chapter 42 Scheme

Xiao Luo brought his sect's disciples into the fray and battled with all his might against the invading demons. His sword couldn't be stopped by any of the demons in attendance.

Xiao Luo supported the now tired Wu Wei and brought him out of the battle to help him recover a little. Wu Wei immediately took some recovery medicines and waited until his dried up body recovered some semblance of qi before joining the battle again.

Without waiting further, Xiao Luo initiated the massacre of the demons in sight. He wanted to look for the commander of the horde but was unable to find a demon that was strong enough to be in command. He knew that either the commander was hidden while controlling the horde or this was just a diversion tactic for going after a fatter target.

No matter what his opinion was, he could not just do nothing even if he wasn't able to find the commander. He could just slaughter the low level demons until the ground was soaked with their blood and the brothers of the Eastern Clan had been avenged.

With the help of the Purple sect disciples, Eastern clan disciples fought with a renewed vigor and strength and were successful in pushing back the demonic horde. Wu Wei was looking forwards to the hidden strength of the demons. Since their commander had yet to show up, they were bound to have some reinforcements.

Time passed and lower level demons were being slaughtered one after the other but reinforcements were nowhere to be seen. Both Xiao Luo and Wu Wei became suspicious and something clicked in place in the mind of Xiao Luo.

He became impatient and restless and flew back towards the Purple sect in a hurry. Seeing him hurrying back with such speed, Wu Wei seemed to have understood something and an exhausted sigh escaped his mouth. He had already deduced that the Eastern Clan had not been strong enough to be the real target; it had been the Purple Sect all this while and the Eastern Clan had only been used to draw out Xiao Luo from the sect along with several of the stronger disciples which would have made the sect more vulnerable.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

World-serpent was standing in front of the Purple sect at almost the same time as Xiao Luo reached the Eastern Clan for help.

The target was the current sect leader of the Purple sect, Long Yi and his Dragon Sword. The Serpent without wasting any time reached outside the cave of the sect master since he knew that the current master of the Purple sect was not very strong.

The World-Serpent could have very easily beat the sect master even if he managed to use the Dragon Sword to its full potential; it clearly knew that Long Yi was unable to do so without preparing.

Feeling the naked killing intent directed towards him, Long Yi rushed out of his cultivation retreat and unsheathed his Dragon Sword to confront the threat that was in front of him and was so openly provoking him to the extreme.

Serpent lunged forwards and struck his wrist with its tail using extreme force to knock the sword out of his grip. As a result Long Yi who had learnt the Golden Dragon Summoning technique with great difficulty was unable to use it at all.

Long Yi tried in vain to reach out towards the Dragon Sword lying some distance away from him but knew that the World-Serpent would never allow him to get it back so easily.

As a result Long Yi continued to avoid the torrential attacks suffused with bursting qi and was able to survive for a while. The World-Serpent knew that it didn't have a lot of time before someone came to hunt it down and therefore was in a hurry to retrieve the Dragon Sword.

Serpent started to get impatient and wanted to get rid of Long Yi who had been getting in the way of it getting its hands on the Dragon Sword. The only one standing between it and its goal was Long Yi who was being very annoying avoiding all its attacks.

Serpent managed to tire Long Yi out after continuously being on the offensive for a long time. As a result Long Yi was knocked to the ground with his time of death approaching with every step the World-serpent took towards him.

Before it could do anything to Long Yi, it was paralyzed in fear of the world-destroying killing intent that it felt at the back of its neck. It never even bothered to take a look behind it before jumping out of the way. It continued running away after jumping and was soon out of sight.

It had clearly evaluated the odds of survival after facing off against the owner of that killing intent and they were definitely not in its favor. Therefore running was the best viable option even if it couldn't achieve its end goal.

He could always come back for the Dragon Sword but its life was not something that it was willing to put on the line for getting it from the Purple sect.

World-Serpent had only gotten out of range of the terrifying force exerting its killing intent when it felt several more powerful auras heading towards it.

Since it had no other choice, it initiated the blood escape to get itself away. It burned the precious blood essence that its body had built up over the period of time without a single thought.

As soon as it left the scene, there was a flurry of movement and a group of people arrived at the place the World-serpent had just been.

Xiao Luo let out an angry roar that showed how helpless he felt and rushed towards the sect along with his disciples.

Luckily, the sect seemed to be as it usually was except for what it seemed like a gloomy silence.

Someone had snuck inside without anyone noticing and had attacked the sect master before escaping all before anyone was able to stop it.

Xiao Luo made a beeline for the chambers of the sect master in order to ask about the current state of the sect and the damage report.

He bombarded Long Yi with questions as soon as he saw him fiddling with his hands. From the pale look on his face Xiao Luo was able to deduce the extent of what had happened.

"What happened here? Did the demons attack the sect? What did they want this time?"

Long Yi kept his head down and fiddled with his hands without answering at first. He wanted to properly gather his thoughts before replying. He was still freaked about what had happened earlier because if it had not been for the painting of Zhang Jian, he would have definitely died a very gruesome death.

After taking some time to confront the series of events, he started to talk to Xiao Luo. If he had taken a second longer, Xiao Luo would have definitely punched his face out of shape.

"The Serpent called me out after sneaking to my residence. I confronted him but my sword got knocked out of my hands before I even activated it with my qi. It was a crushing defeat from that moment onwards. When I was about to be crushed by the World-Serpent, something happened and the painting that you gave me glowed and an oppressive pressure descended on the World-Serpent. As soon as it noticed, it ran away with its tail between its legs."

"What was the goal of that demon? Why would he infiltrate our sect and call you out? Our Purple sect is not that important. If they had wanted to destroy the sect, they would have come with a larger force than that. But they sent a single demon and only attacked you? Do you know why that might be? I think that there is something that you missed."
