Chapter 33 - Against the beast

Ulf was in the entourage of total darkness and the eye enhancement didn't have much meaning here in order to make some sense out of the occurring fight. He needed to be much closer, but then he would be noticed by the two beasts.

However, other senses were operated as diligently as possible. Through hearing the sound of the roars, footsteps, and collision of both sides, Ulf could calculate their approximate positions and conditions.

At the start, Ulf was on the left corner of the cave, but then he noticed the lion was moving back in his direction.

When he decided to join in, instantly jumped on the right side and ran toward the beast ahead of him. Like a lightning strike in a summer storm, Ulf appeared next to the creature, which was revealed as it got in his field of vision.

The beast was almost two times bigger than Ulf and had dark-brown fur all over its giant body. That's right, Ulf aimed the bear. As the strongest of the presented two beasts, the short-faced bear was the most dangerous. Its massive body contained enormous power and the long legs were proof of the astonishing speed.

Ulf didn't have the luxury of scanning the bear from head to foot, but there wasn't a need to be a scientist to mark several bruises on its different parts of bodies.

'Here you go, big teddy!' Ulf thrust Aeglos at the short-faced bear.

Rather than exchange blows, this big guy was already enjoying beating its opponent down. Ulf couldn't see the detailed sight of the cave lion, but it wasn't hard to guess that nothing was going the positive way for this majestic creature.

At that time, Ulf's out-of-the-blue appearance caught the bear unprepared and became vulnerable in front of the ruthless strike that pierced its neck. He felt a little elated due to the precise hit.

However, his facial expression changed too. Originally, he expected that Aeglos would freely make a hole in the bear's body.

However, Its thick fur, tough skin and strong muscles around the neck saved the giant creature from a swift death. The stream of blood started flowing, but it wasn't something that could threaten the bear's life in a short period of time.

'I don't want to imagine how scary this creature will become if it evolves on the higher grades or stages.' Ulf was amazed.

After seeing Ulf closer, evidently the dark-brown giant remembered the human, who followed the beasts from behind as they were hunting the young moose down.

Even though, at that time, the bear, like other predators, disregarded a little, puny human hunter.

Ulf could see the reason behind those creatures' arrogance. It had been a long time since the strong hunter teams from the Hadda tribe had come here to collect the resources from the middle or inner part of the forest.

As for why things went like that, he was told that some parts of the forest in the east or west direction contained the same level of danger as the inner part of the southern forest, but with more supplies to cultivate.

In the end, all these factors worked in Ulf's favor.

The infuriated short-faced bear swung its colossal-sized claw toward Ulf. He knew such a crashing attack would dive him into several chunks of meat. But Ulf was ready for that kind of development beforehand.

Ulf strained all his upper body muscles to stop his second attempt to give the strongest being inside the cave a deathly wound. He also simultaneously mobilized the inner qi in his legs and jumped behind.

The beast missed the hateful human, but it was so close that if needed Ulf could give a detailed description of the dirtiness of the claw. He not only felt nervous but also excited. In his past life, Ulf came across countless life and death situations. The current set of circumstances became a kind of reminder of these events for him.

The bear left the cave lion, which appeared as if it was standing on the verge of death and didn't have any strength left to stand up. At that moment, Its priority was a little human, who had an unnaturally strong power, inappropriate for his tiny size.

It screamed at Ulf and dashed forward and began using its claws to blast him. Seeing no hope of defending from the bear's blows, Ulf ran backwards.

Before interfering with the fight between the beasts, Ulf roughly measured the cave. This helped him calculate the distance he was covering and at the same time how his opponent was getting near. Because of that, Maneuvering in the limited space became easier. If not that method, orienting in a closed place without almost any light, would be poor fantasy.

After avoiding the claw a few times, which was carrying immense danger for him, Ulf intended to fight back himself too. Evading for a long time would tire him out and make the process of using inner qi for his physique more unbearable.

As for his merciless chaser, its vitality was like an inexhaustible machine, or else it would already be a dead body at the bottom of a cliff. However, it was far from the peak condition and that had been reassuring Ulf. In the end, he was able to cut it several times, but comparing his first attack to its neck, all of them were minor injuries.

Soon, outside the fog started fading bit by bit and more and more light was brought up on every being inside. The scene appeared as if the god split the sky to show his creations the way to survival in utter darkness.

As he had gotten engaged against the short-faced bear, shortly found out that the ferocious enemy's sight was worse than his, when he was using enhancement. Thanks to this occasion, the giant beast had a very hard time accurately aiming at the fast-moving, small human.

Finally, the bear could see that irritating and hateful human more clearly. The bloodthirsty eyes were inspecting Ulf and wished they could cut him down right away just with the gaze.

Instead of swinging the claws, the bear jumped toward Ulf to flatten him on the ground with its entire weight and power. Because of sudden upcoming changes, a fast solution was needed, even if it was very risky.

Ulf didn't run anymore, leaned and leapt forward on the right side. Due to this action, he emerged from his shadow next to the bear's back.

During the fight, as he had been observing the beast's body, discovered a few severe wounds. One of them was placed on its rear.

'The culprit must be that male cave lion.' Though Ulf.

As he hit the wound with Aeglos, this time the spear went inside more smoothly, and even reached the organs and destroyed some of them.

It seemed, this strike was the last thing the short-faced bear could endure and after giving the painful roar, lifelessly fell to the ground.
