Abilities [PART 2]

DAZAREE's

The sun is about to set in just a few minutes and Dazaree didn't want to stay in her room anymore so she decided to roam around the apartment and found out that it has a rooftop. She happily looked around from the top to see the houses, buildings, vehicles, and the few people walking in the streets.

She closed her eyes and open her arms to welcome the cold wind. For no apparent reason, she finds stillness and tranquility as the wind continues to embrace her petite body.

There is a long wooden bench in the center of the rooftop, as well as a large wooden table with several lined flower pots in various colors. Nana Seling really likes plants, she thought. They could probably get along because she has plants too.

"I planted those." she jumped when someone abruptly talked behind her back and said, "Goodness, Troye. I didn't notice you," when she realized it was Troye.

He chuckled because of her reaction. "You were too focused on what you were doing."

Troye was actually been watching her from behind. He just wanted her to enjoy the view so he waited for a while before approaching her.

"How long have you been there?" she queried.

"Not long," he answered and bent his knees to reach the plants on the cement floor and touched them.

Dazaree sat on the bench as she stared at what he's doing. "So… those are your plants and the other plants inside the apartment?" she inquired.

"All the plants here on the rooftop are mine but the plants inside the apartment are Nana's." He explained and beamed.

"I see. You both like plants too."

"Yes, indeed. We have a lot in common, which makes it easier for us to get along," he stated. Troye was well aware of Nana Seling's generosity due to the seven years they had spent together.

Looking at him from a distance gives Dazaree the impression that he resembles someone, but she couldn't place it.

Troye heard what she was thinking and replied, "Maui said I reminded him of a celebrity he knows. Maybe I have a lot of lookalikes." He chortled upon remembering his friend Maui.

"You read my mind again," Dazaree marveled.

"I don't really mean it, believe me," he explained, making her snicker. Troye was worried that Dazaree might think that he was doing it on purpose when in fact, he wasn't.

"What's funny?" he asked. Dazaree couldn't help but smile because of his innocent reaction.

"You got flustered easily by what I said but Fablo's anger didn't even faze you," I said.

"Oh that. We've been together for eight years so I'm used to him and it's also my first time having a female friend," he stated with a sheepish smile.

She gazed at the setting sun and beamed, "Must be nice to have someone who cares for you."

It's so beautiful, she thought. She had never appreciated sunsets before because she's always inside. Troye looked at her and grinned. "You are part of us now. We care for you," he said.

She looked at him and felt a lump formed in her throat, an indication that she's going to cry the moment she tries to speak so she heaved a deep sigh and looked at him again before speaking.

"Thank you for everything," she uttered before returning her gaze to the setting sun. Troye smiled and did the same. Their eyes glisten as they watch the dusk together.

"You know what, I'm really curious how your power works. How can you hear someone's thoughts?" Dazaree abruptly said while she's watching the stars appear in the night sky.

There are so many stars! she said to herself.

Troye answered, "Oh that. Hearing people's thoughts is just a technique that only someone with telekinetic ability can do. It's a technique I learned growing up."

"Woah. So you've found out about your power ever since you are a kid?" she said and turned around to looked at him.

"Yeah," he replied and chuckled.

She looked at him "How do you do it?" she queried.

"Well, I have to activate the technique here." he pointed his head. "It's hard to explain it but it needs a lot of concentration to master it. Activating it will allow me to dig in someone's head."

"So, you purposely did that to dig in my thoughts?" Dazaree asked while knitting her eyebrows.

"No. That's how I hear normal people's thoughts. You are a different case. In dealing with people like us, I don't really need to activate the technique to hear your thoughts. I automatically hear it when you are near." he explained.

Her eyes widened in amusement, "So that's why you are sure that I'm an ally! That's why you trusted me."

"Yep. That's how I know if someone is normal or special." He stated and looked at the sky again as thoughts run through his mind. This is probably the answer to all his questions ever since he was a child. Perhaps he was endowed with the ability to locate and assist others.

Dazaree who was astounded by his ability, queried, "Do you have other telekinetic techniques that you can use?" Astonished by his ability, she hoped that her ability is as innocuous as his.

"Yeah, I can do another technique. I can contact someone through my mind if they are just a kilometer away." He explained.

"Oh, that's why I can hear your voice inside my head!" she exclaimed in excitement.

Troye beamed and answered, "Yep. That's how I found you,"

"How did you do that?"

"I have a photographic memory. Once I remember someone's face, I just need few minutes to concentrate and I'll be able to reach them," he explained.

"That was so cool! I wish I can do that too." Dazaree and grinned and look at the sky once again. She wished she had a better power instead of what she has now. A power that wouldn't hurt anyone. Perhaps something she can easily control.

"Your ability is what is making you special," Troye said, trying to console her.

"Yes, you are correct, but I have learned nothing from it. I nearly killed my aunt with it, and the last time I used it, I injured Kithe," she lamented.

"You'll find out eventually. Learning your own power really takes time. You have to work hard for it, although some people are naturally talented." he said and looked at the sky as if he's trying to recall a memory.

Dazaree was amused with he said and queried, "You've met someone who can control their power easily?"

"Yeah, I did. Back when I was a kid," he answered and smiled.

"Where is that person? Is it Fablo?".

He gazed at her and replied, "No. Not Fablo. I just met that kid once and I can still remember how he easily controlled his power even tho I think he's just a year older than me. He saved me and that's the last time I saw him."

"Oh, I see. I never thought there are a lot of people like us," she answered said and looked at her own palms. She beamed. "Knowing this makes it easier for me to accept who I am now. It makes me want to meet all people like us."

She returned his gaze back to him and exchange smiles with Troye. Now I have real friends and family, she thought.

They both look at the sky and grinned. Troye knew that people like them might've experienced the same thing so he wants to find and help them in any way he can. He thought of it as a goal, or maybe, a life purpose.
