Chapter 14: The Aura Blade's Granddaughter

After finding out that I can not use magic because I have non-existent Mana, I read the books about sword techniques instead. Luckily, there were some sword techniques that didn't need magic to use.

Some of the sword techniques that I read about in the books I found are the Sharp Knocker, Howling Impact, Shooting Star, Sonic Punisher, and Aura Blade.

Sharp Knocker involves a super-fast horizontal strike to knock the opponent off-balance. The theory behind this attack is that living things usually want to avoid something that is about to cut them. This sword technique makes the target either flinch or stumble backwards, giving valuable time for the user.

Howling Impact is a sword technique which is best used with a two-handed sword. You can use it with a one-handed sword but, its power decreases. It involves a powerful vertical slice upwards and, using its momentum and the force of gravity, a slash downwards. This sword technique is for people who want to end a fight with one move or for people who just want one more hit in.

Shooting Star is a sword technique where the user makes a vertical slash then a horizontal slash. After those two, they make two diagonal slashes from the left and right, creating an eight-pointed star, hence the name. This is a sword technique for getting through strong defenses because of the 8 consecutive cuts that concentrate on the center of armor.

Sonic Punisher involves the user sheathing their sword while running towards the opponent and showing up right behind them to deliver a diagonal slice in their blind spot. This sword technique is a specialty of swordsmen who are fast and agile enough to avoid a hit from an opponent. This also allows them get a strong hit in if they are a bit lacking in muscle strength.

Lastly, Aura Blade needs a high level of strength to execute properly. It creates shockwaves every time the user slashes with their sword, negating the need to get up close and letting swordsmen perform a long-distance attack without using magic. This sword technique was only developed recently and can be used in conjunction with magic. Also, since we don't know the name of it's creator, we just name him Aura Blade as well.

Hopefully, I can use them if I practice a lot.

Maybe, I can create a sword techniques that gets its power from my ability. In regards to that, I hope that I get a good ability to compensate for my lack of magic. Actually, my 5th birthday is happening in a few days already. I think it will happen in 3 or 4 days?

When am I supposed to get my ability!?

Oh well.

It is not like I am able to make it happen just by shouting. I should focus on what I am doing next. Today is the day I will be able to finish my base with an adventurer. I will need to make a good impression.

By the way, last night, I was finally able to see what I look like in a puddle of water that I found. The puddle must mean that it will start raining in a few days though.

Anyway, about my appearance, I have ultra-black hair with a few streaks of red mixed in and amber eyes. The black hair is from my father and I am pretty sure that the red streaks in my hair came from my mother. I don't know about the color of my eyes though.

Genetic mutation or something?

Never mind.

I will go to the Adventurer's Guild now. I should make sure to be friendly with them. The reason for that is because the one who accepted my request could be a professional. If they are, they could be famous and have lots of connections.

The influence and the connections that could be gained from them would be very beneficial for my mission. And all of that happens if I am able to make a good impression on them.

I really think that I have completely turned into a little kid. Wasn't I always calm and rational before? Now, I am just like a kid that has a bit more intelligence than another kid who is around my age. Is this what human geniuses felt like when they were younger?

I've got my 20 Gold coins ready for the person who accepted my request. So, I have nothing to fear!

*Clang*

I take a deep breath.

"I am here for the person who accepted my request! Please come here if you exist!"

The usual noise inside of the Guild vanished after I shouted. You may be wondering, why would I shout like a psycho? Well, this is the easiest way. I can't waste any time trying to find them when I don't know what they look like. So, I opted to just shout to find them.

After a few minutes, a young lady came out of the crowd. Hey, wait a minute. Doesn't she look younger than Corvin? And, if Corvin is barely an adult, is she in the middle stage between child and adult in the human life cycle? I don't know the word for it yet.

"Yes, I exist. Now, let's get out of here already. Just staying here with a lot of people for a long time gave me some chills."

She grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the Guild. Does she know where we are supposed to go? Does her ability let her read minds? She keeps pulling me until we reach the Gate.

"Ok. So, where are we supposed to go, Mister Client?"

What?

Mister?

I think I am a bit too young for that title.

"You can just call me Alex. Anyway, are you the one who will work with me?

"Oh! Yes, I am. Sorry, I didn't introduce myself. My name is Miria and I am definitely a professional swordsman."

Really?

I look at her again.

"You are thinking I am too young, right?"

"Umm, yes."

"Hmph! I guess I do look young. However, you should know that my grandfather is the one who developed the Aura Blade."

"What!?"

Her grandfather created the Aura Blade technique!? Wow. I think I just got someone who could be very useful to me.

"Yes, it is true. So, where are we going?"

"U-uhm. We go to the forest."

"Why?"

"Because in the request I specifically wrote that I am building a SECRET base."

"Oh! Then, let's get going, Alex!"

"Ok, umm, Miria."

She then pulled me along to the forest where we will be building the final stages of my base. At that time, I thought she was just an overly enthusiastic person. However, the things that she taught me would one day save my life.
