Chapter 1

Every two years I look forward to Christmas, because I would be spending it with my grandparents. I am an only child so it's kind of a lonely spending it with just my mom and dad. Last year I spent it with my dad's old man and ever loving granny Nancy. This year I'll be spending it with my Lolo and Lola in the Philippines.

I hopped off the plane and raced with my dad to the airport, he's just as excited as I am. The dusty and warm weather welcomed me as I heard mom let out a sneeze, she's too sensitive with the changing of weathers which obviously she's not as fond of travelling like dad and me.

"You'll be alright dear. I'll go get a cab ready"

As we ride to Lolo and Lola's farm house in Ormoc I watch every establishments and whatever we pass. Don't get me wrong, it's been two years since I last visited this place.

"Look over there Esme' they made a huge Christmas tree also this year"

Dad also wander his gazes and both of us had our eyes glued on where mom was pointing. I stutter as I didn't know what accurate words would fit to describe it!

It was astonishing! So extravagant!

"Wow, this one is way better than what we last saw right dewdrop?"

"Of course it's way better! This is awesome!"

"Right?"

Driving to Lolo and Lola's place at night is a bit scary, I had to exchange seat with dad so I'm in the middle. It always feels like something would grab me from the window even if it's close since it's so dark and we have to pass through a kilometer of just trees and tall grass with no street lights, not a house nor a sign of a soul. I sleep my worries hoping that the moment I wake up there'll be lights on the streets or much better if we would've arrived at my grandparent's place. I put on my earphones, played a white noise and dozed off.

I woke up feeling fuzzy. I rubbed my eyes and had my jaw dropped at the scenery. It's not even a day yet but this place already surprised me so much. This place is so calm…a tree?
