With that final question hanging in the air, Alex drifted off to sleep.
"Huh?"
A jolt of shock ripped through Alex, his eyes snapping open. He wasn't in his bed anymore; he found himself back in the empty void, the stark white expanse stretching endlessly around him. Panic clawed at his throat for a moment before he recognized the figure standing across from him – Nexus.
"Wake up..." the voice echoed, devoid of any warmth or emotion.
Alex scrambled to his feet, heart pounding. "...Nexus?" he stammered, his voice rough with sleep and surprise.
A flicker of amusement, if it could be called that, crossed the Nexus' face. "Yes, you are in the central hub of the Nexus."
"...oh, hey," Alex managed, forcing a semblance of calm. The sudden shift from his bed to this unsettling void space was disorienting.
The Nexus tilted its head, its empty eyes seeming to bore into Alex. "So, what do you intend to do with that power?"
