Chapter 16: My Best Buddy

My eyes are still swollen from crying the whole night. Looking at my bald image in the mirror with dark circles under my eyes, I'm feeling bad about myself today. I look horrible. Oh well at least I'm still alive. I start preparing for work. Good thing I am allowed to work from home while undergoing treatment.

So refreshing! I'm now ready for work after a nice bath. While checking my emails my phone suddenly rang. I pick it up to check who's calling. My day brightens up upon seeing the name of the caller. It's an overseas video call from my best buddy. He was sent to a business trip last year to UK by their company. "Dude! How are you?" I smiled brightly once I saw Andrei's face on the screen. "Hello beautiful! It's been a while. Sorry I was too busy this past few months I only managed to chat with you a few times. How's your treatment?" A hint of concern shows on his facial expression while speaking. "I'm Ok somehow. I'm glad that you called because I'm not feeling good emotionally since last night." I answered. "Hey hey hey, don't tell me something bad happened between you and your childhood crush. I mean your ultimate love." He chuckles while teasing me. "Dude, he told me he's inlove with someone else." I said exasperated. "Is there anything new? Sweetheart, when we were still in middle school he's already dating someone else. Why not just fall inlove with me?" He laughed while trying to remind me about the past. "Mr. Andrei Lee Rodriguez, please be serious ok. Haven't you met a blonde girl yet in UK? Can you see my baldness right now? I guess even you will choose to date other girls than me." I told him with a bitter smile. "You still look beautiful to me." He said. "Besides you are the one who's not taking me seriously. I told you when we were young that I will marry you someday." He snickers. "What? Hey how should I believe a 6 years old boy back then? You playboy! You even dated several girls during our highschool and college days. You never had a serious relationship, how can I take you seriously? I tease him back about his past relationships. "Ok, I lost to you. Haha. I don't want to say anything more. You might remind me more of the bad things that I've done before. Well, I just want to inform you that my business trip is about to end and I'll be going home next week!" He informed me with excitement in his eyes. "Oh really! Wow, then you have to visit me." I responded happily. "But of course, we're neighbors how can I not visit my best friend. Tell Auntie to cook my favorite food when the day comes. Oh shoot! I'll be having a meeting in a while. I have to end this call ok. See you when I see you. Take care!" We ended our conversation with smile on our faces. That's Andrei, my best buddy in the world.

I get back to work feeling comforted now. He called me at the right time. Andrei and I were childhood friends. We are of the same age. We are neighbors and classmates until College. I guess we also have the same wavelength because we click in everything. He knows who my secret crush is. He used to tease me about how impossible for me to be together with my secret crush (Lance) because he already had a girlfriend and he only sees my as his younger sister. I'm being annoyed everytime he mentions that until one day, he told me that instead of me fantasizing about becoming Lance's girlfriend, I should date him instead. I really laugh hard with what he said. I found that joke very funny. Since then he never bring up the topic again until today on our video call. . . It's kinda weird don't you think?
