Every day, Bahamut, both in the morning and at night, patrolled the Wall to measure how rapidly the magic holding the great icy structure was weakening. This routine explained how he managed to cross the Wall, revealing that the magic restraining dragons was waning. The walls could no longer hold back dragons, much like how the Night King used an undead dragon to breach the Wall.
After casting another glance towards beyond the Wall, Bahamut descended to meet Jon. The previous night, he refrained from bothering Jon due to his ongoing family reunion. As he approached Jon, he noticed Jon and Yigritte sharing a private moment, avoiding the company of others. Bahamut patiently waited for their tender moment to conclude, but the situation escalated, prompting him to make a noise to alert them to his presence. When both noticed him, they rose, and Yigritte quickly adjusted her clothes. After playfully slapping Jon's backside, Yigritte left the room, casting a knowing glance at Bahamut while he smiled at Jon.
Bahamut could clearly discern the embarrassment and shame on Jon's face for being caught breaking his vows. Choosing not to tease Jon about it, Bahamut simply spoke as he started to walk away, "Aemon, come with me." Following Bahamut's request, Jon accompanied him. They walked outside the gates of Castle Black, passing through the Wildling camps without any trouble.
As they reached an open space, Bahamut came to a stop, and Jon followed suit. Aithusa, playing with Wildling children, approached them. Bahamut gently took Aithusa into his hand and signaled for the children to leave. Turning to Jon, Bahamut said, "Aemon Targaryen of House Targaryen, second in line to the Throne.".
Jon gazed at Bahamut, sensing the weight of the impending words. Bahamut spoke with a smile, "When this war is over, there won't be the Night's Watch. The vows tied to the Wall will be no more. You, as a descendant of House Targaryen, will be free. You can return to your own family, the red-haired girl included. Do you agree?" Jon remained silent, processing the unexpected proposition. Bahamut continued, "Agree or not, if not for me, you would have been dead. Besides, as a Targaryen, you should have a dragon companion. Without one, you'd be called 'Unworthy.' Am I wrong?"
Jon, contemplating Bahamut's words, glanced at Aithusa, suspecting that Bahamut was hinting at a dragon companion. Suddenly, a mighty roar echoed through the sky, capturing the attention of not just Jon but also the Wildlings and Northerners nearby. Diaval, responding to Bahamut's summons, descended from the sky and circled around Bahamut and Jon before landing beside Bahamut. Jon stood in awe, confronted by the presence of another dragon, whose formidable appearance contrasted with the majestic Bahamut draconic form.
Diaval, sensing a familiarity in Jon akin to Aegon and Rhaenys, grew curious and approached Jon. As Diaval drew near, Jon could feel his legs losing strength, barely holding him upright. The massive dragon, larger than grown Drogon in the last season, took deliberate steps closer to Jon. Bahamut, maintaining his position, observed the unfolding scene, confident that Jon, despite his initial apprehension, would learn to navigate this unique situation.
With a pleading glance toward Bahamut, Jon silently communicated his readiness to draw his sword for defense if needed. In response, Bahamut calmly instructed, "Jon, climb Diaval's back." Jon stared at Bahamut in disbelief, struggling to comprehend the unexpected directive. Bahamut anticipated Jon's reaction, recognizing the stark contrast between Jon's youth and the seasoned experiences of the character from the series.
To Jon's trepidation, he found himself levitating in the air, drawn toward the back of Diaval. It was then that Bahamut noticed the absence of a saddle on Diaval's back—a potential challenge for Jon's maiden dragon flight, given that Diaval had never borne a rider before. Seated on Diaval's back, Jon looked around nervously. Displaying a touch of sympathy, Bahamut addressed him, "Aemon, hold tight where you can, so you won't fall. Among my kids, he's the one who's hard to rein in. I hope you have a safe flight."
Without further ado, Diaval started to run, propelling Jon into the sky, eliciting screams of both terror and exhilaration from him. Observing the spectacle, the Northerners and Wildlings watched as Jon soared into the sky. Adding to the excitement, Bahamut joined the airborne display, transforming into a dragon mid-air, accompanied by Aithusa on his back. Starks emerged from the castle to witness the spectacle, and for the first time, Robb couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as he saw Jon riding a dragon with regal grace. Meanwhile, Eddard Stark's thoughts turned to his sister, a smile gracing his face at the remarkable sight.
