Three years later
Kaden flipped the eggs and then checked on the toast. Coffee had brewed, and it was ready. He cut up some sausages he defrosted earlier and placed them in Ginger’s bowl, then using a plastic spoon, he mixed it with the wet dog food.
“I heard him upstairs,” Quinn said. “He should be down soon, KPop.”
Kaden threw the used plastic spoon in the garbage. “I can’t believe you just don’t want to call us Papa and Poppy anymore. Now, he’s DPop, and me? I sound like an Asian cereal.”
“Korean band. All the girls in school seem to be into them.”
Kaden checked the place setting on the table. There was a dark napkin over David’s fork, which in turn was placed over a black envelope. He took one of the napkins and wiped the grease that had splattered on his wedding ring.
“Good morning, everyone!”
