Chapter 30
Van sent a text to Jake.
We made it, Hunter’s in surgery.
Almost immediately, a text pinged back.
Be there in 20.
Not knowing what to do for the next twenty minutes until Hunter’s family arrived, he decided to call Matty. After only a half a ring, Matty groggily answered.
“Van, are you okay?” Matty all but shouted into the phone.
“Yeah, sorry to call you so late. I only realized the time when you answered sounding half asleep.”
“Van, dude, are you all right? Is Hunter? Where are you? Do you need me to come get you?”
Question after question kept flying from Matty.
Van finally chucked and said, “I’m better now.”
Matty, sounding confused, muttered, “What?”
“Sorry, I’m fine. A lot has happened since we left. We were in Blue Hills or some place, meeting with the FBI over the guy who threatened me and Hunter. The FBI was ambushed, and there was a gun fight, and, oh, my God, Hunter’s in surgery. He got shot, and I’m scared and…” Van sobbed.
