Chapter 010: Enhancement of Five Senses

Lin Huixin was taken aback by this unexpected requirement of the system, just as she was about to spend her points to exchange for some magical items. She immediately stopped in her tracks.

"I am the host, and the host should be the master. Why is it that as the host, I have been subjected to less freedom than Fate Partner?" Lin Huixin was quite dissatisfied.

The system, in its infinite wisdom, tried to soothe her ruffled feathers, "Host, this requirement is insignificant compared to what you have gained. Moreover, once your Capture Value reaches 100, you can freely use the items in the store. What you should care about at this moment is not the system's restrictions on you, but how to win over the Fate Partner and reach 100 Capture Value."

Lin Huixin now understood that everything the system offered was meant to please the Fate Partner. The items were bait, the tasks were fishing lines, and Liu Xinyu was the fishing rod. And she herself was the fish that took the bait.

"What benefits are there in doing all this?" Lin Huixin was now completely convinced that Liu Xinyu was not behind the system. With such a miraculous system and amazing items, if it was only meant to mess with her, he could easily make her wish she were dead with a flick of his finger. There was no need for all this trouble. Therefore, Liu Xinyu must be just an ordinary person, someone whose fate was coincidentally intertwined with hers.

"Deducting 5 points for curiosity," the system jested. "It's a secret of the system's core existence. No further comments!" To her surprise, the system went on, "To break free from my shackles, or to achieve all your desires, do your best to win over the Fate Partner."

Lin Huixin sat in her chair, her gaze flickering, pondering something unknown.

Exiting Lin Huixin office, Liu Xinyu was met with a sonorous message in his mind, signalling the completion of Lin Huixin's task. As per the system's indication, once the subsystem's owner completes a task, Liu Xinyu could be in for a chance to earn a random reward. The nature of this reward remained unknown, but he decided to defer the anticipation, opting first to transition into his new role.

With a humorous twist of events, Lin Huixin decided to appoint Liu Xinyu as her personal secretary, leaving the petite secretary, Xiao Wu, in a state of bewilderment. Xiao Wu, officially named Wu Keke, was a 23-year-old lady exuding an aura of sweet innocence and charming elegance that could easily turn heads in the streets. She also had a cool and capable aura, particularly attractive to young men. However, when put next to Lin Huixin, she appeared as a fledgling bird yet to learn to fly.

Seeing Wu Keke's flabbergasted expression, Liu Xinyu light-heartedly jested, "Secretary Wu, with your mouth hanging open so wide, are you planning on swallowing me whole?"

Recovering from her shock, Wu Keke shot a quick retort at Liu Xinyu, reminding him, "Mind your language, Liu Xinyu, we are in the office."

"I'll help you transition roles; your new workplace will be right next to mine. You should fetch your belongings."

Liu Xinyu smiled, exchanged a few words, and departed for the planning department.

Upon his arrival, Chen Xixia immediately hustled over to him, curiosity spilling from his eyes, "Xinyu, why did Chairman Lin summon you? Do you know her personally?"

With a wistful pause, Liu Xinyu responded with a hint of melancholy, "I may not be working with you guys anymore."

Taken aback by Liu Xinyu's confession, the faces of the surrounding personnel flushed with surprise, closely followed by waves of glee. The room was abuzz with whispers, speculation that Liu Xinyu was fired by none other than Chairman Lin herself. Questions sprang up about what a common employee like Liu Xinyu could have possibly done to warrant a personal dismissal by the Chairman.

As the discussion reached a fever pitch, Chen Xixia finally interjected with a note of concern, "Xinyu, were you really fired?"

Smiling at the reactions around him, Liu Xinyu finally clarified, "I wasn't fired. Rather, Chairman Lin believes in my capabilities and has decided to make me her personal secretary."

He then turned to Chen Xixia, "Xixia, I've been promoted. I'll treat you to dinner when we find time."

The room descended into a state of stupefaction. From being a regular employee to becoming the Chairman's personal secretary was akin to the palace eunuch becoming the emperor's right-hand man.

The gossip mongers fell silent, their earlier comments now haunting them. Even Chen Xixia was pleasantly surprised, "Really, Xinyu? Congratulations, you are amazing!"

Liu Xinyu let out a laugh that echoed around the room, prompting a light-hearted sense of surprise to hang in the air. At this moment, the Manager of the Planning Department sauntered over, sporting a grin wide enough to stretch from one ear to the other. Grasping Liu Xinyu's hand with a firm yet friendly shake, the manager then led him to the Human Resources department for a peculiar sort of exchange.

In the wake of this event, disbelief became an extinct species in the office. The employees began to chatter amongst themselves, their expressions mirroring those of someone who'd just witnessed a unicorn dancing a jolly jig. The very folks who had been murmuring sarcastically about Liu Xinyu's bravado were now trembling like leaves in the autumn wind, contemplating if, and how, they could possibly smooth things over with him.

Upon switching positions, Liu Xinyu underwent a professional metamorphosis of sorts, transforming from an ordinary employee to the personal secretary of Lin Huixin. However, his new role was not the typical secretary one might envision. Instead, he found himself responsible for managing Lin Huixin's various travels and providing other services, whilst the bulk of the company's scheduling was dutifully handled by Wu Keke.

And so, with the myriad responsibilities split between the trio, Liu Xinyu found himself with an unexpected surplus of free time. Arriving at his new workstation, he found Wu Keke busier than a beaver in a log factory. She tossed a brief comment his way before submerging herself back into her work, leaving Liu Xinyu to twiddle his thumbs in the company of an uneventful silence.

As he watched Wu Keke bustling around in her office-lady attire, exuding an air of graceful efficiency, Liu Xinyu found himself musing that taking on some of a secretary's duties in his spare time wouldn't be such a terrible idea.

Yet, for the time being, these remained as mere thoughts. After all, he was still just an ordinary man. His ultimate destination depended heavily on Lin Huixin. With nothing much to do, Liu Xinyu decided to inspect the reward he had earned following the successful completion of Lin Huixin's task.

"System, I'd like to spin the lottery!" Liu Xinyu mentally broadcasted.

A spinning wheel materialized in his mind, its surface littered with an array of rewards, ranging from superhuman abilities to extraordinary trinkets. His eyes greedily scanned over the list of potential prizes as he quietly murmured, "Let the spin begin!"

The wheel began to whirl with fervour, gradually decelerating until it came to a full stop. The needle pointed unerringly to one reward - "Enhanced Five Senses."

Liu Xinyu found himself puzzled, "What exactly is this?" Out of the myriad abilities and items etched on the spinning wheel, he didn't dare to dream of landing an extraordinary prize at his first attempt. However, this ability seemed rather ordinary in comparison.

The system remained mysteriously silent, providing no explanation. Almost instantaneously, Liu Xinyu felt a warm current swirling within his body, eventually dissipating into nothingness. When he came back to his senses, he discovered that his eyesight had improved drastically, his hearing was sharper, his sense of smell more acute, and even his mind seemed to be working with unprecedented clarity.

Upon focusing, he could see the minute details of Wu Keke's skin, hear the muffled sound of Lin Huixin's conversation in the next room, and even smell the faint aroma of shampoo wafting from Wu Keke's hair from several meters away. What's more, complex problems that had previously seemed insurmountable now unfurled effortlessly in his mind, revealing their solutions with startling speed.

"So this is what 'Enhanced Five Senses' means. If I didn't have this system and simply possessed this ability, I could still make quite a name for myself in society," Liu Xinyu mused with admiration. This was the power of the system - even the most inconsequential ability could trigger a profound transformation.

As the minutes rolled into hours, the afternoon soon arrived. The door to Lin Huixin's office swung open, prompting Liu Xinyu and Wu Keke to rise to their feet in tandem.
