Do you stand by your words from that day?.

Richard had lit up a cigarette but he wasn't smoking; instead, he let the cigarette burn gradually. The swirling smoke blurred his handsome face and it was even more difficult to guess his mysterious and unpredictable facial expression.

The phone rang for a long time. Just when Laura assumed that nobody would answer her call, the line connected. Richard's deep and steady voice greeted her over the phone, "Who is this?"

"President Williams, Can you come to pick me up?" Laura's voice was hoarse.

"Laura Fuller?" Richard asked.

The moment Laura remembered Clarissa in Damon's arms, a wave of anger and sorrow surged in her chest.

"I am in X bus station. Please come." Laura then hung up on the phone call immediately.

"Hello..."

Richard tried to call Laura's phone number again, but it was unfortunately to no avail. He picked up his suit jacket and marched out of his office.

Laura sat in silence for the longest time. Finally, when she started to feel pins and needles in her limbs, she stood up from the bench. However, she almost fell onto the ground due to the prolonged period of poor circulation. She immediately reached out to support herself against the bench.

A shadow suddenly loomed over her and Laura raised her head to see Richard standing in front of her.

He was standing tall and straight while his black western suit, which was custom-made by a famous Italian fashion designer, accentuated his height. He had handsome facial features, but he had an air of coldness to him. He merely stood quietly on the spot while maintaining a calm and steady aura as his forcefulness attracted the attention of countless passersby.

Laura took a step forward, but she felt a shooting pain from her heels all of a sudden; she was not sure if it was most probably because she had just relaxed significantly. The colour instantly drained from her face and she lost her balance.

The man standing in front of her looked slightly surprised. However, he did not hesitate to reach out to hold her in his arms. Suddenly, Laura felt a force sweeping her up from the floor—the man, who was standing behind her, carried her in his arms.

"Where would you like to go?" He had deep eyes with a gaze that seemed like pools of an endless starry night.

But Laura remained silent. Richard carried her to the front of the car door. He placed her carefully on the front passenger seat before closing the door behind him. Then, he slid into the driver's seat beside her.

Laura regained her composure and said, "Sorry to trouble you, President Williams." She bit her lip until it almost tore before she spoke slowly, "Do you stand by your words from that day?"

Richard's eyes narrowed as he looked at Laura. "What words?"

Laura looked up at Richard in shock with a flushed face. She was embarrassed but didn't know what to say.

"Hmm?" Richard titled his head.

Richard made Laura feel so nervous. "You said you'd marry me. Do you stand by your words?." Laura's heart was beating quickly and uncontrollably. She suddenly regretted being so impulsive.

Richard had been staring at Laura the whole time. Seeing her chain of reactions from saying those words, a smile slowly worked its way into his eyes.

Laura tried to force a smile but couldn't. "I… I just wanted to…"

"Yes," Richard said with smiling eyes. "I'm a person who keeps my word and doesn't joke around."

For some reason, Laura felt a moment of fear, although that feeling disappeared shortly after.

"I said I'd give you time to consider, but since you've made up your mind, there'll be no turning back," Richard added firmly.

Laura had no idea how to describe her feelings. Should I entrust my life to him just like that?

Laura pursed her lips and thought for a moment. "Can I ask you something?"

Richard then spread out his hand slightly, indicating for Laura to speak.

"Why me?" Laura asked.

Richard remained silent then said with a smile, "You are fit to be my wife. My grandmother is getting old, and she wishes for me to get married and have kids soon."

Laura stared into Richard's eyes, as though trying to find something.

Richard curled his lips. "Since you have no other questions...When do you want to get married, Ms Fuller?". He was being such a gentleman in this regard.

The next morning, Richard with Laura drove his car to his Grandma's place.

The place was a top wealthy residential area in the city. It spanned a huge area, but only fifteen households occupied the place. Each household probably secretly owned business empires.

As Richard was about to get out of the car, Laura spoke out of her mind. "What if your Grandma doesn't like me?"

"Don't worry! My grandma will like you," Richard said, unbuckling Laura out of her seatbelt.
