Gathering Evidence

Ruan Yifei sat lifelessly on the cold, hard floor of the bathroom. She cried for a long time until she cried herself out and her emotions gradually calmed down. 

After submerging her head in the water, her hair was wet. Her clothes were also damp so she took a shower and changed out of her clothes. 

When she was done, she didn't leave the bedroom and continued to stare blankly in the air. 

Sadness filled her heart, but recalling the memory of her husband kissing another woman hardened her resolve. 

She must get a divorce. 

But she can't just divorce and leave William, can she? 

She needed him to pay for what he did to her.

Suddenly, her phone rang. 

Ruan Yifei glanced over at it. 

It was William. 

She honestly didn't want to deal with anyone right now. Her mind was chaotic and hurting, and hearing her husband's voice would only annoy her. 

She just wanted some peace to think.

After ringing many times, the phone finally went silent. 

But soon, it started ringing again. 

Ruan Yifei hesitated, then answered the call. 

"Honey, where are you?" William's voice sounded anxious on the other end. 

His mistress must have told him already about her visit to the hospital and, hurriedly called her. 

"I'm at home. Why?" 

Ruan Yifei frowned, realizing her voice sounded hoarse. He won't notice that she cried herself to this point, right?

"Oh, you called earlier, so I was worried." 

Ruan Yifei sneered. Worried? He ignored her call when she called him earlier. He only called her after she left the hospital. William didn't even hear the strangeness of her voice. 

Should she be happy or disappointed?

If it was in the past, she might've believed his words. But after seeing the truth with her eyes, she no longer wanted to believe his words. 

"Mm." Ruan Yifei mumbled in a half-hearted acknowledgment. 

Then, she hung up before William could respond. 

Finally, she tossed the phone across the room. Tears filled her eyes once again. Thankfully, she hung up quickly, or else she would have burst out and cursed at him. 

She didn't want to rip his face off yet. She wanted William to think that she was still the same person, easy and naïve. What he doesn't need to know is that she will gather evidence of his affair and use it against him on the day she demands divorce from him. 

Then, even if he tries to find a way out of the situation and hold onto her, he can't because the proof of his affair will stop him. 

Ruan Yifei composed herself. 

…

William arrived late that night. 

When he entered their bedroom, the lights were already out. 

He went to check on Ruan Yifei and after only seeing her lying in bed and already deep in her sleep, he released a sigh of relief. 

After hearing from Doctor Lin that Ruan Yifei came to see her after he left, he almost had a small heart attack. He was afraid that she caught them together and came to confront his mistress. 

Thankfully, nothing happened. 

Ruan Yifei left the hospital without troubling Doctor Lin and went back home. 

Still, he couldn't help but feel worried. So, he ignored Doctor Lin's suggestion to stay with her and went home immediately after work. 

Seeing his wife deep in her sleep, William finally turned around to wash up and change. 

When he was done, he went to bed and kissed Ruan Yifei's cheek before turning around to sleep. 

The room was pitch black, with only a sliver of light coming in through the gaps in the curtains. But Ruan Yifei, whom William thought was sleeping, was completely awake. 

She didn't sleep at all and waited for William to sleep. 

Almost an hour after William closed his eyes, Ruan Yifei finally stirred from the bed. She glanced over William's back with eyes filled with hatred. She badly wanted to get a knife and stab him through the heart, but that would be an easy way out for a scumbag like him.

She gingerly got up from the bed and searched for William's phone. 

There's little chance of it, but Ruan Yifei wanted to see if she could find any evidence in his phone. 

William was sleeping soundly and unaware of her plans. Ruan Yifei gently grasped his thumb and used his fingerprint to unlock his phone, while she kept her eyes on him. 

After unlocking his phone, she went back to her side on the bed. She didn't want to take the risk of him waking up, seeing her awake and going through his phone. 

Opening the messaging app on his phone, Ruan Yifei saw that his chat was filled with messages from both his colleagues and investors. There were messages from herself, his mom, and his other family members. 

It looked meticulous and clean, devoid of any signs that he was chatting with another woman. 

But Ruan Yifei didn't believe that he left nothing for her to find. 

So, she went through his phone and finally came across WeChat. He hid the app so well that it took her some time to find it. 

She opened WeChat and saw his chat with Doctor Lin. 

William must have never expected her to go through his phone, and even if he did, he didn't think Ruan Yifei would ever find the hidden chatting app. 

The previous chat history was still there. 

The recent messages between William and Doctor Lin went like this: 

"Babe, I just finished work today. Can you come pick me up at the hospital?"

"Baby, wait a little longer. I'm still in a meeting."

"Okay, hurry up~"

…

"Babe, I'm so lonely tonight. I really miss you." 

An image of a woman's bare chest was sent after the message.

"Wait, I'll come to see you soon. Get yourself ready."

"Okay~"

…

And today's message continued between them. 

"Babe, your wife came to the hospital. She didn't notice anything, right?"

"What do you mean?"

"She came to me after you left. I really thought she caught us! Thankfully, she went to the hospital for a friend and only talked to me."

"Are you sure she didn't see anything?" 

"Of course! She's so stupid. If she only came a bit earlier, we would've been seen! But, babe, when are you finally going to divorce your wife?"

"Babe?"

"???"

The chat ended there. 

Ruan Yifei looked at the timeline of their text and figured that William must have anxiously called her around that time because he had forgotten to reply to his mistress. 

She glanced up and looked at William, who was still sleeping. The desire to slap him came up to her again. 

But she reluctantly gave up the idea. 

Instead, Ruan Yifei saved screenshots of their conversation, from the first message to the most recent ones.
