Prologue

My eyes searched for that girl.

The streets were empty. The night sky filled with dark clouds and from the looks of it, it's obviously going to rain. All stores are closed. A few street lights lighting the dark surroundings.

I saw her walking away.

I ran after her and grabbed her wrist as I pulled her to face me. I held both of her hands gently.

She had this straight face. I looked into her eyes intently that had an eyeliner that made her eyes stand out. I saw the pain. "You already listened to it Rain," I cut off afraid of asking what I'm about to ask. No, scratch that. I'm afraid of what would be her answer. "Are you rejecting me?"

I felt like something clutched and squeezed my heart. I was nervous that made it hard for me to breathe. She didn't reply yet but I think I already know her response.

Tears fell from my eyes. I looked down at my shoes feeling embarrassed crying in front of her. "Chase..." her voice whispered in concern. My heart was slowly torn apart the way she called my name. I could hear the mixture of worry, sympathy, and guilt in her tone. "I'm sorry.." she bowed her head not letting go of my hands.

Rain poured down from the dark clouds above. Both of our clothes were soaking wet. But none of us cared to move. Then she leaned her head on my chest. I didn't care if she would hear my pounding heart.

"Chase.. " she raised her head back gently as she called my name. She held my face with her soft hands lifting my head slowly to the same level to hers. She had teary eyes. I don't know if she's holding her tears back or it's just a reflection from the street lights.

"'Love' is just a word. 'I love you' is just a phrase. Why me Chase? You're just hurting yourself."

I turned away from her out of frustration. I glared back at her with sincerity and desperation. "But damn Rain!" I paused and held her face as I lean my forehead to hers. "I don't fucking care."
