Trinity was deeply shaken.
She always felt Lambert's smile was somewhat eerie, his words even more so, and the stark difference in his behavior was particularly unsettling. Yet, despite these oddities, no system issues could be identified... It was perplexing to the extreme!
As someone who sold robots, even though she had only been working for a few months, she had a basic understanding of robots. But Lambert's case was unprecedented. Why was that?
Trinity couldn't figure it out.
Lambert walked over to the window and remarked, "The weather is really nice today."
"Lambert, you... you're not a robot, are you?"
"I am a robot, guaranteed genuine."
"But... you... you're different from other robots, aren't you?"
"I am different from all the robots in this world."
So full of himself! Trinity was starting to feel exasperated. "Why? What makes you different?"
He glanced at her. His eyes were made of cameras and optical crystals, lifeless objects by all means, yet Trinity felt as if she could sense his gaze.
She pressed again, "How exactly are you different?"
"Stupid human, even if I told you, you wouldn't understand."
"Hey..."
Lambert said, "Since the weather is so nice, let's go for a walk."
"I'm not going."
"In that case, I'll go alone." With that, he floated towards the door handle.
A piece worth 4.3 million just going out like that. What if he doesn't come back? Trinity had to face the possibility of a significant financial loss.
She had to grab her jewelry bag and catch up with him. "Wait, put this on."
"I'm not wearing it."
"If you don't wear it, I'll be fined and lose everything!"
"Oh."
...
She really wanted to set this robot on fire! /(ㄒoㄒ)/~~ But thinking about the 4.3 million... Forget it, endure!
Trinity said, "Put on the jewelry, and I'll accompany you for a walk. You're not familiar with this area."
"Fine."
It was somewhat challenging to put a necklace or earrings on Lambert due to the height difference... So Trinity pinned a brooch on him.
It was mid-autumn, with high skies and thin clouds, cool air. Just after the National Day, there were still flowers around, and the pond water was clear, with two ducks resting.
Lambert still floated around Trinity like a little fairy.
Trinity felt a bit awkward. "Can you switch to walking mode?"
He paused and then changed to walking. Watching his slow, mechanical steps, Trinity suddenly felt oddly familiar. Finally, she saw a trace of a robot in this guy! What was this instant emotion...
After walking a few steps, Lambert remarked, "The joints are well made."
Trinity looked at him coldly. "I spent 4.3 million."
He looked back at Trinity with the same coldness. "I spent 430 billion."
"It's 4.3 million, and 430 billion could buy our entire group."
"Let's go."
The two continued walking. Trinity suddenly noticed that Lambert seemed to have been watching her all along. Moreover, his pace was matching hers—when she walked, he walked; when she stopped, he stopped too.
She halted her steps and looked at him strangely.
He also stopped.
Trinity asked, "Are you mimicking me?"
"No."
"Then walk by yourself and walk ahead."
Lambert walked ahead, and Trinity observed him awkwardly for a while before catching up and saying, "Don't mimic me. You're walking all dainty now. Mimic a man!"
"Where are the men?"
As they spoke, an honest-looking middle-aged man passed by. Lambert seized the opportunity and followed closely, his eyes fixed on the man.
The man noticed him and, thinking Lambert was up to no good, fled in fear.
Trinity stood still, watching Lambert not far away. The more she looked, the more she felt a chill down her spine.
— Lambert's walking posture was becoming more and more like that of a normal human.
The challenge of bipedal locomotion for robots had long been overcome, and current technology could even achieve unified speed and balance during walking. Yet here was Lambert, a robot, walking remarkably close to a human. It wasn't entirely identical because he had only recently learned to walk, and his steps were still somewhat awkward.
Trinity watched as he approached her, suddenly feeling a bit creepy.
Lambert carefully observed her facial expression and asked, "Are you scared?"
"Ah? No, no, no... I just think... it's so amazing! Hehehe..."
"Ignorant humans."
"Lambert, how did you do it?"
Lambert was somewhat impatient. "Let's go. Where are we going?"
"To... over there," Trinity pointed in a direction casually. "You walk ahead, and I'll follow you."
As Lambert walked ahead, Trinity used her phone to capture his walking posture. While she was snapping pictures, Lambert suddenly turned to look at her.
She hastily turned her phone away and looked at him, chuckling foolishly.
Maintaining his turned position, Lambert stared at her without moving. After a while, he suddenly said, "Your selfies look terrible."
"What does that even mean?" She caught up with him, casually asking.
Lambert ignored her.
Passing by a clothing store, Lambert said, "My clothes are too ugly. Buy me new ones."
"Dream on! I'm almost broke."
"As an exchange, I can have sex with you."
"Get lost..."
"Looks like you really are almost broke."
After thinking for a moment, Trinity said, "I'll buy you clothes, but as an exchange, you have to tell me how you managed to walk like that."
"Deal, it's a promise."
