Preliminary Phase

We were at Dolle Harbour. Both me and Gon thanked the captain and he told us to go up to the cedar tree on the hilltop as a shortcut to the Hunter exam. I knew someone over heard us but I didn't call attention to it because I had already gotten into enough fights. Leorio was arguing about the location saying we were supposed to take the bus to Zaban City but Me, Gon and Kurapika decided to take the route to the cedar tree on the hilltop. Leorio eventually started running to catch up to us. Leorio lied about why he came back to us and we walked in to a creepy abandoned alleyway.

Gon, Leorio and Kurapika were on edge while I was still calm. When the old woman came out and shouted "Exciting two choice quiz!" .

We all gave her deadpanned looks. We had to answer one question right to pass through and continue the Hunter exam. The guy who followed us came out and answered a question first. Leorio was furious and wanted to leave but couldn't or he would be disqualified. The old woman told us our question: Your son and daughter had been kidnapped. Which do you save? Select 1 for son and 2 for daughter. I immediately understood. It was a simple trick. The answer was silence. It also seemed Kurapika had figured it out. As the woman counted down, Leorio picked up a wooden stick and I understood what was going through his head.

When the time was up, Leorio lunged forward at the woman but before he could reach her, I gave him a kick to the side and sent him flying. Both me and Kurapika explained the situation and the old woman led us to the route we were supposed to take and told us about the navigators that were going to lead us to the exam site. We went all the way to the forest and Leorio kept complaining until I threatened to hit him. We finally reached the house of the couple living on the hilltop. We walked in to find a Kiriko Magical Beast inside holding a girl hostage and a boy injured on the floor. The Kiriko jumped through the window with the girl. I cast my nen ability Healing Shield and the man healed up almost immediately. We all went to chase the Kiriko while Leorio still stayed behind to look after the injured man. We were able to rescue the girl but I knew the girl was related to the Kiriko and that the Kirikos were more than one. I was called back and the Kirikos introduced themselves as the Navigators, the injured man was their son and the man's wife was their daughter. They test applicants before leading them to the Hunter exam site. Kurapika passed because of his intelligence and his ability to use the most vague of hints.

Leorio passed because of his kindness. Gon passed because of his superhuman physical ability and powers of observation. I passed because of I was calm and able evaluate the situation, kept my knowledge to myself and helped when needed. The Kirikos flew us to the exam site while Leorio was arguing with Kurapika.
