Short Side Story: The Boy On The Street

Author's Note: This will be the very last chapter for today. The next set of chapters will be coming out on Wednesday. This chapter which is set approximately at the same time as the main story. This is happening somewhere on the streets of Axanon and will be focusing on the point of view of a child. Since this is just a short side story, the word amount will be from 500 - 1000.

Where am I?

I open my eyes and look around me. It kind of looks like a bunch of houses in a neighborhood but, they look... dirty.

I look down to see where I am and I see that I am sitting down on the ground with only a few clothes on. How did I get here again? I remember running away from a certain place but, I can't remember why I was running or what that place was.

Wait...

"Pandora!"

My little sister, Pandora.

I stand up slowly.

"Ow!"

I fall down back onto my knees. Why is my body hurting so much? I don't think running hurts you that much. But, how will I find Pandora?

I try to look through my memories to see if I brought her with me when I left. Okay so, I remember being given to some people along with my sister by my parents. They probably didn't like us that much so, they gave us away.

Then...

I was put into a place with other children. They all looked so scared even though there was nothing scary at all there. When they saw me, their fear suddenly got bigger, like I was something they should be afraid of.

I didn't know why though. After a long time of just staying there, I heard one of the people say something about me having the 'right aptitude'.

After that, everything got blurry. I don't remember anything that happened during those times. The last thing I remembered that happens after was that I was the only one who was left there, aside from Pandora.

Then, one day, I woke up and she wasn't there anymore. I think that was when I decided to run away from that place and now, I am here. I don't remember almost everything about myself and I don't know where my only family member is.

The only thing I know is my name and how old I am. Both of them were learned from the people who found me and my sister. I have no idea where I am and I don't know how to live. Maybe I should just die, right?

I look around and see that there are other people who look so thin that they might collapse at any time. This place is completely filled with death. I am... familiar with death though. My sister had an ability which was probably the reason that made our parents hate us.

People would suddenly get angry and fight each other when they get near her. When they get too close to her, they die. I knew that much from the fact that the people and the other children would keep their distance from her. I am probably one of the only ones who got near her without getting angry because, I think I already abandoned that emotion.

That was when I suddenly got a weird headache. It felt like one but, it wasn't hurting like a normal one. So, it is one of THOSE headaches. These kinds of headaches have attacked me nearly everyday ever since I became 6 years old. They are always followed by some sort of weird vision that happens right after it occurs.

The first vision I ever got was me running away from somewhere. I'm pretty sure that I already ran away so, maybe I know what will happen in the future? My vision distorts and I see 2 beautiful young women standing next to each other.

One of them had a face with no emotions but was eying me sternly. The other looked like she was enjoying the situation. I never met these people before. I looked to my side and saw a young man with me. He turned to me and smiled.

That smile was...

Genuine. It was almost like he was some sort of friend. That was when my vision ended and I returned to the present.

"Hey, are you alright, little girl?"

I heard a girl's voice near me but, I was too dizzy to even look back. Wait, did she just say little girl?

"I'm... the same age as you... probably. Also, I'm... a boy."

I say those words as loud as I can, but I guess I'm too tired.

"Oh, sorry then. Do you have a name?"

I try to remember what name I had.

"Shu... Avalon..."

"Avalon? Is that a last name?"

"No... I think that was what the people called me."

I finally turned around to see who I was talking to and receive a surprise. The girl looking worriedly at me looks the same as the one in my vision. But, her face is much more expressive and authentic right now so, what happened to her in the future?

"Don't worry. My name is Luscia and I will bring you to a new home."

The girl brought me to an orphanage and said that I will be safe there. But, I already knew that I won't be staying here forever. I already knew that I will be seeing her again with someone else as my friend.
