chapter 36;Finding the truth

Brian p.o.v

Once I got home, I took a quick shower, prepared some clothes for yunus, took my phone charger and some snacks, as I filled my gym bag with the clothes and things I needed because I wasn't sure how long I was going to leave when curiosity took  the best of me.

As I walked towards mom's room, I was debating whether I should enter or not but curiously enough I found myself opening her door and I looked around for anything that could tell me about the mystery man.

Luckily one of her drawers was open so I opened it and found a metal box, it had a lock so I looked around for a key.

I found it in one of her jewelry box and tried to open it, which after few attempts I opened it.

I looked at it and saw letters and photos of mom when she was young until her college years,that's when my eyes caught a familiar face.

It was the guy who came to see mom, he looked young and was standing next to mom with the rest of the students wearing a graduation gown.

As I looked for more pictures, I found one where she was wearing a beautiful black dress and standing together with the guy and this time they were holding hands like couples.

I wondered if the guy in the picture was somehow related to me as his eyes looked like mine.

Questions were racing in my head as I tried to think of how I would find this man and find answers to this questions.

"You seem surprise to see that right?" Asked a man as he stood behind me. I knew it was him by his voice so I slowly turned around to look at him.

"You don't need to be afraid of me Brian am here to tell you something but your mom is so protective of you" he said as he came inside the room.

I quickly stood up and walked on the other side of the room hoping to get away from him.

"I know you're curious to know about me and why I came back after so many years "he said as he wanted to get closer to me.

"Stay where you're, I don't know you and it's best if I don't know what you want from me because am not interested " I said trying not to look scared as my heart raced.

"I understand that but I know you want to know the truth so please hear me out" he pleaded.

"I wont listen but you'll listen to me first, why do want yo kill my mom for ?what did she do that you almost poisoned her to death?" I asked him as tears fell down my cheek.

"W...what...ar..what are you saying son? Poison your mom? Do you think am capable of that did she tell you that?" He asked confused as though he had no idea what I was talking about.

"You followed us yo the hospital and poisoned her what for? Or maybe paid someone to do it for you tell me the truth now" I demanded him to say something but he remained shocked.

"Don't pretend that you care for her and what's your relationship with her anyway?" I asked as he sat on the bed with his head looking down.

"I would never hurt your mom, I don't know what she told you about me but am innocent and am your dad" he said as he kept looking down.

I was taken back by his sudden confession, he said that he was my dad but how's that even possible.

"That's a lie,you can't be him,he's...d" I stopped.

"You're mom lied to you, am not dead, I was arrested for crime I witnessed but was accused of committing it your mom served ties with me and never came to visit me even once" he said.

"B..but wh..why would she do that and said that you died in an accident?" I asked as I wanted to know the truth now.

Knowing the man sitting in front of me claimed to be my dad, my question was why mom didn't tell me about it and instead lied that he died before I was born.

"I know you have many questions but for now its best if you don't know you have to take care of her" he said as he walked out of the room.

I was still shocked by his confession but I wanted to know more, by the way he reacted after I accused him for poisoning her, he looked worried and left.

He didn't do or say anything afterwards, I ran after him but he disappeared as I looked around for him.

I hoped to see him soon but I was more furious with mom from hiding his existence like he was dead but he was in jail this whole time.

I was turned apart by this situation where mom was still unconscious in hospital and this man appearing in my life out of nowhere.

It surely is a surprising event for me after joining college for a few weeks now. After standing outside for a while and the man didn't come back I decided to go back to the hospital.

I came back inside and took my gym bag where I had put some clothes and necessary items that I needed since  had no idea how long she will remain unconscious more like in coma.

I locked the house and left for the hospital, as I reached the hospital after an hour due to the jam.

I walked towards the entrance when I spotted a familiar faces, it was samra and Sophia with a guy talking or arguing about something.

The guys back was facing me so I couldn't tell who it was but as I got closer, I called Sophia and the guy turned around to look at me.

My feet froze on the spot as the person who turned around looked familiar, I never realized that I would see him again. Its been years since we last saw each other.

"Cody?" I asked as I wanted to he sure if it was really him.

He smiled at me as he walked to me and we hugged in manly hands and did our secret hand shake and looked at Samra and Sophia who looked confused at us.

"Oh sorry this is my childhood friend cody" I introduced him to them, samra smiled at him but Sophia looked confused at him.

"Wait wait I thought you said your name was Alvarado and now cody were you given two different names or are you from interracial parents?" She asked as she looked at him.

"Yes my mom is Mexican and my dad is American so they both gave me those name and I only said Alvarado to get your attention but its really co.." he was about to say his name when someone screamed from behind.

"Oh my God! Cody, I can't believe it's you"martha screamed as she ran towards us.

"Martha? What are you doing here?" Cody asked as he looked confused and so were we.

"I study at here and what about you and how do you know my friends?" She asked as she looked at us.

"I could ask you the same but am friends with Brian, I guess these two are your friends?" He asked as he pointed at Sophia and samra.

"You never told me you knew brian and it's good to see you here" she said as she punched his arm playfully like she was flirting with him.

"How do you guys know each other?" I asked as I wanted to know how she knew cody.

"We met on a beach in  Hawaii last year, I never thought that we would meet here are you visiting someone here?" She asked as she pointed at the hospital.

"No no I came to apply for a job, and I luckily got in" he said.

"Congratulations, I didn't know you studied to be a doctor, I thought you were going to be a business man and take over your dad's company " I said as I knew he was from a rich family.

"No actually, that was dad's dream mine was to be a neurologist " he said proudly.

"And you what have you been up to?" He asked.

"I just joined college but unfortunately mom became sick so am here to take care of her" I said as I didn't want to look at him.

"Sorry to hear that man, how is she now?" He asked as he tapped my shoulder.

"Brian, Brian, you came, am hungry " yunus came to me out of nowhere.

"Hey buddy, where have you been?" I asked as I bowed to his level.

"He looked bored so I took him to play with some kids on the ground " samra said.

"Thanks guys for staying back and sorry for ruining your day" I apologised as I took yunus hand.

"I don't mind staying with you, do you?" Samra asked as she stepped forward.

"I would love to stay too but I have to prepare myself for work since I'll be here tomorrow I'll make sure to come and see you" cody said as he looked at his watch.

"Its ok, I'll see you tomorrow then and thanks again for today " I said as I was about to go in samra stopped me and turned to look at Martha.

"By the way Martha how did it go with your boyfriend did you see him?" She asked her but Martha didn't reply.

"I'll text you later,I better go before the curfew starts " she said and left.

"Same here, I don't want to get in trouble, I missed the chemistry class so I I better leave see you tomorrow " Sophia said as she waved goodbye.

After what happened today, I couldn't stop thinking about the man, I surely hope that mom would wake up soon and tell me the truth herself.

"What's the big secret that my parents are hiding that is confusing me,please Allah help me find the truth about everything.....
