Chapter 5

(TW: Mentions of self-harm)

Jason worked with Jamie a few times but he had never talked to him until the death of his boss. After that, the two became close. They were dangerous together. They were fast and had true talent. They got the most jobs. Now in the present Jason was known as one of the richest men. He had money and power but no happiness.

He never cared for it of course. He was never curious about it until now, seeing Jamie so worked up over one boy. Jon Gardener's son at that. He saw him constantly worry whenever Niki would pick up a knife. "Jamie just sits the fuck down," Niki said, angry. "No just let me do the cutting" Jamie replied as he took the knife. "Whatever" Niki walked into the living room. He stopped when he saw Jason on the couch. Niki froze when he saw him.

It was the same guy who saved him from the god-awful businessmen, from his father. "What are you doing here?" He asked. Jason just stared at him. Jamie walked in behind him and froze. "Oh shit Jason when did you get back?" Jamie asked, confused. He walked over to him. Niki felt jealous when he saw him hug Jason. He was confused. "I'll be back," Niki said turning away and rushing to the bathroom.

Memories of his past hit him. He suddenly found it hard to breathe. Niki fell to his knees as he pulled out his phone. He quickly dialed Karson without thinking.

"Bye" Karson waved at Kira, who waved back with a smile. Karson left the store with a smile. He pulled out his vibrating phone. "Hi Niki" He greeted, happily. He heard heavy breathing on the other side. "Niki are you ok? Did something happen?" He asked, worriedly. "i-" He stopped. "Ok Niki I need you to take a deep breath," He said, softly. "In and out. Your ok" Karson said, taking breaths with him.

"Ok now tell me where you are," Karson said. "I'm-... I-I" He stuttered. "Okay, Niki calmed down. Why don't you share your location" Karson said, soothingly. "O-ok-" He took a deep breath. His phone beeped and he checked it. "K-Karson-... p-please st-stay-" His breathing began to lose control again. "I'm right here Niki. I'll never leave you. Now breathe ok" He said.

He got on the bus. "Ok Niki I'm on the bus now," He said. Niki hummed. He talked to him a bit trying to get him to relax. When he was almost there he heard a loud bang from the other line. "Niki? Are you okay? " He asked. "He... he found me. No, no, no" He cried out. "Niki who found you? What's going on?" He asked worry laced his voice. "Karson help me please" He sobbed. "I'm here already. It's ok don't be scared" Karson replied. He ran to the door and quickly knocked and banged on the door.

It opened revealing a tall boy with hair covering his eyes. He pushed past him. He felt bad but he needed to find Niki and find out what the hell was going on. "Niki what's wrong it's just me Jamie" He heard a familiar voice say. He followed the voice downstairs.

"Niki!?" He yelled. He arrived at a broken door. Niki was on the ground sobbing and shaking. "Niki, you need to breath" Karson ran to him. Jaime looked up at him confused and shocked. "K-Karson" Niki opened his eyes. "Yes it's me," He said as he pulled him into his arms. Niki latched onto him. "You're okay. Your safe now" He whispered as he rocked him back and forth. "Focus on my voice okay" Karson reached up with a shaking hand and brushed a hair out of his forehead. He whispered numbers to him. Eventually, he calmed down enough that he fell asleep. Karson let out a deep breath.

"What the fuck just happened?" He heard Jamie say worried. He was pacing back and forth. "Hey calmed down first ok," Karson said, trying to stop another panic attack. "Calm down!? He almost stopped breathing and you're telling me to calm down!? " Jamie yelled. "Jamie shut up. Niki's asleep" The boy, who answered the door, said. Jamie looked at Niki and sighed. "Fine" He muttered. "Good" Karson sighed. He looked down at Niki and noticed the blood on his hands.

He had scratched his forearms so much they bled. "Do you have a first aid kit?" He asked. "Why?" Jamie asked as he entered the bathroom. He cursed under his breath. "I'll clean him up" Jamie replied, as he lifted Niki bridal style. Karson nodded. Jamie left the room and Karson stood up shaking so much he almost fell over. But the boy caught him before he could. "Hey, you alright?" He asked. "Yes, thanks" Karson tried his best to smile. He leaned against the sink and put his face in his hands.

"Who even are you?" The boy asked. How rude. Karson thought. "I'm Karson a friend of Niki," He said, giving a tight-lipped smile. He nodded. "Who are you?" He asked. "Jason" He replied bluntly. Karson nodded. "Well, I should go" He got off the sink. "Ok," Jason shrugged.

Karson had his back facing him as he rolled his eyes. "Tell Niki to calm me when he wakes up," Karson said. Jason nodded. "Goodbye," He waved as he left the house. "He left? Why didn't you offer him anything? " Jamie asked. "Not my house" Jason shrugged, a blank look on his face. But he couldn't help but feel worried for the boy. Which is weird he's never felt this way before.

"What the fuck is happening to me," He said under his breath. "I'm gonna go. Tell Niki to call that kid" Jason replied as he left. Leaving Jamie there confused and worried. Jason on the other hand was following Karson. He for some reason wanted to make sure he was okay. He followed him all the way home. "What the fuck am I doing? This is weird as fuck" He whispered to himself. He heard movement behind him and knew he was caught. "Yes, yes it is" He heard a voice from behind him. He sighed. He turned to face Karson who was holding a kitten.

"Why'd you follow me?" Karson asked, leaning forward. "Uhm Jamie sent me to make sure you got home safely" Jason lied easily. "Hmm ok well I'm home safe. You can go now" Karson said, not believing him one bit. "Yeah. Uh cool" Jason walked past him awkwardly. "And tell 'Jamie' I said thanks," He said adding quotation marks to Jamie. So he knew that he caught onto his lie.

Jason cursed under his breath. Why did he suddenly feel like this? He wasn't supposed to feel anything. Plus he was sent to kill the boy not feel whatever the hell he was feeling for him.
