Yes, politics I

Charles Lauren Van Lowe

Three days have passed since I awaken after that dreadful day.

So here's the issue. Grane kingdom, a nation where I am prince, will surely fall. That is for certain. Not until I gain a knowledge or memory of 'someone' that have an insanely advance technology.

These knowledges are revolutionizing, that even the most useless technology they have could change the world's view of manufacturing. But of course, that is something I will keep for the time being.

In this world, there is magic. Magic means... well as we all know, is some sort of elemental phenomenon that exhibit strange behavior when it contact with nature.

This magic can be manipulated, controlled, and used by the people... or those who live under the blue sky of Areta. Areta, the world as I know of.

And that is another issue. Knowledge from my memory is created without the thought of magic. Most of which are invented for logical reasons.

Except faith.

This logical reasoning and inventions of my memory greatly contradicts this world's law. An unusual world where people could fly if they possess enough knowledge and power.

This could pose a potential problem to my future plans. I don't mean when it comes to flying, just overall things.

"Haa..."

For now, I have to keep this nation from collapsing then I'll recreate the knowledge and technology I have in mind.

The first thing is... talk to my foolish father once more.

"Father."

In the audience hall, where the greatest of all people meets the king. Here I lies, standing just below my father's throne above the red carpet.

"I'll have you control the foreign affairs and military or defense while I take care of this nation's economy and agriculture. Will that be fine?"

I can feel the cruciating stares of madness from the people inside the hall. And I know why they feel like that. As a fifth child and third in the line of the throne, I am currently asking the highest authority the king could ever give to his child.

"That's... fine. However, can you truly save our nation from its demise?"

My father look at me dead in the eyes, his magic exuding enormous power. Something that he kept very well hidden and not used.

"Hope so, father. With enough potent people, I could turn this nation upside down and bring its... former glory back."

"Hmm..."

Of course, they'll feel a sense of doubt. I have no problem with that. My father gave me the opportunity to turn this tide, I gave myself another chance to live a fulfilling life... unlike that pathetic person. A win-win trade for me.

I bow to excuse myself then return to my quarters shortly after getting myself some few documents of the reports. And just as I suspected, embezzlement runs rampant inside the bureaucracy.

With agriculture running at all time low, wool trade being at its gravely worst case, even the import of food is nowhere near sustainable for even the next year.

I hang my head, on my desk, a pile of documents awaits approval. I thought of something... something that is brutal yet efficient way of changing the people inside this place.

But, with its high reward lies a high risk of getting liable for them. If I don't play my card thoroughly and properly, I might accidentally show my weakness.

To do it, I have to hire myself a few capable underlings.

In my memory, the person seem to have read quite a few novel about this kind of situation, but those "main protagonist" that they call are all naive, mindless fools who thinks the world is colored as rainbow.

No one in their right mind will buy a slave and give them a position in the government, then expect them a full loyalty and faithfulness.

I have thought of one, but those two lady could be my enemy in the future if they think I have nothing clear to offer. I could offer my hand, but my value as a prince is yet to rise unless I show achievements of myself.

I could also call a few noble heir or just disposable pawns from their house and teach them basic political understanding, but that doesn't guarantee even a slight hint of loyalty.

To utilize this knowledge of mine, I have to bring myself into a new viewpoint of the world, something akin to a broader picture.

I would like to rule this nation with great fear and love, but I doubt it will work for a long time. I don't think an egalitarian society will also suffice as I have seen what it did from that person's memory.

I doubt conquering nations will also do its job. Rather, it might even prove problematic if seen as a sign of aggression and threat to larger powers.

So the thing I should do is create a nationwide educational program. Then hope that everyone will be capable of doing basic math in the next months or so and basic understanding of written language in the next year.

With that, I can produce a more proficient working force and possibly a better political underlings to support my plan.

But then, there will come a time where everyone will pursue an egalitarian society. Which inevitably leads to democracy.

"Haa..."

I have sighed too many just this day.

I have sigh quite a few times from the past four days I have gained this curse knowledge.

Why the hell am I even thinking about these things. Why can't I just let the 1st and 2nd prince do this. I could just give my knowledge to them in written form then have them fight each other who could utilize and produce the technology I can give them.

But then, even a harmless technology can be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.

*knock** knock*

A knock? Who could that be?

"Uhm... Prince Charles?"

A familiar lovely voice? Anastasia?

"Come in."

The door shriek as it opens, there reveal a beautiful blue-haired lady. The lady I slept and had fun with the night before that happened.

"Oh... I apologize for disturbing you. You must be busy. I'll be back—"

"No, please, do come in."

"But—"

"I insist."

The least thing I need is to die sighing myself out. I could always welcome a warm companion in this cold winter day.

"So... what could it be that you needed?"

The lady flustered in my question, she seem to have absent-mindedly approached my office. Just like her usual self.

Though that's a lovely personality feature of hers.

Green eyes, black hair, what colors could match perfectly except theirs. A nice pair of breast that unknowingly provoke my male instinct.

These are the traits of a potential political weapon. Something that could rise the poor house of viscount to a grandios one.

Not only that, there's two of them. A destructive power just on my grasp. I don't have any other reason to hesitate accepting their advances... except for the fact that they're probably here due to the latter reason.

A political weapon will always be a political weapon, and will always be owned by its original user.

"I have come in the behest of my father... He seeks fund for the farm that was attacked by bandits a few tendays ago."

Not even a small talk, huh. Right to the point. Although they have features that could be a weapon, they still lack the proper way of using it.

A smile escape my lips.

Still... the viscount could prove useful. Not only that, it could give me two of his finest daughters.

"And how much might that be? I have heard about the attack, its unfortunate, huh? A few dead left an incapable to work the lands."

Now that I thought about it, the agriculture almost have no food production. I know that this nation is yet to have textile industry, but I didn't know they are also so bad at producing food from crops.

Embezzlement, yes. But I doubt the viscount is heavily involve with it. He licks the shoes off the royal family after all.

And he's not the only one who have land for agriculture. Grane kingdom is quite large, perhaps larger than the modern nation of Poland according to the person's memory.

Ah... I have a great idea.
