Chapter 4: Confession

Chapter Four: Confession

'Lau-ra? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the party?' Matt stuttered.

'I should be asking you the same thing. Uncle Mark said you didn't want to attend the party so I came to drag you along.' Laura pouted.

'Oh I see…. Where's Collin?' He asked

'He would be here soon.' She replied.

'Okay. By the way….. y-you look beautiful.' Matt complimented and she blushed.

'Really? Thank you.' She smiled brightly.

'Ah my manners! Please come in.' Matt made way for her to come in.

'Thank you.' Laura smiled and settled herself on the sofa.

'So what would you like to take? Soda? Or uhm… alcohol or ehn…spirit?' Matt rambled.

'Alcohol? Spirit?! Matt, are you out of your mind?' Laura exclaimed wide eyed.

'Uhm… uhm, I'm sorry I didn't mean to…' He was cut off when he heard her laughter. 'Why-why are you laughing?' Matt asked.

'You look really cute when you're nervous.' She chuckled and Matthew's ears burned red. 'There's no need to get nervous Matt, it's just a party.' Laura added.

'Y-yeah sure.' Matt blinked. 'Are you sure you don't need anything?' He asked.

'Yeah sure. And if i wanted something, I'd get it myself after all I'm no visitor so just go in and get dressed.' She urged.

'Oh okay… alright.' Matt spoke and dashed out of the living room. As soon as he got into his room, he slammed the door and sank on his bed to catch his breath.

'Racing heart, running mind, sweating palms, burning skin… oh my god I'm going crazy!' Matt wailed.

'Matt are you alright in there?!' He heard her voice.

'Eh? Y-Yeah! Sure, I'm okay!' He yelled back.

'Okay then, just hurry up. I don't want to miss the dance!' Laura replied.

'Alright, you won't miss the…. dance.' Something rung a bell. 'The dance! Yeah the dance! I could use that.' He spoke to himself.

Without thinking, Matthew dashed out of his room again.

'Laura…' he called out panting.

'Eh? What's wrong? And why aren't you dressed yet?' She frowned.

'Uhm… I just.. I have something to tell you.' He replied.

'What is it?' She stood up from the sofa.

'Uhm… I-I wanted to know if you'd like to have a dance with me when we get to the hall.' He swallowed.

'Yeah sure… everyone's gonna dance at the party.' She shrugged.

'No no, I don't mean that way.'

'Then how?' She scrutinized him.

'Eh… I-I like you. I like you Laura and I want you to be my girlfriend.' Matt spoke as fast as he could before he could change his mind. He even shut his eyes tightly as he dread what her answer would be.

After a long moment of silence … he opened his eyes.

'Laura..?' He called out her name when he saw drops of tears rolling down her rosy cheeks. 'Are you okay?' He leaned in.

'I'm just… I'm just so speechless right now. The truth is, I've had a crush on you Matt for a very long time but I was scared to tell you because I didn't know how you were gonna react and also you treat me like family. So you telling me this right now…. You don't know how overjoyed I am.' She chuckled as she blinked few more tears.

'R-really?' Bewildered Matthew asked.

'Yes.' She nodded.

'Oh my.' He drew a long relieved sigh. 'It's the same for me Laura, you don't know how long I've tried to compress this feeling but I couldn't take it anymore and more so my uncle told me it was better for me to tell you.' Matt smiled.

'W-what? Uncle Mark knows about this?'

'Yes he does.'

'Oh my' she gasped.

'There's no need to worry, Laura.' He wiped the remnants of tears on her cheeks. 'So does this mean…?'

'Yes! Yes Matthew, I'd be your girlfriend.' She chuckled.

'Oh my… thank you so much Laura.' He embraced her tightly.

'What about Collin?' Laura gasped as she pulled away.

'What about him?' Matt frowned.

'What are we gonna tell him?' Laura asked.

'Don't worry about Collin, Laura. I'm sure he'd be happy for us.' Matt smiled and she returned his smile.

'I finally feel at ease now. I think I'm going to have no sleepless nights from now on.' Matt spoke and they both chuckled.

This is the moment he's been waiting for. The moment when he stares deeply into her big brown eyes and she stares at his, the moment he holds her and pulls her closer, the moment when sparks fly around them as their lips slowly and steadily meet. Oh! That tantalizing, sweet scent and taste of her lips was making him drown in waves of pleasure.

Few seconds later, the loud knock on the door interrupted and the couple jolted from their trance.

'Matthew?! Laura?! Are you guys …?' Collin was cut off as the door opened.

'Hey Collin.' Matt said as he made way for his friend.

'What's up with you Matt? Why don't you wanna attend the party? And where's Laura? She said she was coming here to drag you along with her.' Collin rambled as he sank into the couch.

'Laura is in the restroom.' Matt answered.

'You still don't want to attend the party?' Collin asked.

'I am.' Matt shrugged.

'So..? What are you waiting for? Go get dressed you idiot!' Collin nudged Matthew.

'Yeah fine fine… I was going to before you knocked on the door.' Matt made his way to his room.

'Whatever Matt, you're still going to tell me the reason why you didn't want to attend in the first place!' Collin spoke behind him.

The trio made their way to the party after half an hour was spent trying to get Matt a proper outfit. He just wasn't the fashionable type but his friends… I mean his friend and his girlfriend helped him out and now he looked like a gorgeous misfit.

He was dressed in a simple shirt and trousers made of khaki. His curly hair was neatly combed and dressed.
