Chapter 25

"I will be going to work tomorrow." I lie beside Nina on the bed who is on her phone.

"But I thought your work leave will end next week". She sits up with displeasure on her face.

"Yeah, but my services are needed." I reply my girlfriend as I close my eyes.

"I will be lonely when you go to work; why don't you resume on your scheduled date." She tries to convince me.

"I received a call from the Medical Supritendant this evening that Doctor Elsbeth gave birth yesterday and I have to fill in for her. That's why the sudden change of plans."

"You're always concerned about the sick. It's not as if they're important people in the society. Just common people who want to stress our lives." Nina continues

"These common people are the reason for your Father's success. These same people voted your father as Governor. You're always looking down on people. Always remember life is full of surprises. You never know when you might need help". I open my eyes and stare at her in disbelief.

"Anyways this Friday we've been invited to a party at the headquarters of MedHub. The deal with the Chinese investors concerning the partnership in manufacturing of medical equipments for our company has been successful so we'll be celebrating it."

"Okay," she responds and I realize she's nonchalant about the advice I gave to her.

I turn over and cover myself with the blanket and drift off to sleep, leaving Nina still on her phone.
