The servants sensed the king's mood and quickly made themselves scarce.

"I won't speak for all wolves, but those in my pack eat more than humans. Shifting takes a lot of energy," Kelly said slowly after swallowing his mouthful.

"And your pack is large?"

Kelly cocked his head to the side, unsure of the question.

  It seemed like an innocent, get-to-know-you, but he had the feeling the king was trying to figure out population.

"Yes, compared to others, it is."

"Kelly's father is the Alpha," Isla offered.

  "Kelly will become Alpha after him."

"Alpha?"

"Like a king," Isla explained. 

"Which would make Kelly like a prince."

Gaius barked out a laugh.

  "A prince, you say? In all my days I have never seen a prince dressed the way he was yesterday."

They were talking about him like he wasn't there, especially the king, and that rubbed him the wrong way.
