Chapter 1

Staring at the road ahead of me makes me calm and takes my stress away. I looked at Midnight who's driving the car we're in.

"What are you thinking?" I asked and held his hand that's resting at the clutch.

"Our wedding" he answered and glanced at me while smiling.

"Babe, you just proposed to me a while ago" I said and chuckled which made him laugh too.

"There's nothing wrong with that, I'm just excited to marry you. I can't wait to wake up and sleep with you by my side. I can't wait to raise little Midnight and Little Sunshine's" he said and kissed my hands.

"Don't get too excited babe, we need to tell our parents first that we are engaged."

"Of course, we will meet them after our vacation, I'll handle everything so don't worry about anything else. Just take good care of yourself." he said and focused on driving.

"You should sleep first, I know that you are tired from our hiking. I'll just wake you up when we get there" I did what I was told because I'm really tired and sleepy.

After awhile I woke up because I heard him cursing beside me.

"What's wrong babe?" I asked when I noticed that he's so tensed while driving.

"Nothing. Did you fastened your seatbelt?" He asked that made me frown.

"Yes, why?"

"Nothing. Hold on tight." When he said that, that's when it sinks in to me that our car lost its brake.

"Babe, I'm scared"

"Don't be, just trust me" he said and holds my hand

"Try the hand break" I said but when he did, it didn't work.

"Close your eyes." He turned to me and smiled.

"Why?"

"Just do it okay?"

While trembling in fear I closed my eyes while grasping tightly in my seatbelt. I heard a click sound and the moment I opened my eyes, he's already hugging me tightly.

"I love you, always. I'm sorry. I promise you, you'll be okay. I will not bid my goodbye. I will love you until the end. Until we meet again my love" I saw how our car draws near a tree. I hugged him back while my tears are streaming down my face.

"I love you" I whispered on his ears before closing my eyes.

I jolted awake gasping for air and my cheeks are wet because of the tears that won't stop falling from my eyes.

I rest my back at the head board of my bed and hugged both of my knees. I buried my face in it while sobbing, letting my tears flow. I always dreamt about the accident since I woke up from the coma but as soon as I woke up I will only remember some of it.

My doctors explained to me that I suffered from selective amnesia where some parts of my memories are erased due to the accident I encountered 3 years ago. But every night, I will suffer from nightmares that even my doctor can't do anything to stop it from coming.

Because of my amnesia I lost my memory from my junior years to college. When I woke up I thought I'm just in high school but it turns out that I'm already working as an editor in chief at the most famous publishing house here at our hometown.

After calming myself down I decided to go to a café near my condo. I got up and changed my clothes. I put on my coat because it's cold at night and put everything I needed at my back pack. I checked my watch and I'm right that it's just twelve midnight, I only slept for 2 hours.

After 5 minutes walk I arrived at the café. Where there are no single costumer aside from me.

"Good morning ma'am" the security guard greeted me with his wide smile that will make everyone smile as well.

"Good morning" I said and walked towards the cashier who already knew me because I constantly go here.

"The usual ma'am?" The cashier asked and I nodded, still smiling.

"Alright. One affogato with chocolate chips and one ham and cheese baguette and extra cheese."

"actually, can you make it two affogato?" I asked while fishing my purse out of my bag.

"sure, anything else?"

"no, thanks" I said and handed her my card.

"I'll serve it after 5 minutes" she said and I nodded. I headed to the veranda of the coffee shop where the view is breath taking, you can see city lights from up here but there's only one table for four. I got disappointed when I saw that someone was already sitting there. I guess I'm wrong when I said that I'm the only one here.

"Hi, I'm sorry for bothering you but I wonder if this seat taken?" I shyly asked.

"No" he simply said and stared at me.

"Well, I'm kinda used to sit here and write because it's relaxing. Do you mind if I sit here? But if you want to be alone, it's perfectly fine."

"No, not at all" he said and smiled at me. I pulled the chair across him and put my bag at the vacant chair beside me. I plugged my earphones and played my playlist for the story that I'm writing. Whenever I'm starting a new book, I always make a new playlist of songs that will help me to write the flow of my story easily.

I'm so drawn in writing that I didn't notice that my food was already served. If it wasn't for this man I will not be able to notice it at all. He poked me and pointed at the food infront of me. I unplug my earphone before glancing at him.

"Thank you" I said and smiled lightly.

"Don't mention it" he smiled back and sips on his own coffee.

"Excuse me" I said and walks toward the cashier.

"One ham and cheese baguette please" I said and handed the cashier my payment.

"I'll serve it on your table ma'am" she said and handed me back my card. When I got back at our table I pushed my plate infront of him.

"What's this?" He asked that almost made me roll my eyes.

"It's a ham and cheese baguette, a type of sandwich" I said and shrugged my shoulders.

"I know that it's a sandwich. But why are you putting it infront of me?"

"It's my way of thanking you because you let me sit here with you at my favourite spot" I said and smiled.

"You don't have too but I will still accept this because it's a blessing. Thank you" he said and chuckled that made me chuckled also.

"By the way, we haven't introduced ourselves yet" he added and cleared his throat. "My name is Black" he said and offered me his hand which I accepted whole heartily. I found it interesting that his name is black but he's wearing an all while outfit, from his long sleeves polo to his shoes. He looks so neat.

"I'm Elise." I said and shook his cold hands.

"Here's your sandwich ma'am" the waitress said and put the plate infront of me.

"Thank you" I smiled at her and let go of Black's hand.

"Anyway, what are you doing here at this time? You are too focused on your laptop"

"I'm working on my manuscript" I said and saved the files I'm working with so that I can eat my sandwich.

"At this time? You are weird" he said that made me laugh.

"How about you? What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"just hanging out and reading" he said and showed me the book he was reading since I got here.

"You are weird just like me. Who's in the right mind will read a book and hang out at this hour?" I asked while chuckling.

"Okay, we are even" he said and chuckled with me.

Both of us went silent and just continued on what we're doing.

When the sun rises, that's when I noticed that he was already sleeping. He used his arms as his pillow. I'm debating with myself if I should wake him up or just leave him here. But If he stay here longer he will have a stiff neck. So I gently shook his arm to wake him up.

"Hey, Black, the Sun's up. I think you should go home and rest." I gently said and continued to fix my things when I noticed that he opened his eyes.

"Morning" he said using his deep voice that made me froze for a second.

"m-morning" I replied and zipped my bag.

"You're going now?" He said and stretched his arms while yawning.

"Yes, it's already 7 in the morning" I said and picked up my bag.

"Oh you are right" he said and got up. He fixed his hair and picked up his book.

"I'll go ahead. Nice meeting you" I said and bowed like a prince in fairytales.

"Nice meeting you too." He said and smiled at me.
