Adaeze's

One week after the visit to the herbalist

I decide to pay ifeoma a visit since she is my only friend,and the only that is not calling me a monster, I now walk around wearing a face mask.

It only takes 20 minutes to get to ifeoma house, I can perceive the aroma of her mom stew and the sound of her dad singing lessons echoing through the street.

I really love attending her dads singing class,his method of teaching is so nice and I can sing so well now thanks to his class.

The voice of ifeoma mom brought me back to the present

Good afternoon ma "I greeted"

How are you doing lovely "she said"

Am fine mama am sorry I didn't realize you are here already "I smiled"

It fine lovely but are you sure you are fine, you know am like a mother to you right "she said"

Am sorry mama but I just can't stop thinking about my mother, I have not seen or hear anything about her all this year and that aside mama look at me I keep getting ugly every time,I have tried all drugs,herbal tonic and there is nothing to show for it mama am really tired "sobbing"

I understand you perfectly sweetie am sure everything will get better soon trust me "she assured"

I am always grateful for having you and ifeoma beside me, I wonder how life would have been if I only have my stepmother to look at "I said"

Forget about her I heard the prince are back and the palace are in need of maids so am thinking you and ifeoma should apply or what do you think "she asked"

As long as I will be free from my wicked step mother I will gladly work in the palace, thank you so much mama I will go and apply now "I said"

Few weeks later

The enlistment list came in and both ifeoma and adaeze name was among those that were picked.

Adaeze told her dad about it and also beg him to help persuade her stepmother so she can allow her to go work in the palace.

Her dad thought about it and agree since letting her go will stop him from seeing his ugly face, and he won't have to be worried about her stepmother maltreating her.

Her stepmother was also happy that she has gotten rid of her, she will finally have her husband to her and her daughter alone and won't be worried about adaeze sharing his property with them.

Adaeze stepmother gave her the permission to leave and warn her sternly that she must never in any way sing she told her she sounds like a frog and they might chase her from the palace if the discover she has a terrible voice and a terrible face.
