Strike Back

He was greeted by the silence of a graveyard.

"Serenaaa!" Eric shouted once again, in a much higher voice than the previous one. The overhead sun was scorching, and he felt his throat and mouth dry up like a desert without a year of rain. He needed water to quench his thirst, yet there was none.

Jim and Jael both rushed out of the car. They both looked around the empty field, and confusion marred their faces. They turned to look at each other, and when their eyes met, it felt as though they could both read through the other's soul.

They felt a stab of fear. Jim's shoulders hunched, his stomach flipped, and he felt fear squeeze the air from his lungs. Jael felt her heart beat faster than normal, and her eyes darkened with worry.

Had Serena led them to a trap? Wasn't she supposed to be somewhere timing them? Why wasn't she anywhere to be seen?
