The cyclopses looked at Zeus, their emotions which they initially held when they saw us remained. One of the cyclops whose eyes were filled with malice allowed a sneer to decorate this face as he looked down at Zeus. The air became cold as tensions began to arise between Zeus and the sneering cyclops.
A deep, hearty laughter filled the room. It was the type of laughter that made your skin crawl and illustrated lack of any jovial feeling. " I see our titan brother acquired offspring in the period of time we have been rotting in this dump! Ha ha ha. And they are not one or two but six! They sure have been busy. Bet I would have been that busy if I was free...but off course after I kil'm." The sneering cyclops spoke venomously.
" look how small they're Those titans must be shamed to call them their kin or they've just gotten week all this time." Another cyclops, whose face was covered with scars aallowed his face to reveal unrestrained malice. He spoke jeeringly
The other cyclopses looked at us with no intention to speak. Zeus forced a smile onto his face and spoke directly to our uncles, " Hello uncles. It is nice to finally meet you. Would you mind joining us in a war with the titans?"
The mixed looks on our uncles merged to become looks of curiosity shared by all. They were curious. That was good. Seeing this as an idea opportunity to speak, Zeus continued, " We may not be...giants, but we are undoubtedly strong. After all we are the kin of the strong. Additionally we are offering you freedom. So, I ask once more, will you join us in battle."
Contemplative looks began to blossom from one cyclops to another. Then the shortest cyclops among the cyclopses spoke up, " Why d'you wanna wage war? Also what's in it for us if we join ya?"
Zeus didn't falter at the barrage of questions. He stood firm and allowed a mocking smirk to grace his face. He stepped forward provocatively.
"Let me ask you, who are you to start making demands of the same beings who are offering to free you. Is freedom not the greatest reward?"
The cyclopses were silent for a moment then the room was filled with boisterous laughter that reverberated through the room. I was partially shocked but I did nor allow a single trace to be visible on my face. I took a deep breath and looked at the cyclopses faces. They were amused.
" He's got a point...ha ha ha ha, and who cares about their reason for wanting to fight their father... he he he" A cyclops who was chained at the corner chuckled, " I like their spirit, we said that we'd help the ones who freed us, so why you all acting so high and mighty?"
There laughter stopped upon the ogres comment. Then it started again with more vigour and chants of agreement. All eyes were on the six of us as the boisterous laughter continued. However the eyes were sharp and calculating. A vast contrast to the laughter. Then I heard a voice in the darkness softly speaking.
" How will you free us?"
It sounded like a child's voice, a voice that had not been privileged with the essence of water in a long time. It seemed I was not the only one who heard it, for the cyclopses who were previously rumbustiously laughing suddenly stopped and focused their attention to the voice on the darkness.
My curiosity peeked, however I remembered the ominous silhouettes I had previously seen in the foreboding darkness. I was hesitant.
But that was clearly a child's voice. A child was locked up in this solemn prison with scary creatures all around. I had to do something. I did not allow myself time for further contemplation or hesitation. I immediately willed another ball of light. This time it was brighter. I willed it to go towards the daunting darkness wherein horrifying figures were chained like my cyclops unless.
Monsters. That is what I beheld once the light touched the grotesque creatures illuminated by the light. They were big. No. Big was an understatement, they were mammoth. A trio of mammoth monsters . Two of then were chained horrifically, with their bodies curving unnaturally like rainbows . The two had their legs chained on one side of the room and their hands chained on the other side of the room. Finally, their necks were collared to the ground. The third one was chained to the floor with his legs curving abnormally to fit in the room and chained at the jagged ceiling. The third one's arms were encased in metal bindings that completely enveloped his arms and the chains were attached to chains that were attached to the walls.
It was a sorry sight to Behold. However, at the same time it was terrifying. Theses monstrous creatures had not one , not two , but fifty heads. Fifty. And they were heads of varying ages. Additionally , their arms that were chained were not the number normal creatures had on average, no, those creature had a number that far exceeded normal. One hundred. They each packed the lofty number of o e hundred arms.
Taking a sharp intake of breath I hurriedly took a cautious step back , as did all my siblings. This was not expected. I hurriedly scanned the monsters surro7ndings with the intention to withdraw my ball of light post haste upon finding the child. I did not have the stomach to continue witnessing such a horror.
Not seeing the child, I began to withdraw my orb of light, I heard the child's voice again.
"How will you free us?"
This time the soft voice enunciated each word with clarity and meaning. Hesitantly, I stepped forward. " Child where are you" I questioned as I willed the orb to grow even brighter. Hestia also stepped forward, pointing me in my urgent search for the child who spoke earlier.
Our search continued to no avail. Then one of the monster's chained heads suddenly started laughing without feeling. It turned to Hestia and I. The head laughing had the face of a silver haired old man whose right eyes was sealed shut by a long cut that extended past his cheek littered with wrinkles and ended on his Adams apple.
" He is right here." He sneered as showed us the child's location with his eyes.
We all directed our gazes to the direction one of the heads was showing. Behold! One of the monster's heads had the face of an innocent child. It was a young boy's face, with soft supple skin that glowed in the faint light that reached it. Immediately, I knew this was the owner of the voice that inquired how we would free the captors, but...we only came to save our uncles. These monstrous creatures were not part of the deal.
Upon seeing the child's face and gaining some semblance of bravery, Zeus walked passed Hestia and I and stared down the creatures. " We only came to save our uncles, " he venomously spat, " You. You were not part of the deal."
A pregnant silence filled the room. Suddenly, a screeching cackling filled the room replacing the prior silence. I turned towards the direction of the screeching cacl8nk to view an yet another Old countenance. It was the countenance of a wrinkled old woman. The faces beat had faded with age. Exam8ning her I hopped I would never end up looking like her when I aged.
" We are not part of the deal? Really? Are we not related?" She asked in a voice filled with rhetoric provocation.
A look of confusion overwhelmed the faces of not only myself but also my siblings. A sigh escaped one of the cyclopses chained to the wall. " Those are Hecatoncheires. They are your uncles."
