Awaken Once More

While I was walking around the city, my expressionless eyes and bored face looked around. It's getting cold, huh? Fog started to appear around the city making everybody wear jackets, scarf and gloves while their breaths was visible.

While I was just... walking around. A massive change who I was 2 years ago and who I am right now. It just feels like I can't get happy anymore, a dreadful guilt eats away at my head postponing my emotions.

This feeling was going to kill me someday I swear. I don't think a lot and I usually speak to no one but myself, and I usually browse the internet for interesting stuffs. But entertainment to me could only do so much.

I've become so numb I don't think I can even feel sadness from what I see anymore. Or maybe I'm just running away again, running away from my problems like the little coward I used to be.

While I was walking, suddenly the reality started to distort, I widened my eyes before looking over to the road only to see the reality creating a hole. A path!! And unconsciously I used my ability...

Weird energy spurted out from my hands as I waved it creating a blue barrier that covered the entire rift preventing the distortion to explode. Although paths opening can't be stopped so easily.

The barrier soon broke, creating neon blue shards everywhere landing on the ground while people run away. I didn't think I would be using my ability, but... I could hear the screams of the people, running away.

I was too soft-hearted it seems. Blue energy spew out from my hand once more before it exploded creating an orb, I raised my hand and the orb flew up to the sky.

And then monsters came out from the paths, they marched out with irritating growls and roars and ugly faces the blue orb in the sky suddenly scattered all around creating blue comically large toothpicks in the sky.

The large amounts of them dropped down from the sky skewering most of the monsters that came out of the rift. But it wasn't enough to remove all of them, I clicked my tongue before blue energy once more formed in my hands and I rushed towards the horde of monsters.

I punched and kicked most of the monsters while blocking evading their weak attacks. I grabbed one of the goblin's arms before raising my knee and slamming it into his face. I used my elbowed one of the monsters behind me, blood came out from its face and death grasped their figure.

Suddenly blue energy exploded form my arm and I swung my arm at air before it created a blue crescent slash that exploded slicing most of the monsters into two pieces.

After that the paths finally started to weaken, its size slowly decreasing and it closed but the monsters were still there. After a certain number of monsters come out of one of the paths they instantly close.

Though the monsters are left there to create havoc, unfortunately I was there, so they won't be going anywhere. I disappeared away from sight before grabbing one of the monster's faces and slamming him so hard to the ground creating a massive crater on it.

The other monsters suddenly got blown away from the sheer wind pressure that the slam created. I dashed to most of the monster, closing the distance instantly before passing by through them with blue energy coming out of my arm.

After passing through each one of them, all of them exploded leaving only neon blue smoke that crushed their bodies. My face making a depressed expression looking at the blue energy coming out of my arm.

I sighed and started to walk away from the area that had a massive crater on it. My expressionless eyes returned again and I simply walked away.

Before suddenly I felt a sword come from above me, I instantly used my arm to grab the sword and simply shatter it to pieces before creating an upward kick to whoever tried to assault me. They instantly blew away, soaring the sky before landing on one of the buildings.

"That's a very quick reaction time." A sweet voice said, quite feminine. She was clapping her hands while looking at me, while I turn my head slowly towards her. "A retired adventurer perhaps? Judging from how you cleared that C-ranked paths I guess you are a B-rank?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't try to play innocent with me. You suck at it, to be honest." She sighed before instantly closing the distance with me only to be stopped by an instant barrier getting casted. "Not to mention, you're a mage aren't you? Most mages take time to create powerful spells while you, you rushed into the battle."

"Battle mages. They were once a trend in my time."

"I recall no trend like that I've been working for 10 years as a leader of a guild." She said the first part with venom before returning to her sweet tone. I looked at her closely, she had a hourglass figure with a big chest that would shame any woman and a matured face.

Graceful-like pink hair and pink eyes with a red dot in the middle. "What a shame you're retired. You seem very strong at that."

To be fair, my performance while killing off those monsters were heavily downgraded, I rusted after 1 year of not fighting monsters. I used to be a prodigy that was scaling up ranks too easily reaching A-rank adventurer before it stopped there.

Besides my ability isn't actually this ability. This ability was the start of it all, I don't know how it downgraded like this, it should be black not neon blue.

My ability worked in mysterious ways, it started off as neon blue and gradually it turned into grey and eventually reaching black. The black energy... was corrupting my mind slowly, after I got it I would have visions of a madman.

But now it downgraded, the visions also stopped. Which means that my ability made a whole reset.

"Well, but I'm not letting someone with such high potential go to waste. Go join my guild." The woman said which made me stare at her blankly.

"No." I flatly rejected her. But she made a smirk.

"Then I'll have to force it do I? Fine let's have a little spar. If I win you join my guild, if you win well. What's your conditions."

"Commit seppuku." I said with a moyai face.

"No."

"Then give me all of your money."

"I can accept that."
