Holocaust 2099

A new chapter every week, on monday’s. After the bombs devastated our world, plunging it into chaos, we sought refuge underground amid the ruins and toxic air. In this underground haven, we forged a community, relying on makeshift gas masks for survival. Despite the apparent isolation, a persistent belief haunted me — that other survivors existed beyond our shelter. As our makeshift home thrived, my quest for connection led me to the radio, yearning for a sign of life beyond our confines. Yet, my conviction faced doubt, and my plea for acknowledgment fell on skeptical ears. In the remnants of our shattered reality, I clung to the hope that our survival was not a solitary tale, but a thread woven into the broader tapestry of resilient souls enduring the aftermath. Yet, the challenge persisted — convincing others that amidst the ruins, a shared struggle for survival extended beyond the confines of our refuge. Authors note: I didn’t put much thought into my last book, but trust me this one I have spent so much thought to create and in-depth story, I hope you enjoy!

Moving Forward

"So, you're suggesting that while we were confined in the below, the government parties up here commencing the war?!" Anna declared with fiery intensity. The colonel responded with a confirming "yes," adding, "And that train we destroyed was part of a more extensive project." Anna, still grappling with the revelation, uttered, "Okay, so we'll head in the general direction of where the train was. If this place is as vast as you claim, we should stumble upon it?"

As the train forged ahead along its intended path, the landscape gradually unveiled a makeshift castle on the horizon. Anna, contemplating their next move, directed Dmitry, "Alright, Dmitry, your task is to locate Vera. The rest of us will endeavor to dismantle it from within.

Igor interjected, halting Dmitry's departure with a proposition, "Dmitry, take this – an old pressure rifle I stumbled upon. It's perfect for maintaining stealth." Gratefully accepting the silent weapon, Dmitry embarked on his mission to infiltrate the base. His keen instincts led him to discover a concealed sewer system, which he deduced would guide him to one of the prison rooms based on his external reconnaissance of the facility.

Upon breaching the interior, Dmitry skillfully unlocked the prison room, initiating his covert journey through the base. Resourcefulness became his ally when he chanced upon scattered metal cans, recognizing their potential as tools for diversion. Spotting two guards ahead, he strategically tossed a can, diverting their attention just long enough to execute a lethal maneuver—silently snapping the neck of the first guard and deftly propelling the second over the railing.

Dmitry, executing his mission with utmost stealth, meticulously surveyed each room until his keen eyes finally caught sight of two guards escorting Vera toward the control room. Her struggles were evident, prompting Dmitry to discreetly tail the group. With a subtle touch, he managed to slip through the closing door into the control room, strategically positioning himself to eavesdrop on the impending conversation.

As Vera's captors initiated a discussion within the control room, Dmitry's acute senses picked up the distant gunfire echoing through the base. The cacophony of shots reverberated in the air, intensifying the urgency of his mission. No longer able to remain concealed, Dmitry seized the moment when his teammates forcefully burst through the door. In a swift, decisive motion, he engaged the adversaries with his bayonet, swiftly incapacitating the threat.

"Dmitry! I knew you would come after me. I told those bitches," exclaimed Vera, relieved to see her comrade. Dmitry, signaling her to follow, guided her through the chaotic crossfire. The team swiftly retreated to The Velocity, where they initiated an immediate escape, throttling away from the besieged base at full speed.

Once the initial chaos subsided, Anna seized the opportunity to elucidate the complex web of deceit woven by the colonel. She detailed the true nature of the ongoing conflict, exposing the concealed reality that had compelled their actions. Vera, now informed, faced the harsh revelation. "What?! You knew there was more out here, and you didn't tell us! Dmitry was right!" Anna declared vehemently.

In the midst of the turbulent revelation, Anna assumed command, recognizing the need for a new order of leadership. She outlined their immediate course of action, acknowledging the harsh reality that they had nowhere to retreat. "Our next order of action, considering the fact that we have no place to go, is to find a refuge out here where we can live without the radiation, like Dmitry always wanted."

"considering our current location of Sjenica Serbia, I would bet that we should move our location to Yakutsu Sakha, which is about 10,847 kilometers away from our current location. We may find better luck there considering the warmer altitudes" Anna finally stated.

This chapter was very fun to write, considering how it develops the story.
