I’m Not Your Friend!

Haze was about let out a disappointed sigh when the cave began to shake, the roof broke open and light streamed into the cave.

"Wait!", He shouted when he remembered his sword was still lodged in the spider-king's head. "Let me pick my sword".

But it was too late, they were immediately transported back to the arena.

The crowd gasped when they saw Haze covered in black slime. He shrugged them off and continued walking till he got to the middle of the arena.

"Ladies and gentlemen!", The ref shouted. "Your winners of the tournament and the new...."

He was suddenly interrupted by Hades raising his hands.

"I've changed my mind", Hades said with a wicked smile. "There can only be one winner".

The crowd gasped when he said that and they all turned to look at Haze and Qimona.

Haze fixed his gaze on Qimona, watching her intently.

I have to kill her afterall, He thought.

He looked at Hades again, Hades smirked at him as if he was daring him to do something or say something.

Haze looked away frustrated. I don't even have my sword right now, how am I supposed to kill her?

He breathed slowly and looked at Qimona, the wide-eyed look was back on face, it was almost like she knew she would be dead very soon.

I shouldn't underestimate her though, she's clearly stronger and faster than she seems.

The atmosphere in the arena was tense, the whole place was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop. The crowd waited with baited breaths for one of them to make a move.

"We don't have to do this", Qimona's voice carried like a bell in the quiet arena.

She stepped forward towards Haze. "We don't have to kill each other, Hades needs a heir and now he can either have two or nothing".

Haze thought about it, it was true that Hades needed a heir badly and might be willing to bend to their will.

But what if he doesn't? The thought rang in his head.

He looked at Qimona again. I'm willing to risk it for her, He realized to his surprise.

"Okay", He said simply and the crowd gasped.

Hades' smile did not falter, he watched the proceedings with curious eyes.

Qimona stood directly in front of him and gave him her hand, he took it.

Then he felt the knife pierce his side.

A sharp pang of pain rushed through Haze's body as Qimona drove the knife further into his body.

He collapsed to his knees and coughed out blood.

This is what I get for trust, The voice in his head said.

Haze felt his eyes start to close and darkness started to cloud his vision.

In my next life, I'll never trust again, I promise to be as ruthless as possible, He felt his breathing start to slow down.

Then Haze remembered the gem in his pocket, the time stone Hades gifted him earlier on.

"It can only be used once", Gatti had said to him.

Hades reached into his pocket and brought out the stone, with the last piece of strength in him, he smashed it on the ground.

Green vapor flowed out and surrounded him.

And then he was standing again. He looked around him and recognized the scene, he had just told Qimona okay and she was walking to him.

He waited till she was in his front and she offered him her hand, this time he saw the kinfe coming, he stopped it, took the knife from her and plunged it into her heart.

Qimona went limp instantly and fell to the ground.

Haze stood over her and watched as she gasped for breath, her frail body trying to fight for whatever little life it had left in it.

No mercy, He said internally.

Then he began to kick her head in.

He didn't stop till her head was mush, then Haze did something that shocked the crowd, shocked himself and even shocked Hades.

He bent down, scooped her blood and licked it.

The ref rushed to him and pulled him back.

"Ladies and gentlemen, your winner and the new heir of hades", The ref said shakily.

Hades stumbled back, he felt like throwing up but he held it in and held his head high.

"Come to me", Hades' sultry voice cut through the arena.

Haze started the long walk up to Hades' throne. Once he was there, Hades motioned for him to kneel.

"I hereby crown you, Haze, prince of the underworld and heir to my throne", Hades said, he picked up a sword that lay beside his throne and gave it to Haze.

"This is Harpagos, the sword that can cut through anything in this world. I hereby gift it to you".

Haze collected the sword, his head still bowed.

"Rise", Hades commanded and Haze did, the rest of court then bowed to Haze.

Hades took his seat on the throne. "I know you must be tired, go to sleep".

Haze bowed once again and took his leave. Gatti was soon beside him.

"Well, you did it", He said to Gatti. "You found a heir for Hades".

Gatti allowed himself a slight smile. "I suppose I did, plus he was very impressed with you".

"He was?", Haze asked.

"Yes, your quick thinking with the time stone, your ruthlessness when betrayed, he said you reminded him of his younger self", Gatti said.

"He's still his younger self", Haze scoffed.

"Only physically", Gatti said.

Haze scoffed again.

"Don't be so eager to dismiss his struggles, seeing as you now have the same gift or curse depending on how you see it", Gatti said with a smile.

Haze stopped walking. "What gift?"

"Immortality of course", Gatti replied.

Haze couldn't believe his ears. "I'm immortal now?", He asked Gatti.

"Yes, you became immortal as soon as Hades proclaimed you his heir", Gatti explained.

"So you're saying I can never die?", Haze asked.

"It's more complicated than that", Gatti explained. "There are some weapons that can cause you to enter a permanent resting state, you may not be dead in the sense but you won't be alive either".

"So I'm mostly immortal", Haze said.

Gatti's smile grew. "Something like that yes".

They had gotten to Haze's room by now so Gatti bade goodnight and let him go to sleep.

Haze studied the profile and decided to increase his attributes with his stat points. He knew strength was important but so was speed and if he wasn't fast enough, he wouldn't be able to take down some monsters or opponents.

Haze nodded with satisfaction, he was finally understanding the system, it would make him stronger than every other contestant and if he kept following the system's orders, he would continue to level up.
