Meeting Asha

"Hey, I'm Asha". She says after we get lodged in.

"Marvlyn". I ignore her outstretched hands and walk over to the window.

"If you're gonna give me attitude, then it's better I kick your ass outta my fucking room!"

I ignore her and take off my jacket.

"What time is it?"

She glances at me coldly without replying.

I take a shower couple of minutes later, thinking of my life and how much of an asshole Jason is.

"Hurry! I need to use the bathroom!" She yells.

I reach for my phone and turn it on, it didn't show any notification. No missed calls, no texts whatsoever. I sigh before keeping my phone back. I adjust in the tub, shutting my eyes as I lay there motionlessly. I could hear myself breath, I was breathing heavily from all that running.

I get done with bathing some minutes later and I return to the room. She was in the room in her towel with a satin bunnet over her hair, concealing her black hair in it, she lay on the bed, busy on her phone.

I pull open the wardrobe to take out my clothes after drying myself but the wardrobe was empty.

"Anya?". I call out.

"It's Asha". She corrects.

"Where are my clothes?" I ask.

"Clothes?"

"Fucking idiot, my clothes!"

She glares at me. "It doesn't hurt to be polite".

"Fine, I'm sorry". I say gritting my teeth. "I want the clothes I had on earlier. I put them in the closet and now I can't find them".

"Urrrggghh🤦I sent it for laundry, it'll be here any minute from now".

"Excuse me? What am I supposed to wear now? Those are the only clothes I came with!"

"Don't be a bitch, you could stay starkers. I'm not gay, don't worry".

"Oh goddddd🤦🤦🤦. I'm already having one hell of a bad day and now-". I muttered. "There's no way I'm staying starkers lady. How do you expect me to stay in my state of nature? My fucking birthday suite?! Better get me something". I say.

"Peace out girl, I was only kidding. You could borrow mine".

"Borrow yours?"

"Yeah, got a problem?"

I roll my eyes and scoff before accepting the dress.

"You look like a seductress. I don't know why I can't look good in my own dresses". She says.

The dress is a really uncomfortable one for me. I asked if she had spare trousers but she just wouldn't give it out so I'm here, in a gown.

She leaves for the bathroom and I'm left to myself. I settle on the bed, my phone in my hands, hands crossed under my head on the pillow, legs crossed under the duvet. I'm watching this tv program and it's really nice. I stare at the ceiling seconds later. I'm sick worried about Jason and if he's okay and why he wouldn't call, did I really not matter to him?

I stared at the ceiling lost in thoughts I didn't even know when she walked in. She lays beside me on the bed, under the duvet.

"Got a problem?" She asks facing me whilst laying on her sides on the bed.

"No". I say looking away. "I'm hungry". I walk over to the telephone and call room service to get me food.

"How'd you end up here?"

"What do you mean?"

"Here, in Miami".

"Uh, that's my business". I say.

"Look, I ain't trynna be meddlesome in your private life okay? I'm just trynna get to know you. I mean we're staying here together, I don't care for how long you're gonna be staying but I want us to get along fairly".

"Oh, but you're being it....meddlesome. You don't have to know me, my personal life isn't your damn business, let's just continue the way we are, okay? Besides I'm leaving tomorrow, you see it's just for tonight. Deal with it". I say and sigh.

"Do you have to be so impossible? Gosh🤦".

Her phone rings and she answers it, putting it on loud speaker. It's her mom.

"How's everything going on with her?" Her mom asks.

"Fine, she's nice and only problem I've with her is that she's a pain in the ass". She says looking at me from the corners of her eye, half smiling.

"Uh, she'll get over it soon. She looked so tired and frustrated when I saw her. Just calm down and uh, try to make her smile. Okay?"

"Okay mom".

"Thanks Eva". I say out loud.

"No need....remind me your name again please?"

"Marvlyn". I say.

"It's fine Marilyn. Do have a night sleep so you'd make it much earlier to the airport". She says, from her voice,I could tell she was grinning.

"Okay ma'am".

"Mom, I'll call again tomorrow. Bye". Asha says and hangs up.

I get on with doing stuffs on my phone while waiting for my food to arrive.

"Did you ask for two?" She asks and I give her a questioning look. "For two, food". She says.

"No". I say maintaining a stern face.

"Okay, it's uh...it's fine. I'll just order food online". She says browsing through delicacies on her phone. "Why do you hate me?" She asks without raising her head to look up at me, still busy on her phone.

"Why?"

"You've been acting so cold yeah? You're not acting nice and you seem distanced and...and worried. I mean, I don't know you....yeah but I'm bothered okay? If only you'd just get along". She says.

"I don't hate you, sweets. Okay, I'm Marvlyn. Uh, I'm leaving for New York tomorrow. Uh, got someone? And yeah, I like you. How about we sit and talk about you?" I say acting wayy out of line.

"What are you doing?"

"Being nice like you said. Sit, I'll stretch your hair". I say rolling her hair round my index finger.

"Stop it okay? Just be you in fact!" She says slapping my hand off her hair and I smirk.

"Thank you, this is how I am. Cold, unfriendly, rude and non challant. Look, I really appreciate your mom's help, yeah? But I ain't social. It's a huge NO NO for me, if you can't live with it, I might as well sleep outside the room. I only need a place to pass the night, not a place to make friends". I say.

"Sorry". She says and retires to bed.

I lay on my back on the bed, fingers laced, biting my lower lips, staring at the ceiling. I steal a glance at my phone again, yet nothing. I sigh and roll to the other end of the bed, lying on my sides. I roll the duvet up to shoulder level, my left arm acting as a sub pillow for my head.

There's a knock at the door and I get off bed.

"Room service-".

"Okay, thanks". I say taking the food from the blonde girl.

I shut the door after me, I knew what I did back there was rude but I didn't care. She was still speaking when I cut her short, taking the food from her and slamming the door at her face almost immediately.

I open the plate only to see ramen and some other things. I'm of Korean descent sure, but I didn't like ramen that much. I'm half American half Korean. My mom's Korean, my dad's American.

I was very hungry and didn't have an option so I had to settle for less. I get on with mixing all the stuffs before starting to eat with the chop sticks. I don't know how they knew I'm Korean and so they served me this, maybe it's a mistake. I thought but it's already late as I've lready started eating.

"Are you truly Korean?" Asha asks and I stop eating.

I glare at her and sigh. I wipe my mouth clean with the napkin that sat beside my food and then I gulp down a reasonable amount of water.

"What is it? Asha? Sorry, but are you that dumb?"

"I'm surprised. Sorry if I irritated you with my question, pardon my manners. Yes, you look very much Korean and that was a stupid question, I only asked because I saw you eating ramen and pasta with chop sticks. You look half American and half Korean, you've got this deceptive look. It's a compliment though". She says.

"Come have it. Don't order your food".

She agrees and turns off her phone, joining me to eat ramen and pasta.

"I'm sorry".

"For what?" She asks, mouthful of ramen.

"For being cold and rude".

"Suck it up and enjoy the food".

I walk out of the table to the window, resting my elbows on the pane as I look around the neighbourhood.

"I'm here if you want to talk".

Room service comes at the door couple of seconds later and Asha gets the door. She hands them the dishes and shuts the door. I steal a glance at my phone again, yet nothing.

"If you're missing someone or expecting something, contact the person already and stop glancing at your phone every now and then".

I glare at her.

"Asha....have you ever been in love?"

"Yeah, once. Why?"

"Oh, never mind. I'm sorry though for being rude". I say.

"You said you're leaving for New York. What brings you here?" She asks, legs crossed on top each other, her back leaning against the head board of the bed, pillow in between her legs, her hands on her ankle as she sat on the bed.

"Um, it's a long story. I came here because a friend of mine had business to do here and he wanted me to meet his parents. Initially, he didn't want me to come but I insisted and when he realized he couldn't stop me, he let me come with him and he decided I meet with his parents. I'm meant to meet with them tomorrow". I say.

"In New York?"

"No, his parents base here in Miami. You see, we went for a movie date and he acted weirdly and said a lot of hurtful things to me. I couldn't bear it so I left, I'm having my clothes and stuffs at his apartment returned to my apartment in New York tomorrow. He's the reason I've being stealing glances at my phone, to see if he's called or texted but none". I say.

"Oh, so sorry sweets. I just hope he loves you".

"He does. Well, that's enough of me. We've to retire to bed, I infact, have to retire to bed since I've a long day ahead of me.
