Rebirth

The sun was high up in the sky, scorching the earth below. It was mid summer, July 26. In front of a large, well known microfinance company, gathered a large crowd. They weren't seeking loans, no, they were gathered behind police tape to witness a gruesome sight. The sight of a corpse, it was disfigured beyond recognition, but one could tell it belonged to a man. The size, even the formal suit and tie it still had on gave away a fraction of it's identity. It was clearly a young man, so why was it lying there lifeless? To answer that, we'll have to go back in time.

...

Have you ever thought about what comes after death? like going to the afterlife, or maybe even getting reincarnated in a different world with magic and stuff like that. well that's what I belived at first, that is, until I died.

My name is Junichiro Amamiya. I'm 29 years old, a college graduate, with a good job and decent paycheck, in my life I I'm what you'd call an average nobody. I worked really hard in school, avoided social activities in an attempt to create extra study time and the result of all my hard work and dedication was a boring ass job as a financial analyst in a big company. I eventually climbed up the ranks becoming a senior officer. My seniors picked on me, while I picked on my juniors, it was the only way to hang on to my sanity in the business world, but as we all know nothing lasts forever, I can still clearly remember the exact words my piggy boss said while looking me in the eyes. I'd just received an urgent summon to his office.

" Amamiya-san. " he said

" yes sir. " I responded.

I was carefully picking my words as I spoke to him. A habit I'd picked up from my time in the business world.

" first, I need you to understand, that this hurts me more than it hurts you. "

" I beg your pardon. "

At this point I was starting to get confused, did I do something?

" we thank you for all your hard work over these past few years, but it seems we no longer require your services. "

The hell, did I just get fired? He fired me. "This pig of a boss fired me!" Is what I'd like to say as I flew into a rage and punched his face, but in reality, I wasn't the type to throw a tantrum at every little thing.

" I see, so that's how it is. "

How could I have been so blind, it was only a matter of time. I was inevitably going to be replaced by someone better.

" you can start packing up anytime soon " he said

" oh, can I get out now? " I asked.

" excuse you. "

" well technically, I'm fired so I don't have to butter you up anymore. "

Thinking back, I can't believe I worked for this pig for this past 7 years. That's right, my boss was a pig. he's fat, short, and always sweaty, and his thick lips just make me wanna punch him.

" well you are correct. " he answered.

" boss, I'm as good as dead with no job and no where to turn to, so would you grant me one final wish? " I asked

" if it's reasonable, then yes. " he answered

" there's something I've always wanted to say to your face, can I say it now? "

" alright go ahead. "

" boss, " I said letting out a sigh while lifting my middle finger up " fuck you. "

" security, please escort this man out "

" man I feel so much better now " I said as I ran into the elevator avoiding security, rode to the top floor. Both my parents are late, and I don't have anyone to go crying to for financial assistance, and frankly, I wasn't the type to beg, not because I'm proud, it's not that. I just really hate being indebted to people, or maybe what I really hate are people themselves. I'm not like other people, not because I think of myself as superior to them, but because I view everything logically, I saw life as a game that I had to win, so for as long as I can remember, I've done everything I could in order to win. One might call it selfish, but I've always looked out for myself, and myself alone, but life has other plans for me. At this point, it was game over for me, so I did what any gamer would do when they cornered: give up.

I decided to give up and end it all.

I thought to myself that if I did get a second chance I'm going live my life to the fullest, but I guess this is just the wishful thinking of a mentally stressed man.

And without further ado I jumped off a 37 storey building my fall took about 7 to 10 seconds before I hit the ground, but those few seconds felt like the longest seconds of my life. As I plummeted to my doom, my suit fluttered, and my necklace came out of my shirt. It was a simple string of thread which held an eerie black ring. I instantly regretted taking the jump as I thought of ways I could have dealt with my problem other than jumping of a building, there was no more helpless feeling than falling, I didn't feel a sensation of peace as I approached oblivion, I instead experienced the strongest terror I had ever felt, and the greatest sense of urgency to grab onto something that would stop my fall.

Then the moment I hit the ground, the impact completely destroyed my body, as I landed on my feet, I felt every single bone in my body shatter as my flesh exploded, every nerve created maximum sensation of pain, all of which was be sensed by my brain in the seconds before it too exploded.

In other words, my death was quick, but the final sensation of my life was a concentration of all the worst pains I had ever felt, or could imagine, all at once, before the darkness took over.

I was sure I was dead, I couldn't see, hear, smell, taste or feel anything. All my five senses had disappeared. Then I felt a presence, no it wasn't "a" presence. What I felt wasn't a single entity, it consisted of numerous individuals, like a hive. I couldn't feel my body anymore, but I could feel them. The aure they exuded, it was pure evil.

" w-who are you? " I asked.

The eerie presence answered with a coarse voice.

" MY NAME IS LEGION, FOR WE ARE MANY. "

That was where it ended. After that, the presence disappeared.

I couldn't hear or feel anything, but I began to see a light. I was probably in a hospital but what does it matter my chances of survival are less than 1 percent.

" you can do it, push "

" hrrmmmmmm!! "

I can't believe I'm gonna die like this.

" he's coming out "

" hrrmmmmmm! "

what the hell is up with that light? can someone turn it off? and is it me or is it getting brighter?

" he's out. "

" thank goodness. "

Soon after the light covered my entire field of vision.

Wait I can see?

I also felt a pair of hands lift me up.

How is that even possible how do you do that. You know I'm a grown man.

I could hear voices and as I strained my eyes to see. I saw a nurse and a woman with a satisfied look on her face looking like my mom on her old portrait. Wait a sec... My mom.

in that moment I realized a concept as silly as reincarnated existed, but it seemed I had been reborn in my own body. Or more precisely, I'd travelled back in time.
