By the Beach

As the morning crept up, everyone realized only then the full extent of the damage.

While skyscrapers still braved the elemental forces, they were mere shadows of their former selves. Metal beams exposed, windows shattered. Older buildings had collapsed overnight, shaking the earth regularly. Over the districts hung biting smoke. The air was filled with the stench of burned meat.

There were no exact numbers on how many had perished as angels continuously swooped down, attacking any moving thing they spotted. Thus, many corpses still littered the streets, unclaimed. The local networks were full of missed person lists. This dampened the mood considerably.

When the group awoke, the atmosphere was tense. Not only had the refugees lost contact with their loved ones, but they also were ridden with anxiety. It was not a matter of if but when the angels would also attack the bordering districts.
