Chapter 18: Dangers on the Road

The air was still heavy with the stench of battle as the survivors of Hudson Falls gathered what little they had left. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the ruined town, while George, Raven, Lucy, and Jackie worked alongside the town's remaining residents. The once quiet lakeside town now bore the scars of war, bodies of fishmen and fallen townspeople lay strewn across the ground, buildings were broken and battered, and the air was thick with the smell of blood and charred wood.

"We can't stay here another night," said Henry, an older man with a grizzled beard and sunken eyes. His voice trembled slightly, but he spoke with conviction. "Those things will come back... they always do."

George nodded in agreement, wiping sweat and blood from his brow. "We'll help you pack up whatever supplies you have left. But we need to move fast."
