Chapter 5: Back to New York

I'm on my way to New York to audition for a new movie a lead role that Jeff got me I was allowed to get a few weeks off to audition by Steven he was satisfied by my performance recently, When I saw the title I knew I'll be doing the film "500 Days of Summer" one of the best films of 2009

the movie is narrated through the perspective Tom Hansen the lead character as he goes through a relationship and heartbreak with Summer a girl he fell in love with and someone who broke his by saying she doesn't believe in love and then gets engaged after at the end of the movie you can't help but feel a twinge of overwhelming hate for her

the movie is undeniably the most perfect movie for me right now because of two important reasons the first is that I will be able to challenge my acting skills and I will be able to enjoy it the second reason is that I need more exposure in the independent film circle this will help further my career as well

Flashback

2006 a few days after Jeff offered for him to become my agent

'alright since your a minor you can't sign the contract right now but when you become an adult you'll be able to sign it' Jeff said

'Thank you so much Jeff for doing this' I replied to him sincerely

'I know and you can tell me when you become more comfortable' he's referring to why I have to secretly leave my family to become an actor basically running away from home

'Thank you' that was all I could say to him but those two words are filled with sincerity

We sit there comfortably drinking our tea and in comfortable silence

'Anyways since you want to become an actor what kind' he said to me with a professional smile

'What do you mean' I asked him questionably

'There are film and television actors which of the two' him still having that smile

'I would like to do both If I could of course and I would like to return to the West End when I have the chance'I said drinking my tea

he nods at my response and says

'That is fine then what kind of films and television do you want to do I'm assuming artistic' which made me look at him weirdly

'Why do you think I'll go for artistic films and television' I replied crossing my arms pretending to be angry

which made him flinch a little but when he saw my smile he knew I was messing with him he just sighs

'A type I guess a bit stereotypical on my part I admit and by your reaction I'm wrong'

'I don't actually mind doing commercial films as long the script is good and interest me I will do it if my schedule permits it' I said everything concisely and confidently

'Talking like your gonna be a big star already' he smirked at me

'I have a feeling' I said to him meaningfully

'So like Tom Hanks then'

Tom Hanks one of the few people in the world that have one hand filled with awards and critical acclaim and the other filled with popularity and commercial success

Back to the Present

I prepared for the audition however there were a few concerns after I calmed down from my excitement

'But Jeff isn't there a bit of a problem with my age' I said concerned

'Henry we have talked about this I assure you don't look like your 18 so don't worry' he reassured me

my concern is that I'm too young looking for "500 Days of Summer" the description of the character in a the script makes him around mid twenties I'm 18 so that doesn't make sense

but luckily I'm older than I look by a few years at first I don't know if it's a compliment or an insult but when I wanted to become an it was a huge bonus for me since there are not a lot of roles for people my age, there are a lot of young actors that get rejected from the role even though they act better than the chosen character because of there age

A lesson that I learned just because you can act the role doesn't mean you're suitable for the role

so I wasn't expecting to get any roles early on my career but thankfully and luckily I met Jeff and I got my first role in The Pacific

The car just stopped in front of a building in Manhattan the audition isn't open call so the casting crew only sent invitations to a few people well few if you compare it to an open casting call anyways the invitations were sent out to people who have connections or just caught the eye of someone in the casting team sometimes they get bribed by the agents of the actors

people that bribed the casting team are usually smalltime actors

The audition went like clockwork just like last in my audition some out of that room with happy, conflicted, sad, and angry faces it was like scrolling through the emoji on my

Iphone 14 but the joke was a bit new or well futuristic since it's 2008 so emoji's still aren't popular and will take a few years to get mainstream and the first Iphone was just released last year so I'm gonna wait for a few years and tell the joke then

My name get's called up I enter the room and just like last time I did my best as to act my heart out

'Thank you Jeff' I closed the door as i look nostalgic at the hospital

I entered the building every now and then I see a few familiar faces and greeted them and I came back to the cancer ward to see some of the kids

'Good afternoon Aileen' I wave at a busy nurse

'Oh Henry how have you been love' Aileen is the head nurse for the Children's Cancer Ward

'I've been quite well I've been doing my dream job and I love it' I told her with a wry smile

'That's wonderful honey anyways I have to go back working' she said as she hurries to a another room

I went to the nurse's desk and signed some papers to officially volunteer

I start to help around the ward I start seeing the kids that I worked with but I didn't saw some I asked one of the nurses I knew and some of the patients went home and some.... didn't make it

I was passing through and I saw Elizabeth against it has been months since I last saw her she's visibly thinner than before..
