"I did it."
The bright white light emanating from the normal steel sword. The source of the light was the mana enveloped around it acting as a covering of it.
[Mana Envelopment - Element: Null]
And it was complete, the magic for my sword - Mana Envelopment. It came from a single thought - How should I make my weapon stronger?
The simplest answer was to get a strong weapon - mana saber, but it would take a long time. I need to be proficient with enchantments to make it.
Then for the moment, how to make my weapon strong enough for me to fight hard and tough enemies?
Unlike my body, I can't infuse mana into an object without enchantment. And that's when I got the idea.
If I can't enhance it from inside, then I can do it outside, right? Spread and cover the mana around the sword, and control the intensity of mana and change it according to the situation.
The mana swirled around the sword, and it was a beautiful sight. But I didn't have the time to admire that. Miria was airborne and the tiger's attack was about to hit her.
"Compress it… And then…"
The mana started to compress and become sharper. And then I swung it towards the direction of the attack. It might seem futile to swing a sword from afar, but do you think I am an idiot?
The compressed mana shot out of the sword taking the form of a slash flew towards the tiger's attack. And it was a direct hit!
"Raaaww!"
The slash sliced it's leg, and it's other leg was also damaged. Tiger is a quadrupedal animal, and having both of its front legs damaged is a huge win!
The pain made the tiger unbalanced and it fell down sideways with loud cries.
'I have done my job. It's time to do yours.'
I turned my eyes and met Miria's gaze. This battle was dangerous enough, but it made me close enough with her to talk with gazes.
'Alright. Leave it to me.'
I could see her reply through her eyes. When did I learn to read people's eyes?
My body calmed down after recognizing the fact I am out of danger.
The mana and adrenaline dissipated, and the suppressed pain burst out at once.
"Damn! This pain…"
Even for me, it was unbearable. The pain was all over the body, while the most aching parts were my legs and right hand.
My eyes started to become fuzzy, and my mind started to blank out.
'I am blanking out!'
I bit my lips, trying to hold it out but despite having a great mental strength, my physique is still of a child. I couldn't bear it.
My grip loosened, and the sword fell down. My body wasn't listening to me and started to rest down.
'Miria…'
I turned my head and looked at Miria's heroic figure slashing down the demon tiger from above. And that's the last glimpse I saw before I fainted out.
—
"Where am I..."
My eyes slowly opened, revealing an unfamiliar place. I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my body, making movement difficult.
"Don't move. You haven't fully recovered yet."
A familiar voice reached my ears, and I turned to see Miria standing near the door, her own body wrapped in bandages like mine.
The fact both of us are alive, it means we won. The first fight against the calamity class beast, and I came out alive.
'I feel like I can beat anyone.'
But that confidence was short-lived. Because I doubt whether I can defeat Miria as well.
'Even though I was also in reinforcement, she had greater control over her body. And her experience is much greater than mine.'
If it's a fight of death, I am sure to win. A surprise attack with overclock, and victory is mine.
But a normal spar is hard for me despite all that buffs.
All the time I felt I am way ahead of the protagonist. But this fight was an eye opener.
'He could fight Miria on equal terms. Can I do it?'
Let alone Miria, I am sure he can easily defeat a calamity class demon with magic despite the fact those demons have strong resistance to magic.
"Kurt! Are you listening, Kurt?!"
"Huh? Ah! Yeah, what happe— Who are they?"
Hearing Miria's loud call, I came out of my thoughts and found some new figures beside her.
Before I could find out about them, both of them came in and grabbed my hands. And then grabbed my hands, and with tears started to fall from their eyes.
"Thank you. Thank you for saving my daughter, Kurt."
The man's words made my eyes widened. He is Miria's father!
Then…
'She must be her mother.'
I was shocked. I didn't expect Miria to have a family. I thought she must be an orphan and became a demon hunter as her only option but the reality seems to be different.
'This is a good chance to impress her parents! And if all went well…'
Hehehe… I might be able to get her hand from her parents!
"Uncle and Aunty, you don't have to bow. And she also saved me."
I tried to make them stand up, but they didn't budge a little.
"You don't have to be humble, son. I am really, really thankful to you for saving my precious daughter."
Her mother grabbed my palms within her and cried with a thankful smile.
Looking at her, I remembered my own mother. And with that, I also remembered that I forgot to write her letters.
"She won't be angry, right?"
