidding me.

I come back from saving the world, and the next day I return to school. How annoying is that? I begrudgingly hoisted myself out of bed.

I am half asleep. The once almighty Hero of another world was now changing to learn Algebra. I have a weird face as I climb onto the school bus.

I hear someone calling my name. I look up to see a red-haired kid waving his hands.

That is Cam, and he was my best friend. I said WAS, because I don't know if I could call him my best friend now. I made unbreakable bonds with the people I fought with in the other world.

Finding another friend as close as that in this peaceful age is hard. I sit next to him. Memories flood my head as I remember all our times together.

"Dude, have you played the new Super Smash Sisters yet??? It's crazy! They have so many characters, and the story is sooo good!"

I could only stare blankly as I listened. His silly smile was a nice change. I slowly look at him with a smile. Maybe it's not so bad to have a friend like this.

We finally arrived at school. Everything looks so foreign but not at the same time. As time passed, I got used to everything again. My friends looked at me a little funny as they notice my slight changes.

I don't mind because, technically, I am over 30 now, but it is a little weird.

"Yo, look, Silas! It's Lorrene, your crush~~."

I look over to see a blonde hair girl walking across the halls. She was a little shorter than me, and her petite frame didn't help. She looked just like a princess. As I looked, I felt a little melancholic.

"Juliette."

I could only say this before sighing. My old crush Lorrene had similarities to Juliette. I guess that's where I got my preferences from. I smile wryly as I stare at her.

"Bro, who is this, Juliette? Is she your new crush now?"

Cam starts blabbering away, but I ignore him. Who could understand? I know Cam wouldn't be able to.

So, I don't think about it and try to move on. It's hard, but hopefully, it'll get easier. But at the same time, I don't want to move on. I feel as if I move on, then I will forget a part of myself.

School ends, and I head back home.

Time flies by as I sit back home on my bed, looking at my bedroom ceiling.

Being at school was such a weird experience to feel again. It feels as if I am a kid again. I see a white marker beside a note in my field of view.

I sigh as I get up to grab it. Inspecting it, I look down at my floor. My floor is a lovely wooden floor that was probably quite expensive.

I don't care, though, as I size it up.

I think this will be enough room.

I tell my parents not to interrupt me as I am "doing my homework". Of course, I am not actually doing my homework.

I grab a piece of string and start measuring stuff. Since I have made arrays before, I know how precise I must be, so I can't mess it up. Slowly taking my time, I draw a big circle about 4 feet by 4 feet.

I had to move some stuff in my room, so I had enough space. After an hour, I was only a fourth done. I was sweating hard, but I knew I couldn't stop.

I am halfway done, but my hands are starting to get tired. It feels so bad now that I don't have my strength and stamina from before. I could split mountains, but now I have trouble drawing a picture-like array.

Time passes, and I am almost done. I had heard my mom knock a couple of times, but I was so focused that I couldn't respond. The final steps were taking place.

In the middle, I had to imbue mana. That is with standard arrays, though.

I don't need to with this unique array made out of the special market that Juliette gave me.

This is because mana is already imbued into it.

I don't know if it will work, but I have to try it anyway. After making the final circle, I had to do the last step.

"Array casting, activate!"

A bright light shone as the marked parts lit up. It turns from a bright white to a gray, then to multiple colors. Purple, red, green, black, and finally white again. After the light fades, I see something in my sight. I also hear multiple things.

After hearing the dull woman's voice, I was in shock. But before I could think about it, I felt my consciousness fade away as I fell to the ground.

I didn't know it at the time but I was not the only person who heard this woman's voice. More people than I could ever imagine listened to that sound, and chaos would soon ensue.
