A Bit Disappointed

Nidhogg POV:

I was quite upset with myself that I hadn't gotten the chance to consume that one wind mage who apparently didn't need to chant to cast spells. She came off as a surprise as, to my knowledge, everyone human was required to chant. Some were so good at it that they could mutter every syllable with a second, but it had to still be spoken for the spell to cast.

Knowing that she'll be a problem in the future if I didn't deal with her immediately, I attempted to consume her, but I was too far away, and their wind spells were annoying. Especially when one guy started running off with her in his arms. The decision to not let them escape and use my Cero was an easy one.

While using it, I decided to destroy the rest of the town as well, as I had no intention on consuming everyone as I knew they would provide no benefit for me. Luckily, when I evolved, I could sense the mana off of individuals once again, so tracking them was easy. I would say that my mistake was using the Kumon to appear right next to them, as it consumes a lot of my own mana to do so.

I made short work of the injured guy, but to my dismay, I couldn't sense the female I needed to deal with. Knowing her general vicinity, I just used Cero on the entire forest to make sure she was dead. I intentionally scanned for a couple of minutes to confirm my kill until I looked down at my feet to make sure she wasn't there. I hadn't noticed it before, but why were my feet like that?

After there was no movement within the destroyed forest for five minutes, I left the area, heading towards where I felt a gathering of mana. After using the Kumon and Cero repeatedly back-to-back, I needed some form of substance to sustain my growing hunger.

As I relieved my hunger on a midsized city that provided little resistance, I knew I needed to prepare for the upcoming response from the church. They had a way of determining demonic presences on human worlds, so they knew I was here. I wanted to keep limit testing and fight whoever they sent.

I knew that the church was only going to send a single Deacon to investigate. They only responded how they did initially with me and Silverfoot due to certain conditions. I was even willing to try to take on the extermination team.

After Deacon Briar, I think I've developed a bit of a hatred towards Deacons particularly. I was itching to abuse one in return for what was done to me. Plus, I only had enough knowledge about the church from a disciples ranking. I needed more knowledge on the church.

Just as I consumed the last human within the city, I could feel the entire mana of the planet flowing to the north. From the memories of the people I consumed here, I knew that the weyline was to the north. I couldn't feel who came out of it, but I started making my way over there anyway to confront him.

Deacon's POV:

Immediately on stepping out of the weyline, I could feel that something was wrong. My acute senses told me that I was being hunted. It was no doubt the demon, who somehow knew of my arrival. It was no matter, as I decided to continue my investigation to get a better understanding of what the demon was capable of.

Using my carriage, I arrive to the city within minutes. Or at least, according to my map, there should have been a city here. Currently, there was only smoke, and large craters in front of me. Confused, I walked slowly as I tried to figure out why there wasn't a city here.

Not paying attention, my foot knocks against something, causing me to look down. Next to my foot was a sign for an inn, which makes me realize, the demon destroyed an entire town. I turn, as I need to report this to the church and possibly get reinforcements until I received a bad feeling. All my instincts screamed at me to run, but I ignored it. What kind of man of the church would I be if I ran from a demon, no matter its strength.

Then, suddenly, my body gets constricted as I get lifted into the air. Whatever was gripping me was strong, and all I could do was flail against my unseen assailant uselessly. I continue to struggle even as I rise higher into the sky. For some reason my body began to panic, as if I was about to die, but I thought differently.

Although the demon had me at the moment, I just merely had to wait for an opportunity when it was going to try to absorb my mana to counterattack. Right now, patience was key to my survival. I would overcome this demon in Lumnious's name. I just needed to wait and...

General POV:

Nidhogg was surprised at the Deacons lack of resistance as his mana replenished his own. The Deacon's memories flooded his mind as he frowned at some news. Apparently, they were kind of aware of his presence, but they lacked information on him. He didn't care for trying to remain subtle, but he knew that if he attracted too much attention, some higher ranks in the church would intervene.

He needed to come up with a plan. But first, he decided that while he was here, he might as well clean up the planet. Looking to the west, he begins to trek to the nearest city.
