One step forward, two steps back. That was all Elle could think as she walked into the living room and found Gio curled up on the carpet.
They had been warned of course, that the hearing aid would not be a miracle fix. That for it to be truly useful Gio would have to wear the device for several hours each day.
But that had all been before the absolute nightmare that had become Gio's first experience with his hearing aids. For as long as she lived, Elle would never forget the look of pure devastation and betrayal in Gio's voice when he'd first heard her voice. Seeing him so heartbroken, it had been as though the two of them had been duped despite having been told beforehand that the hearing aids were not all around problem solver.
And at the time, both she and Gio had nodded enthusiastically, thinking it would be almost similar to getting used to a new pair of shoes. Wear them enough and pretty soon they will fit you like a glove.
