He looks back at his scope again to engage at the enemy again, however, the number of the bandits tripled from 3 to 9.
IT'S AN AMBUSH!" he stuck out his head and shouts loudly. The knights heard what he said. They immediately took defensive positions.
"Princess, stay here while we fend off the bandits!" he grabs for his MCX-30 and gets off the carriage. He taps on the knight he came up to to get his attention.
"there are atleast 9 bandits approaching us!" he checked his ammunition count on his HUD to see if his ammo is enough to fend off the bandits.
"Let's make this count..." he aims his rifle at the bandits and pulls the trigger, the full auto wiped out 2 horsemen, including the horses. After emptying his mag, he took out a fresh mag and starts to dump all the ammo towards the remaining bandits.
It has only been a minute, most of the bandits were killed solely by Chester himself.
The rifle's high fire rate and its 30 round mag didn't go well as he keeps on reloaded quite often.
He reloads another mag and dumped most of its bullet on the last horseman retreating. After killing the last bandit, he sighed in relief.
"I'll go check them out!" he went out to check if the bandits are still alive. When he reached the bandits, one of them is still alive, 2 shots have been hit on his leg, the bandit screamed in pain, he immediately approached the wounded bandit to check his gunshot wounds, luckily it pierced through the leg.
"Damn it, i forgot the med kit!" he wanted to provide medical care to the wounded, however, when he taps on his back, he forgot that his bag that contains everything is at the carriage.
"Give me this!" he takes off the Bandit's cloak and rips off his shirt to turn it into some type of bandage to cover up his wounds.
"Hey, i know this shirt of yours may contain bacteria, and could possibly cause an infection, but it's probably better than leaving it open..." Chester then wrapped the wound with the cloth from the Bandit's shirt.
"Alright, that should be it-" suddenly he heard men shouting and swords clashing at the distance, he immediately turned around and ran back to check on the Princess and her Knights. When he's about to reach them, the shouting and the sounds of swords clashing stops.
"Shit, I'm too late." around 23 bandits have apprehended the Princess and her knights, He didn't know what to do after that.
"Keep your distance, don't get yourself caught!" Chester hears another voiceover in his mind.
"Use your sniper rifle. It'll strike fear into the hearts of these bandits." in Chester's HUD display, a notification tells him that his APXS-20mm is ready for use. He was confused since he left his bag and his rifle at the carriage, he taps on his back and was shocked to feel the cold hard steel of the rifle and the fabric of the bag.
"I have no idea what just happened, but anyways..." he pulls out his sniper rifle and sets up the tripod. His spotter scope is also ready for use, so he took it out in order to make his sniping easier.
"Alright, where are you, princess..." he looks for the princess and the one who has apprehended her through his spotter scope, he then spots her and the bandit grasping her. Distance is 165 meters. He aims down his scope, breathes in and gently pulls the trigger, his shot landed on the neck of the bandit, nearly hitting Elena's head, the force of the 20mm bullet splashed a lot of blood.
"Fuck!" he forgot that wind can be his enemy as a sniper. His heart skipped a beat for a moment after his shot almost killed Elena.
He pulls back the bolt and loads another bullet into the chamber, he looks for another target and fires. His shot landed on a bandit's chest.
"W-what is happening?!" one of the Bandits are terrified about their 2 comrades dying suddenly. Chester aims at the bandit and fires. blood are scattering around the ground.
"2 down, 21 to go..." The sniper has a slow rate of fire due to its manually operated bolt, so he decided to take out his assault rifle instead to take out multiple enemies easier. He sets the firing mode to semi-auto and operates the rifle as a marksman. he immediately went down in a prone position to stabilize his rifle and engages the remaining bandits.
A wooshing sound created by his bullets, accompanied by the screaming pain of the bandits getting shot, the remaining bandits tried to position themselves defensively, however, they couldn't see where Chester is since his camo blended well with the vegetation around him, Chester has killed around 12 bandits, they immediately flee in fear of getting the same fate as their comrades.
"Run for your lives! It's a ghost" one of them screamed in horror.
One bandit was running for his dear life when Chester's bullet hits his right foot and dropped down, the second bullet hit his right thigh and lastly, the third bullet hit his head, killing him.
"Stay down, dipshit..." When he was about to stand up, one of the bandits went back not to cause another trouble but to get his wounded comrade which Chester killed a few seconds ago. the bandit grieved for losing his comrade. When he was about to aim down his sights to kill the surviving bandit, he noticed that he got blood on his hands, he was awestruck by what he has done, it was his first time killing people with such a dangerous weapon.
"...No...what have i done....?" he dropped his blood stained MCX-30.
"Chester, this isn't a videogame....this isn't a videogame, this is real...the blood on your hands is real..." he keeps rephrasing such sentence in his mind.
To remove his guilt, he took off his bag, grabs a rubbing alcohol from his med kit and pours it on his bloodstained uniform and his weapon and wipes it aggressively, but the stain remained. The blood came from the bandit who he just patched up a few moments ago.
"...No...No no no, it won't come off..." no matter how hard he tried to wipe it off, the stain wouldn't budge.
"Soldier, this is not the time to grieve for the enemy." a voiceover was heard in his mind.
"Check up on the princess and her guards." the voiceover tells Chester to get up and check on them for injuries, Chester ignored the voiceover however.
"Soldier, get up and check on the princess!" the voiceover tells him again, Chester ignored the voiceover and keeps on rubbing the stain.
"Are you daft?! I said get up and check up on them!" the voiceover expressed anger to Chester for ignoring his orders, finally, Chester obliged.
"...Yes sir..." he stood up and arranges his things and equipment in his bag.
He walked up to the Princess and her knights to check up on them, one of the knights have a stab wound on his stomach, Serena tried to help the knight out, he immediately ran up to the wounded knight, dropped his bag and took out his med kit, however, the knight's armor is making it difficult for him to apply a bandage.
"Serena, take off his armor!" Chester instructs Serena to remove the armor, and Serena immediately took off every part of the armor of the knight. When he got a closer look at the stab wound, the color surrounding the wound turned dark.
"Fuck..." he couldn't believe what he was seeing right now, he haven't seen an infected wound back in his past life, just seeing it for the first time frightened him.
"His wounds are infected..." he then observes the breathing of the wounded, the wounded knight is breathing heavily which tells Chester that the wounded knight is having trouble with breathing, the veins of the knight turned blue.
"The sword which is used to stab him is poisoned." Chester assumes as stab wounds cannot get infected that easily or faster.
"P-poisoned?!" Serena was shocked to hear Chester's words.
"Yes, poisoned...even if i patch up the wound, the infection has spread out through his bloodstream..." Chester uttered
"W-what? Chester i don't understand..." Serena didn't understand a single thing Chester is saying.
"He'll die despite patching up his wounds ." he pointed out at the knight's veins which became dark blue in color. Serena can't believe what she's seeing.
For the wounded knight, he couldn't bear with the pain the poison has inflicted on his body, he wanted Serena to end his life.
"S-Serena, kill me please..." the knight grabs onto Serena's collar.
"I-I can't..." she uttered.
She then looks at Chester and asks him what can they do to help him.
"..." Chester was silent.
"Chester, can we still help him out without taking his life?" Serena asks Chester.
"... unfortunately no, there's nothing we can do anymore, my medkit only contains the essentials that can patch up a wound, not for detoxification...even if i have the available equipment to do so, we don't know how the poison can even react to the antibodies..." Chester's response broke Serena, she uttered no as she couldn't bear to loose a knight she well knew.
"Soldier, the poison can become unbearable for him. It's better to kill him than make him suffer for more minutes." the voiceover recommended Chester to kill the knight. He takes a glance at his MCX-30 rifle.
"Nah, it's too big for her to handle..." he went to his armory bag and looks for a handgun. He stumbles upon a .50 pistol, a high caliber pistol, he swapped the MCX-30 for the .50 QX pistol as for the moment. He inspects the weapon and stood up and approached Serena.
"Serena..." he taps on Serena's shoulder, she raises her head up and took a glance of Chester's pistol on his hand, he's gesturing her to take the gun.
"Take it..." Chester said.
She took the gun from his hand, she thought that it's a tool that could help the knight, her hopes went high up until Chester said, "This will end his suffering, aim it at his head and pull the trigger..." when Chester said that she must aim for the head, her eyes grew wide open, she tries to protest on Chester, "C-Chester-" suddenly Elena grabbed her shoulder, "Serena, it's better to take his life than letting him suffer, i believe Chester gave you his weapon because it will be more Honourable to do it yourself than Chester... We'll held a burial ceremony for him when we get back." after that, she turned her head to the wounded, she couldn't bear it seeing him gasping for life so she aimed the pistol to his head, Chester assisted her by placing himself to her back, holding her arm that she used to hold the gun to stabilize the recoil. After he's prepared, he turned his face to the side so that he won't be seeing someone getting killed in front of him, "Serena, put your finger at the trigger, and pull..." he instructed her, she nervously pulls the trigger and fires the gun, the shot landed a direct hit to the head, finally relieving the wounded from suffering, blood scattered on the ground and splattered onto Serena and Chester's face.
Those who witnessed the execution gave their sympathies to Serena, at the same time, frightened by how Chester's weapon can kill with one shot despite the size of the weapon. Chester stood back from Serena and took the gun from her hands. "M-maybe you should patch up the gunshot wound." he walks to his bag, grabs a bandage from his kit and gives it to Serena,
"Serena, wrap this around the wound..." he said. She took the bandage and patches up the corpse.
"Soldier, there's a low possibility of an ambush but never zero as of now, I suggest you scout ahead for the carriage."
"R-Roger..." Serena heard Chester saying something, "What's wrong, Chester?" she asks. "I'll be scouting ahead to provide reconnaissance." he replied. Chester took out a device from his Armory bag and gave it to Serena. She was confused at first, but he explained to her what it is. "This is a radio, this helps in communicating at longer distances, just push this button to talk." he explained to her, which Serena understood.
he sighed, "Alright, when i tell you that it's clear, move out." he left his final words to Serena and walked out, disappearing in the distance. Chester sets his mission to protect the Carriage. This is his first mission minutes after being reincarnated in this world.
