Chapter 5 - I Agree With Your Confession
"Sorry, I have no intention of falling in love," Toujou Koneko replied flatly.
"As expected," Mahiro feigned disappointment, sighing as he glanced at the countdown.
"Toujou-san, you've been very popular since the beginning of school, but I haven't heard of any scandals about you until now. There must be some special reasons," he continued, though he wasn't good at such topics.
"No special reason," she replied, feeling a headache coming on as he continued.
"If there's nothing else, I'll leave," Toujou Koneko said, ready to stand up.
"Please, listen to me a bit longer," Mahiro pleaded, pulling a pained smile as if mocking himself.
He then began a heartfelt speech about how he noticed her from the first day of school, admired her, and how she always caught his attention. He spoke softly, painting a sad picture of unrequited love.
At first, Toujou Koneko didn't care, and there was a trace of impatience in her golden pupils. But as Mahiro spoke, her indifference lessened, and her ears turned slightly red.
"I'm sorry. I said so much, but I don't regret it. At least Toujou-san knows my heart," Mahiro finished as the countdown finally hit zero.
Toujou Koneko nodded slightly. "I'm not as good as you think... If you knew my true self, you'd be disappointed," she murmured, thinking of her dark past.
"Is that so?" Mahiro smiled. "But no matter what, I believe in my own judgment and in you."
She looked at Mahiro, then stood up. "I will consider your proposal," she said hesitantly before leaving.
Mahiro was stunned.
Consider? Accept my confession? Unlikely. Besides, what else? Forget it, he thought, shaking off the confusion.
"Ding! Quest progress one-third completed. Rewards are being distributed," a pleasant reminder sounded in his mind.
"Get a physical fitness enhancement card."
Watching Toujou Koneko leave, Mahiro couldn't help but smile happily, eager to check the reward.
Item: Physique Enhancement Card (ten times)
Grade: D
Effect: Improves physical fitness, including strength, speed and more.
"Use now?" the system prompted.
"Save it for later," Mahiro decided, planning to wait until the Trial quest was completed.
Leaving the rooftop in high spirits, he finished his lunch quickly, then took out a love letter from his drawer, modifying it slightly before heading to the third-grade classroom.
"Himejima Akeno and Rias are in the same class, right?" he thought, hoping to avoid them.
Approaching their class, he found a senpai and asked, "Can you give this letter to Himejima Akeno-senpai?"
He handed the letter and a thousand-yen coin to the senpai. "Please ask her to meet me on the rooftop after school. I'll give you 10,000 yen as thanks."
Seeing the senpai's impatience turn to flattery at the sight of the money, Mahiro felt assured.
After school, Mahiro waited on the rooftop, ready to confront the senior if necessary.
But soon, a beautiful figure appeared: Himejima Akeno.
Taking a deep breath, Mahiro followed his earlier steps, confessing his feelings.
"Ara, ara~, I didn't realize I was so admired by my kōhai-san," Himejima Akeno said playfully, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
"I know I'm not worthy of you, but my feelings..." Mahiro began but paused. "What did you just say?"
"I agreed to be with you," Himejima Akeno smiled, finding the situation amusing.
Mahiro was speechless. Is this real? He just wanted to complete his quest and get rewards.
"System, what do I do?" he asked internally, feeling the urge to vomit blood.
"Not within the system's service scope," the cold voice replied.
"Hehehe," Mahiro chuckled bitterly.
Am I doing everything I need to please the heroines, or is my luck just that good?
Why did she suddenly agree?
Who am I?
Where am I?
What am I doing?
Mahiro Toma's mind needed clarification.
Looking at Himejima Akeno with a sly smile, Mahiro fell into silence, feeling like he had fallen into a trap.
"Kōhai-san!?"
Himejima Akeno called softly, tapping her lips with her finger in a charming, thoughtful manner.
Then she smiled and said, "Since we have started dating, it seems too distant to call you kōhai. I'll call you Mahiro-kun instead; it sounds closer!"
"What do you think, Mahiro-kun?" Himejima Akeno's voice was languid yet attractive, pulling Mahiro's mind back from his daze.
"Huh? What?" Mahiro came back to his senses and answered blankly.
"I said I'll call you Mahiro-kun so we can appear closer," Himejima Akeno repeated with a slightly heavier tone.
"No problem, I'll listen to Senpai."
Mahiro nodded in agreement.
"Do you still call me senpai? Could it be that Mahiro has no intention of dating me, and those words were just to appease me?" Himejima Akeno still smiled and stared straight at Mahiro with beautiful eyes, carrying the strong presence of a "senior."
"How could it be? The words just now were sincere, but I was too surprised and didn't know how to face you for a moment." Mahiro laughed dryly and replied quickly. He certainly couldn't tell her he only said it to complete a quest; he didn't want to get into trouble.
"It turns out to be like this, but Mahiro-kun must adjust his mindset. After all, we will be in a relationship from now on," Himejima Akeno replied with a smile.
"Well, I understand, Akeno." Mahiro laughed dryly, feeling Himejima Akeno wasn't sincere, just like him.
"Call me Akeno," Himejima Akeno's eyes were smiling like crescent moons.
"Akeno," Mahiro said simply.
Hearing this, Himejima Akeno's smile became even brighter, and a slyness flashed in her eyes.
"Ah, it's getting late, I have club activities. Mahiro-kun, let's call it a day. I need to go to the club."
Himejima Akeno smiled apologetically at Mahiro.
"Okay, Akeno, go to the club."
Mahiro nodded. The quest was completed anyway and even overachieved. She could go, and he could calm down for a while.
"Mahiro is so kind and considerate. It's straightforward to have such a partner. Don't blame me, Mahiro. After all, I have a prior engagement with the president and the others. I'll find time to make up for today's time."
Himejima Akeno smiled lightly. Every move she made was elegant, making Mahiro quite... speechless? It felt like she was saying, "Good boy, senpai will treat you."
"Then I'll go first. See you tomorrow," Himejima Akeno said goodbye, leaving Mahiro alone.
[Trial Quest(2/3)]
[Completed]
"Ding! The time limit has been completed, and the quest progress is two-thirds completed. The rewards are being distributed, please check."
