Unlucky me

The stupid alarm woke me up from my deep sleep, followed by my mother's yanking. "You better get off that bed already; it's your first day at school, luv". Those words brought every bone and muscle in me back to life: "No way, how the f**k did I oversleep?".

"Mom, did you iron my uniforms?" I queried while rushing to the bathroom. It didn't take me much time to wash myself up, and I rushed down to take my breakfast before leaving. "Luv you, Mom," I said simultaneously, opening the door. "Isa" her mother called, her tone a warning. "Be a good girl," I chuckled, reassuring her with a nod.

My father died when I was 9, and since then we've been destitute. We had to relocate to Silverpalm, a town where I know no one. My mother would work her ass up just to fix us a hot plate. On the other hand, I did my part by studying hard to get this scholarship; if not, we wouldn't be able to pay for my tuition fees. I love my mother. I don't need her slouching because of me.

"Remember to keep it low," I said to myself on getting to the principal's office. "Principal's office." I read the sign on the door before knocking. "You must be Isabella," he said, wearing a fake smile on his face. "I am Mr. Edison. You're late to class already; why don't you go to your class first? I'll find you later" He said, shifting his attention to whatever it was he was doing before I walked in.

I pushed the wooden door to the class open, only to find everyone staring at me like I did something wrong. I got nervous, and at this point, all eyes were on me. "Geez, how am I going to walk to my seat?" I felt frozen to the ground. I was at the point of putting my sh*t together before I heard a voice, almost in a warning, "Can we continue with the study?" The teacher said that and continued talking without any response from the class.

I sat close to a girl with piercing eyes and blonde hair. She smiled at me, though; she seemed friendly, by the way. I clamped my hand to my desk, trying to join the ongoing teaching.

The chair next to me made a scraping noise. I knew someone was trying to come close to me. I shrugged, and out of curiosity, I realized it was the blonde-haired girl I was sitting next to. "Hello pretty. Ehhm, ok, my name is Amber, '' she said almost in a whisper.

"Hello to you too. I'm Isabella, but you can call me Isa". I replied, trying to push my guts not to exaggerate.

The teacher concluded his teaching. "Read up page 12 for the next class," he said, wrapping his books. "So, I was thinking you could join us for the party; I mean, everyone is going to be there, most likely".

"Well, I'm sorry, I don't know anywhere around here; I'm just new in town, if you must know," I replied.

It was Amber. I said those words, remembering my mother's warning. I scanned around the class to acquaint myself with the faces around me.

That was when I found him staring at me. I mean the dark-haired guy with piercing blue eyes.

He looks calm and gentle yet, his presence commanding. "Gosh… I mean he's so hot". At that moment nothing else did matter to me. I came back to my real self in a second. I mean I wouldn't have done that, like the normal me would frown at that.

I quickly turned my gaze away so as no

t to be noticed by him.
